The gestalt principles look at human perception and are based on the human tendency to intuit patterns when processing information, including visual information.
One of the core tenets of the principle, which translated from German means ‘unified whole’, is that people tend to group similar elements, recognise patterns, and simplify complex images.
So, what does this have to do with dashboard design? In short, everything, given that the gestalt principles define how humans perceive the world. Design, in this case, is just another complex set of visual information that people have to make sense of.
When it comes to dashboards specifically, the gestalt principles or gestaltism can help in a myriad of ways. To find out exactly how though, we’ll go through some of the principles in this podcast and outline how you can apply them when building your dashboards.

In this episode, we explain the KPIs you should be tracking to get the most out of your social media marketing strategy,
Social media is now recognised as an entire business function, rather than just a marketing tool, so naturally managing and reporting on it is an incredibly time-consuming task.
It’s probably very obvious, but when done effectively, the hard work is rewarded. In fact, 78% of consumers are willing to buy from a company after having a positive experience with them on social media, so it certainly pays off to do it well.
With that being said, how do you know how well your social channels are actually performing? There is a lot of data available, but we're spotlighting the 11 KPIs that we believe are most useful in tracking the effectiveness of your social media channels.
We also have informative guides, videos, blogs, and infographics available at www.hurree.co.
In this episode, we explain the definition of a vanity metric and give you top tips on how to identify them, along with examples of common ones to avoid.
Many of the analytics tools available to marketers will have dashboards with various graphs, metrics and reports, but just because it’s on the dashboard doesn’t necessarily mean it will be the data you need. While it’s still useful to know how many people read your blog, liked your Facebook post or opened your email, do these metrics actually tell you enough about your campaign’s performance, or are they simply vanity metrics?
Vanity metrics are the KPIs or metrics that look good at a glance, but they don't provide much of an impact on any of your future marketing decisions, or shape your strategy. It’s important to be able to identify vanity metrics so that you don’t waste time tracking values that are meaningless.
When deciding what metrics to measure, ask yourself the following questions:
Listen to this episode of the Marketing Slice to dive deeper into vanity metrics and learn which ones are best to avoid and why.
In this episode, we will go over the biggest KPI mistakes we’ve seen and how you can avoid them.
KPIs are crucial to your overall business success. They help keep you on track, make decisions, and achieve your overall business goals. So, it can be really disheartening when you take the time to create and track your KPIs but aren’t seeing the results. Even worse is when you aren’t sure what’s going wrong.
It's easy to get bogged down in vanity metrics or leave your KPIs unattended. To make the most of your KPIs, it's important to ensure you're following KPI best practice, including:
Listen to this episode of The Marketing Slice to find out how you can avoid these mistakes and make your KPI programme a smashing success.

In this podcast, we explore the best KPIs that customer success teams should be tracking to maximise their success.
The overall success of your company is inherently linked to the success of your customer. Customer success recognises that a satisfied and thriving customer is an essential component when growing your business. It’s a proactive process of anticipating and recognising customer challenges and needs, and provides solutions and answers before a problem even arises.
When carried out effectively, customer success can improve customer retention, satisfaction and brand loyalty, therefore reducing churn, ultimately driving revenue for the business.
Tracking customer success is crucial as it allows you to:
With most businesses having a dedicated customer success team gathering customer data from various tools and platforms, it can be difficult determining which data is of most benefit to measure. Within this episode, we cover some of the most relevant KPIs for customer success teams. These include:

In this podcast, we explore the nature of working in a marketing agency and why setting, tracking and measuring KPIs is so vital.
With over 90% of agencies relying on word of mouth referrals to drive new business, it's critical that they impress their existing customers. One way to do that is by being able to quickly show the performance of campaigns, highlight the value of your services and show that the client is getting a good return on their investment. Using an automated marketing analytics dashboard will help massively in doing this.
Marketing dashboards can provide a unified experience for clients to view and understand campaign performance, without which hours may be wasted manually collecting and combining data to retrieve the same insight.
Before starting any type of marketing campaign however, you need to know how you’re going to define success. What is important to one client may not be to another, so it’s crucial you have a clear understanding of the goals of each of your clients.
Within this podcast, we cover some KPIs that marketing agencies should be tracking. These include:
1. Website traffic to lead ratio
2. Customer lifetime value
3. Marketing qualified leads (MQL)
4. MQL to SQL conversion ratio
5. Customer churn
6. Social media conversion rates
7. Return on investmentListen to this episode of The Marketing Slice to dive a little deeper into each of these KPIs.

