In our experience, the best programming unapologetically and consistently follows the original CrossFit prescription - functional movements done consistently well at high intensity four to five times per week in combinations of couplets and triplets across a variety of time and modal domains. The simplicity and elegance of this prescription is both the reason for its success and the thing that makes it so hard to implement well.

Keeping things simple doesn’t always mean it’s easy. We can all fall victim to the need for doing things we THINK are better than what we are currently doing. We want to see the results but sometimes, even more important, we need to believe that we are doing something that will get us the results. The stories we tell ourselves can both serve us and blind us in the pursuit of observable, measurable, and repeatable results.

These are the stories that when they serve us keep us consistent and engaged. But when they blind us, we get distracted and start chasing the fancy new program, or the hottest new idea. We keep looking for that next personal record forgetting that it’s the simple elegance of the original prescription that got us and will keep us in the game.

So how do we find the balance? How do we keep things simple, elegant, AND fun and exciting. That’s the story we dig into this week. Enjoy and leave us your thoughts.
