Since he first learned about holograms in high school, Geoffrey Hinton has been fascinated by how human brains think and store memories. This fascination led him to the study of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. Since the 1970s, Hinton has been researching how machines can be programmed to learn and analyze information in the same associative, pattern-based ways that human brains do. Brooke speaks with Hinton about his pioneering work in neural networks, what it was like working for years on a technology that many in his field didn’t think would work, and how language is an imperfect tool.
