Regular conversations coming out of what we're learning about following Jesus together at Compass Point Bible Church. We talk about what we're heard on Sunday and unpack what that means for us between Sundays.
Why should we give our money away, how much of it, and to who or what? When it comes to money, we often want clear answers and lines. As we've been exploring in our sermon series, we're invited to give freely and sacrificially to loosen money's control over us. Dave and Paul chat about tithing, why we give to the church, and practical next steps for all of us as we manage money - no matter how much or little we have to steward.
When we look up, what's the vision of the future we see for us at Compass Point? We long to see our lives, homes, and communities increasingly changed to reflect the way of Jesus - people who make a commitment instead of only a decision, know Jesus rather just knowing about him, and are growing in influence rather than creating an impact. Paul and Dave dig into these statements and talk about why humility and pursuing the right things are key to our vision.
What does heaven have to do with caring for creation or working our 9-5 jobs here and now? Paul & Dave talk about how we can live in the tension between embracing the goodness of things we enjoy and do (like hockey and dog grooming) and having Jesus at the centre of everything in our lives. Will everyone be in heaven, and if not, how does that work with God's loving character? How do heaven and hell relate to God's presence, and what about those who never hear about Jesus? Paul and Dave ask some more great questions about universalism, suffering, justice, and how to read the Bible well as we continue our series on the promise of heaven.
How do we put together the Biblical language of paradise and the new heavens and the new earth in our understanding of "heaven"? Why is it important that there's a tree in the centre of the city in the book of Revelation, and what does Easter change about how we come into contact with the presence or God?
