It’s been a rough few months for the Ghostbusters franchise. While there are some fans of the Ghostbusters: Afterlife film from 2021, Ghostbusters Frozen Empire was received with far more suspicion. Scores were down from fans across the board (IMDB dropped from a 7/10 to 6.1/10, Letterboxd dropped from a 3/5 to a 2.6/5). It’s been a bad run for Venkman and the company, but HHN looks to reverse the course with their audience.

After Ghostbusters lit the world on fire with its house at HHN 29, it was only a matter of time until it returned. Ghostbusters Frozen Empire does have one huge advantage – we get to return to New York. The CGI of the movie is not going to be as jarring in a Ghostbusters Frozen Empire house, either. If anything, I trust the Halloween Horror Nights to turn these visual effects into practical spectacle. It’ll be curious to see how they integrate in the creatures of Ghostbusters Frozen Empire into the house. They are frightening in premise and were poorly executed on film.

Characters and Scenes We Want to SeeGhostbusters Frozen Empire House DescriptionAn ancient artifact has released a chilling new entity, Garraka. He’ll stop you cold. Only the Ghostbusters can keep you from getting iced.

Characters

The Ghostbusters – Obviously, we will get new and old teams with little Easter eggs throughout Ghostbusters Frozen Empire. Expect an Egon Spengler suit in a room or two, but his grandkids are already in the Universal Mega Movie Parade. They’ll likely drive most of the action, especially since it’s primarily their movie.

Nadeem – It would be very odd if they didn’t have Kumail Nanjani’s character in the house. While it’s mostly a comedic role, we still expect him to drive the plot towards the end of Ghostbusters Frozen Empire.

Slimer – We saw Slimer puppets last time, and he returned to Ghostbusters Frozen Empire after sitting out Afterlife. He’ll be back, hopefully, a couple of times at worst. Fingers crossed that the blacklight puppet also returns. It’s an awesome visual effect.

Ghosts – Obviously? Expect some Easter eggs to the past films. A certain New York Library spirit seems inevitable.

Stay Puft Marshmellow Man – It’ll be curious to see if they bring this character back again. The mini-Marshmellow Men should make plenty of appearances (likely on video and in statues), but we want the big boy to shine again.

The Sewer Dragon – After a very chilly opening set piece, we’re taken to the heat of summer. Here, a ghost dragon flies overhead. The HHN decor team may be involved (likely via screens), but time will tell.

Garraka – Another god who wants to rule New York City. What else is new? Garraka brings an undead army with him, and he’s a very well-designed big bad. He’s already all over the marketing and merch, so he’s definitely in the house.

Scenes

A Frozen 1940s Adventurer Club —I’m mostly just hoping that the art team got the budget to bring this sequence to life. It’s easily one of the best shots of the movie, and frozen characters would be a great way to introduce our villains.

Ray’s Occult Bookshop —There’s already a food location based on the shop. However, with images of the Hollywood facade openly available, it seems clear this will also be the entrance to Ghostbusters Frozen Empire house. It’s a good way to pump in some Ackroyd audio and let the actors do their thing.

The Firehouse – It’s the iconic set, HHN set decoration teams have done it before, and it’s the finale of Ghostbusters Frozen Empire. Expected an icy spectacle that should feature some spectacular design work.
