In yet another surprising turn of events, Colombia's leftist presidential candidate, Gustavo Petro, managed to win the presidential run-off election after all. Following the first round, he seemed to face an uphill battle when the combined votes for the right outstripped his result by 13 points. In the end, coming from behind, he managed to overtake the right-wing, to usher in what Colombia analyst Gimena Sanchez calls "a complete paradigm shift" for Colombia.
