Welcome to Facing it, we’re so glad you’re here.
On today’s episode we had the pleasure of interviewing Emily Staples.
Emily is a registered nurse who has worked in multiple major hospitals across Sydney in her career - and loves the pace and intensity of the critical care profession.
In 2019, Emily was on a skiing holiday in New Zealand where she had an accident - resulting in a femur broken in four places. A long way from home and in an unfamiliar place, Emily found herself on the other side of the critical care story.
In this episode Emily talks about the impact of significant physical trauma on her mental health, her family and friends and her sense of identity. She shares incredibly raw insights into her recovery process, teaching us so much about the inner dialogue of a person recovering from physical trauma - and how we can better understand the toll it takes on a person’s emotional and mental wellbeing.
In this episode we discuss suicidal thoughts, anxiety and depression. If you or someone you know needs assistance or further advice please contact Lifeline on 13 11 14.
