My guest today is Laurel Ulrich, (I corrected her first name. In the previous note, it was Laura) a retired professor from Harvard University. Despite societal expectations that women should focus solely on homemaking, Laura pursued her education and received a Ph.D. while raising five children. She has authored several books, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning A Midwife’s Tale, and is known for her catchphrase “well-behaved women seldom make history.” In her latest book, A House Full of Females, Laura explores the surprising connection between plural marriage and women’s suffrage in 1870. She is truly a delightful person, and I am sure you will agree after listening to this episode.

In this episode, I talk to Alan Russel, an entrepreneur and the Stake President of the Ogden YSA 2nd Stake. Alan is a successful businessman, but it becomes clear that his family and the gospel are where he focuses his time. I met him when I spoke for a stake devotional, and the spirit strongly impressed me to have him as a guest on the podcast. The spirit did not disappoint. I am sure you will feel the same way as Alan talks of his family, the events in his life, the gospel, and studying the scriptures.

Mark Arrington shares us with his experience as a police officer and as a member of the church trying to keep his marriage intact helps us more fully understand the challenges those in law enforcement face and why the divorce rate for those in law enforcement is so high. His experience on the other side of the law as a defense attorney helped me to understand better the role of a defense attorney and the attitude of those he defends. Blend all of this with his membership in the church, the importance of the scriptures in his life, and his deep testimony of the gospel. We end up with one fascinating story.
