Did you know one of your most important roles as an IP is to connect the dots for everyone? It's true. You are the expert with the knowledge about the infection data. It's important that you use this knowledge to connect the dots for leaders and frontline workers. I know what your are thinking. How do I do this? Well, it's actually as easy as pointing out how the infection is related to behaviors and how it impacts patient/residents. Here are some key points to get you thinking:

• If you have an increase in C.diff infections. Was your hand hygiene compliance low too? If so, connect those dots!
• Did you have an increase in CAUTI? Was Foley catheter care documented on those patients? If not, connect those dots!
• Did you have a new case of COVID-19? Was that person vaccinated? If not, connect those dots!
• Did you have a needle stick? If so, was that person using a safety needle or device? If not, connect those dots!
