On this week’s Sustainability Now!, your host, Justin Mog, brings you a preview of the Kentucky Conservation Committee’s (KCC) annual Legislative Summit which kicks off this Friday 1/15/21. KCC Director, Lane Boldman joins us in studio along with Misty Boos, Executive Director of Wild Virginia (http://wildvirginia.org) to talk about their recent success passing a Wildlife Corridor Action Plan bill through the Virginia legislature in 2020. Misty will be a featured speaker during the second session of KCC's 2021 Legislative Summit, which will be free and virtual this year, and held over three consecutive Fridays, January 15th, 22nd and 29th from 11am-12:30pm. These informative sessions will include a broad look at anticipated topics during the 2021 General Assembly, an overview of timely conservation issues, basic training on citizen lobbying, how to navigate the session during the pandemic, and an overview of environmental legislation filed to date. The schedule is as follows: Session 1: (Jan. 15th) General Assembly Overview, Citizen Lobbying, Civic Engagement Skills Presenters: KCC’s President Dr. Benjamin Knoll, KCC’s legislative team, (Lane Boldman, Randy Strobo) plus allies from Ky. Resources Council (Tom FitzGerald), and state lawmakers. Session 2: (Jan. 22nd) Land Conservation and Biodiversity issues Presenters: This session will include representatives on initiatives to support wildland corridors, plus allies who successfully passed a wildland infrastructure legislation in Virginia. This session will also include representatives from Kentucky land conservation groups and state lawmakers. Anticipated guests include Senator Robin Webb, Senator Jimmy Higdon, Greg Abernathy of the Kentucky Natural Lands Trust, Susan Holmes from The Wildlands Network, and Misty Boos from Wild Virginia. Session 3: (Jan. 29th) Clean Energy and Climate Change Issues Presenters: This session will include representatives from solar development companies, farmland preservation groups, and state lawmakers.
