In Jesus’ day, there were other leaders that had risen up and had tried to lead revolts against the Roman authorities. But, in the end, the leader died and the effort came to nothing. Could the disciples of Jesus have been worried that the church would come to nothing? After all, Jesus died! In today’s message, Pastor Mark reminds us – as Jesus reminded them – of His promise that “the gates of Hell would not prevail against” the church! They need not be concerned – and we need not be concerned because we have Jesus’ promise that He is protecting His church!