In this podcast, we explain the definition of a key performance indicator (KPI) and why it is important in business.
When working towards a goal, it can often be difficult to see what progress has been made and how far away the overall target is. That’s where KPIs come into the picture. A KPI is a quantifiable measurement used to assess the progress and performance of a given target within a company.
At its highest level, an organisation can have KPIs that assess the entire company performance, or on a lower level, there can be more specific KPIs that examine the effectiveness and success of specific teams, departments or individuals.
Within this podcast, we cover the benefits of setting KPIs and why they are important. These include:
1. Keeping staff engaged and on track
2. Monitoring progress and overall company healthy
3. Allowing you to make decisions
4. Detecting patterns over timeListen to this episode of The Marketing Slice to dive a little deeper into each of these benefits, the 11 different types of KPI and how they can help your business.

Even before COVID-19, the SaaS industry was growing and is still showing no signs of slowing down.

It is more important than ever for businesses to manage and measure their performance. Spotting areas where further resources and attention is needed will help SaaS companies get ahead of their competition and likewise, measuring performance to see what strategies are working well is crucial. That's where KPIs come in.
The 7 KPIs every SaaS company should be tracking include:
1. Customer churn rate
2. Revenue churn
3. Monthly recurring revenue

I’m Dominique Daly and in this podcast, we will be talking about How to Build the Perfect Customer Onboarding Campaign.
What is Onboarding?
Onboarding is the process of welcoming a new customer to your brand by teaching them how to use the product they have purchased. Onboarding is a cross-departmental effort requiring sales, marketing, and customer service teams to provide guidance and support.
Think of onboarding as an instruction manual, without which your customer will have no idea how to operate your product. Sure, they may have a good crack at it - opening the box, setting it up, etc., but they won’t get very far, and in the end, they will blame your brand or your product for their lack of success. They might even ask for their money back and tell their friends to avoid your brand.

In this episode of The Marketing Slice, we discuss how to build the perfect shopping cart abandonment campaign.
Online shopping has been growing year-on-year for the past decade. We now spend more time online than ever before. Electronic devices are such a normalised, almost essential, part of our lives now that many of us are actually more comfortable shopping digitally.
Whilst it’s been proven that online shopping continues to grow, not all shoppers complete their purchases. Some buyers add numerous items to their digital bags and then simply leave, without so much as a goodbye. That’s the phenomenon that we call shopping cart abandonment.
What is shopping cart abandonment?
Shopping cart abandonment is when a website visitor, i.e. a potential customer, adds items to their shopping cart, begins the check-out process and leaves without actually making a purchase. Cart abandonment is one of the key issues fought by digital e-commerce marketers today and is one of the biggest contributors to lost sales in the e-commerce industry.
In this podcast, we discuss 5 of the main reasons why shoppers abandon their carts, teach you 7 ways to combat shopping cart abandonment and offer 3 things you need to action right now to improve customer experience.

In this episode, we discuss what it means to have a marketing strategy that is truly omnichannel, as well as suggest our 7 best practices for getting started.
Providing that omnichannel experience is something that most marketers are striving towards in 2021. And with so many different marketing channels out there, the majority of brands are already utilising multiple channels to communicate with their customers and prospects.
However, simply making use of multiple channels does not automatically equate to an omnichannel experience.
An omnichannel marketing strategy is so much more than that. It's about providing your customers with a completely seamless experience from the very first touchpoint to the last. This means that, regardless of the channel your customer is using, each interaction should feel like a continuation of the previous one, with every channel working together to create a unified and consistent brand message.

