I get it, job skills and experience are important, but are they the most important thing that your applicant brings to the table? I could argue that there are some jobs that the skill brought to the table outweigh some other elements..however...are we leaning too much into skills over looking at applicants that are passionate, behaviorally, belief, value aligned with some or little skills - we don't want to skill them up or put in the time to skill them up.
Why are so many looking for new jobs vs careers - they are misaligned in their current roles or workplace environment and looking for more or looking to be seen valued and heard but aren't given the chance to learn a skill on the job. There are thousands of good people out there looking - why can't we find them to fill our open jobs? Maybe, just maybe we need to hire them and skill them up once we find they are aligned to our values, culture and behaviors first - train on the job second.
Are we the problem - causing too many barriers to entry - saying no from a resume - or is it them?
Hummmm - just asking - go deeper and see all the hurdles you are creating from a skill set before you even decide to interview someone.
