You may have heard the saying, “You can't love someone else until you learn to love yourself.” Is it sound advice? Conventional wisdom would tell you that as you grow and mature as an individual, you become more successful in relationships. But the truth is, the more you grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus, loving and serving Him first...THAT is when you truly understand what it means to love someone else. Serving yourself does not lead to a heart for serving others. But, if both partners in a relationship are moving towards God, they move towards each other, too. Only devotion to the Lord provides a strong framework for marriage.