I’m Dominique Daly and in this podcast, we will be discussing the differences between a Data Warehouse and a Data lake. You can read this episode in full, along with helpful graphics and other great resources over on our website.
What is a data warehouse?
Data warehouses typically store data from various sources, integrating the source data to provide a unified view. These sources can include transactional systems, application log files, relational databases and more. The data in question is most often historical data required for periodical queries; this historical record is referred to as a business's ‘single source of truth’.
What is a data lake?A data lake is a repository that allows for the storage of vast amounts of raw data, that is, data that has not been prepared, processed or manipulated to fit a particular schema. Data lakes are typically housed within a Hadoop technology environment; Hadoop is an open-source software framework that facilitates massive data storage capabilities.
In the episode, we cover 8 key areas where data lakes and data warehouses differ and discuss the benefits of each for your company.
We also have associated guides, videos, blogs, and infographics that can all be found at www.hurree.co*.
So here we go…*

This podcast answers the questions:
Practising business intelligence without a data warehouse can have its downfalls. As you will find out when listening to this podcast - data warehouses organise and standardise data making it easier for BI software to analyse and therefore more effective for organisations to utilise.
Data warehousing and BI tools eliminate individual perspectives which, in turn, enhances lead generation, streamlines productivity and empowers businesses to make decisions that are strategically relevant - providing an overall healthier organisation.

In this podcast, we will be explaining exactly what it means to be a B2B SaaS marketer, along with our top tips for success.
Marketing your B2B SaaS product is a whole different ball game to any B2C marketing campaign. This isn't just your brand trying to communicate with and influence one person to purchase your product.
With B2B SaaS marketing you have got to firstly get in front of the executives, administrators or coordinators, and give them the desire for your software. Then, you need to make your way up the command chain as it's unlikely that the exec-level employees have the purchasing power, so you are relying on these consumers to advocate for your product and help sell the solution.
Carrying this off successfully requires a different approach to the norm.
In the podcast, we detail 8 B2B SaaS marketing insights & tips for success, so get listening now to discover how you can get on the radar of your prospective customers.

There are also plenty of statistics from marketing gurus and industry experts to help you along the way.
Let’s face it, common business and marketing practices are constantly evolving. The traditional ‘hard sell’ and ‘pushy promotions’ just don’t cut it these days. People need more.

That makes sense, right? But what is customer experience? What is user experience? What is human experience? And why are these three acronyms so integral to successful business and marketing strategies?
This podcast will enable you to fully utilise your potential and realise that the world is changing and it’s important for you to change with it.

Finding the right data warehousing solution to fit business needs can make a huge difference to the decision-making process and improve how effectively a company serves its customers and grows its operations.

Creating an effective marketing strategy entails more than just writing out some bullet points about what you think you might produce or aim to achieve over the next couple of weeks, months or a year. In order to market successfully, you need to have a number of solid components to focus on.
A marketing strategy is a methodically designed plan created to outline and guide marketing activities with the aim of achieving specific outcomes. It’s the foundation upon which marketing decisions are made. The ultimate function of a marketing strategy is to focus your marketing objectives and campaigns and keep these efforts aligned with the wider company goals.
It’s all well and good having an overall understanding of what a marketing strategy is, but knowing and implementing the fundamental components that make up a great strategy will keep you at the top of your game.
**What Are The 5 Major Components of a Marketing Strategy?
Things that we all strive to achieve like enhanced customer loyalty, increased sales and ROI, a strengthened brand and the ability to triumph over market competitors become far more obtainable with a structured strategy in place. So implement these five critical components that I’ve outlined above, regularly revisit them and allow your marketing to thrive.
In this episode of the Marketing Slice by Hurree, Content Marketing Executive Dominique will be discussing push notifications and how to keep your customers happy and engaged when using this tactic.
What is a Push Notification?A push notification is a message sent by app marketers to deliver offers or call-to-actions (CTAs) to users who have opted-in to the service. This can happen in-app or while using a device. Finding their home on the lock screen, push notifications prompt users to take action with the goal of building user-brand-relationships whilst increasing engagement.
Push notifications can be the key to skyrocketing your app engagement by a whopping 88%.
But Localytics report that 52% of app users find push notifications to be an annoying distraction.
From sending too many messages to sending irrelevant messages, it’s easy to become a push notification pest. So, to help you avoid this fate, we've outlined 5 ways you can ditch pestering your audience and instead delight them with every notification.

"An image is the set of beliefs, ideas, and impressions that a person holds regarding an object." - Phillip Kotler
Having a strong brand image is a crucial element of any business and a great way of differentiating yourself from a crowded market.
A brand image can be formed without the need for a person to purchase a product or service as it could be based on something they heard online or from a friend or family member. Essentially, brand image is someone's perception, so not something you can have full control over.
However, what you do have, is the power of influence.
There are many elements that you do have control over, that can help shape how others perceive your brand.

In today’s podcast, we’re discussing How to Maximise Millennial Marketing with Demographic Segmentation. We also have associated guides, videos, blogs, and infographics that can all be found at www.hurree.co. What are HENRYs?
In demographic segmentation, the acronym HENRY means High Earning, Not Rich Yet. According to The Wise Marketer, a HENRY is “under 55 years old with an annual income between $100K and $250K, but that has not amassed investable assets of $1M”. Between 2012 and 2017, this segment of the population grew by 26%, meaning that roughly 36 million households fall into this category.
Given that 27% of HENRYs are millennials, this affluent subgroup is a highly powerful market to delve into. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce estimates that millennial HENRYs have a purchasing power of approximately $200 million directly, and $500 million indirectly through parental-spending influence.

In this podcast, we’re going to be asking the question: What is Social Media Marketing & what are the benefits for your business?
What we will cover:
So, what is social media marketing?
Well, Social media is a term used to describe websites and applications that facilitate the creation and sharing of content by users.
Social media marketing came about when the owners of these sites realised there was money to be made from advertising on their platforms.

To succeed at social media marketing, brands must create authentic content tailored to their audience’s needs and interests, track the engagement rates of that content using analytics, and use this data to improve continuously.

Data integration can be a confusing topic, particularly if you’re not a Data Solutions Architect or someone who has practised or studied the art of data integration.
So if you’re a marketer (like me), a business person, or just someone who wants to get an overview of the topic, then you’ve come to the right place. In this podcast, I aim to explain data integration in marketing in a way that is clear, understandable and non-technical (as much as is possible!).
Data integration, put simply, is the process of consolidating data from various sources into a single data set - offering a unified view of the data and efficiently managing it, making it accessible for those who wish to utilise it.
Typically, data integration will include a network of data sources, a master server that pulls data from these sources, and then a business, for example, accessing the now unified data on a master server for a particular purpose or function.
But what does it mean for marketers?
We live in a predominantly customer-centric world, so gaining a comprehensive view of your audience is essential for effective targeting.
This podcast covers data integration in markeing, data silos, and 3 key benefits of usilising data integration for marketers.

Food retail is an incredibly competitive market. You know the drill; you wander into a supermarket and are instantly bombarded with a huge array of brands, offerings and in-your-face promotions.
That's because consumers today require choice; perfectly personalised products that cater to their different and varied needs.
People are unique; their wants, needs, preferences, lifestyle choices and living situations all vary greatly and therefore require products that suit each specification.
For brands and food retailers, that's where market segmentation comes in.
Market segmentation has always been apparent in the trade and commerce industries, but as markets have expanded and demand has increased, companies, products and services have grown en masse to a point where nearly every market is saturated.
To combat this and remain visible in a rapidly growing environment, brands both big and small must consciously implement market segmentation in their strategies in order to survive and, hopefully, thrive.
This podcast discusses market segmentation in the food industry, delves into what segmentation is, how and why it’s used in the food retail industry and explores 8 common factors that affect consumer behaviour within this industry:
Additionally, this podcast will teach you 5 necessary points that food retailers need to utilise in order to create a streamlined omnichannel experience and how to action them:

Cleaning up your CRM data can seem like a daunting task, especially if it’s been a little while since you’ve entered that realm. But regularly analysing your data and managing your contacts is super important in order for you to operate efficiently and retain the leads that offer you value.
So don’t look back now -- the fact that you’re reading this means you’re ready to put on those rubber gloves and begin scrubbing. And you can give yourself a pat on the back for coming to the right place to get started.
We’re going to keep things simple. There are 3 primary elements that you need to focus on and 3 key steps that you need to take in order to keep your CRM up to date and fully-functioning.
Having an unorganised or outdated CRM can disadvantage your business in so many ways - it increases your risk of failing to contact your target audience or an important lead correctly (or at all), it can damage your brand reputation, you can lose loyal customers if your CX is poor, it can waste your budget by holding onto and, therefore, paying for contacts who are clearly uninterested, and can be a huge waste of your employees’ time.
The good news is that these mistakes are easily avoidable. You can offer great customer experiences if you’re contacting the right people, in the right way, at the right time, in the right place, and for the right reasons.
By keeping your CRM clean and up-to-date, your team will run more efficiently and you will be able to carefully nurture the leads that really matter.

In this episode of The Marketing Slice podcast, Dominique will be discussing how you can get started with remarketing ads. We will look at what remarketing is, its relationship with retargeting and how you can use two of the most popular platforms to see results.
What is Remarketing?
Remarketing is a promotional technique that aims to re-engage users who have shown an interest in your products or services.
With remarketing you can serve highly personalised content to users through external channels, driving them back to your platform and toward the point of conversion.
We like to think of remarketing as a form of market segmentation; segment your traffic into lists of users who have taken specific actions, such as cart-abandonment, then, you can focus on re-engaging them by offering the right content, in the right place, and at the right time.
Is remarketing the same as retargeting?
These terms are often used interchangeably, and there’s a reason for that. Remarketing and retargeting are fundamentally the same thing. Remarketing is the umbrella term for a practice that includes several key tactics; retargeting refers to one of the tactics within the remarketing umbrella, specifically, paid digital ads.
Take a look at the handy diagram in our blog to visualise this concept fully.

Finding the ideal target audience is the key to optimising your conversions, making the most of your marketing strategy and your budget.
What is a Target Audience?
The definition of a target audience is a group of consumers or organisations who are most likely to purchase your products or services.
It’s important to note that the term ‘target audience’ is often used interchangeably with another term, ‘target market’. There are, however, subtle differences between the two.
The target market for a product is the people most likely to use the product, whereas the target audience for a product is the people most likely to purchase that product.
The most common data points that are used to define the target audience of a company are:
Why identify a target audience?
The more you find out about your target audience, the stronger connection you can build with consumers.
Market segmentation allows you to tailor your messaging to each audience segment, personalising your customer’s experience even more.
Targeting your spending towards hyper-specific areas of the market increases your chances of conversion by efficiently spending your money where it matters most.

In order to be a successful brand, you need to regularly evaluate your actions and processes to ensure that you are functioning as efficiently as possible. One of the most effective ways to achieve this is by analyzing a company, goal, or objective using the SWOT analysis method.
If you don’t know what a SWOT analysis is, or perhaps you would like a little refresher, you’ve come to the right place.
SWOT stands for strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
A SWOT analysis is a useful tool for your marketing strategy, particularly when it comes to evaluating a new project, an objective, or to analyze the business as a whole. It acts as a roadmap that details areas in which you excel, where you can improve, your potential opportunities, and any challenges you can (or may need to) tackle.
This podcast exemplifies each aspect of the SWOT method and offers 4 top tips for creating a successful SWOT analysis!

Marketing and user-centred design are both driven by research, informed by human behaviour, and validated by results. While the focus is different, there’s a lot of common ground between the two disciplines.
There’s overlap between what marketing and UX set out to achieve and some of the activities they each perform. Both are concerned with drawing honest feedback from customers and prospects. They both use that feedback to optimise touchpoints and interfaces between the person and the business. The major difference is that marketing mostly focuses on getting attention from the customer while UX mainly focuses on giving attention to them.
Ultimately, they are both working towards the same goal, which is to turn prospects into happy customers by understanding what they value and delivering solutions to them.
In this podcast, you will learn how the experiences that customers have with marketing touchpoints define how they perceive a brand, and therefore how having a user-centered design can complement and optimise your marketing strategy.

In this episode of the Marketing Slice podcast, we’re going to answer the question: What is Marketing Mix Modeling? And we will discover 3 benefits and limitations of this tactic.
Marketing Mix Modeling (MMM) is closely related to the marketing theory concept of the 4Ps: Product, Place, Price, and Promotion. The 4Ps consider what factors are needed for a business to succeed, whereas MMM seeks to determine how much success was generated by each factor and forecast what future success could be achieved if changes were made to the marketing mix.
Marketing mix modeling is a statistical method of determining the effectiveness of marketing campaigns by breaking down aggregate data and differentiating between contributions from marketing tactics and promotional activities, and other uncontrollable drivers of success.
The results, or ‘output’, of your marketing mix model analysis, will then inform the composition of future marketing efforts with a level of certainty, i.e. to change input ‘a’ will affect output ‘b.’
We will discuss the benefits and the limitations of MMM in this episode, as well as giving you the information you need to pitch a marketing mix project to your organization. MMM is a very complex process, so it’s likely that you will require a specialist vendor to get the most out of your data. For this reason, we have covered some essential questions you should ask any MMM vendor before you finalize a deal.

When it comes to app marketing, there's one tactic that beats out the rest to gain the top spot, and that's push notifications. These small but mighty messages have the ability to grow your apps active user base by 10% and increase your revenue by 15%! If you use them correctly, that is!
What are push notifications?
Push notifications are visually similar to SMS messages; they appear on a user's lock screen when they are not currently using the app. In order to send push notifications, you will need users to first download your app and then give their permission to receive these messages. This process varies depending on the OS service you use; the
two most common OS systems are iOS (owned by Apple) and Android (owned by Google).
iOS has a success rate of 43.9%. In contrast, Android has a 91.1% opt-in rate.
The art of writing perfectly crafted push notification is not something that comes easy to everyone. The nature of push notifications means that the writer has very little words to work with to inspire action from their reader. Skilled copywriting is required to ensure each push packs a persuasive punch.
But what is copywriting?Generally speaking, copy is the written text created for promotional materials. This text can come in many forms; advertising, magazines, websites, podcasts,
and, of course, push notifications. All of which require a relatively high-level of copywriting.
In this podcast, we will cover copywriting techniques that will help you to improve the persuasive ability of your push notifications.
Technique #1: The Power of One
Always pick one thing to highlight in your messaging. Be it one story, one deal, one theme, one emotion; the Power of One focuses your copywriting to ensure you don't waste vital words.
Technique #2: Show, Don't Tell
Use descriptive language to show an event rather than simply telling the reader what happened.

Behavioral segmentation, in the digital world, means segmenting users based on their online actions, i.e. behavior on a website or app. This normally includes things like the amount of time they spend on your website, whether they’re new or returning users, how frequently they interact with your brand, which items are looked at or added to their basket or playlist, and this list goes on.
Behavioral segmentation does what it says on the tin, and it's an essential tool for marketers in all fields.

Geographic segmentation is undoubtedly one of the most effective forms of market segmentation for any brand looking to go global.

Much like with demographic segmentation, alone it can seem quite clinical; objective with no insight into the personalities of consumers, but when paired with the likes of behavioral or psychographic segmentation, the possibilities are endless.

Marketing has changed a lot over the last 50 years, so it makes sense that the marketing mix, which we use to steer our efforts, has changed too, right?
In the 1960s, Jermone McCarthyestablished his revolutionary model The 4Ps; these are:
However, in recent times, critics of the model have pointed to it becoming outdated. Theorists such as Brian Fetherstonhaugh, nowcall for a total overhaul of the marketing mix to replace the 4Ps with the 4Es.
But what are the 4Es?
In the 4 E's model:
This model is founded on the principle that the customers have seized control of the market place. We now operate within a customer-centric, experience economy.
Audiences are more diverse and demanding now than ever before. And our job, as marketers, has shifted its focus away from selling products and toward creating sublime, end-to-end customer experiences.
How Can You Implement the 4Es of Experiential Marketing?Samee & Larimo put forward a model for creating emotional and memorable experiences for consumer audiences, believing that these 4 steps are the cornerstone of experiential marketing:
1) Offering or stimulus
2) Interaction between the customer and company
3) Experience and value co-creation
