In this episode of Sick & Tired Recovery, I shared in a Zoom meeting — my truth from the heart.

I talk about what it was like growing up, and how there was once a time I was completely alright with being me. But somewhere along the way, being myself started to feel different. That’s when I picked up the drink — trying to fit in, trying to belong.

What I didn’t realize then is that every sip pulled me further away from who I really was.

If you’ve ever lost yourself trying to be accepted, this one’s for you. 💛

Life is a series of decisions and consequences.

It's okay to act despite the consequences if you are willing to pay the price.

Sometimes that price can lead you to desperation.

Only through desperation do some people seek a Power greater than themselves.

And that's a blessing.

If you want peace of mind, it's a good idea to focus on yourself.

Focusing on what others are doing is a setup.

Our mind gives us a destructive pattern to live in.

We must break that pattern if we want to live joyous and free.

Keeping our side of the street clean does just that.

It reminds us we only have power over ourselves.

When we get to recovery, our thinking is still insane.

We face a tough decision once the drugs are gone.

Addicts have to deal with what took them to the drugs.

Changing our lifestyle maybe even as hard as it was to quit using.

We learn not to act on negative feelings to recover.

God wants the best for you.

He's not going to deliver it to you.

You have to be willing to put in the work to get it.

If you want something different you have to be willing to do something differently.

If nothing changes then nothing changes.

When it comes to the battle between intending and action, action wins all the time.

The best way to get a good understanding of ourselves is by becoming aware of our inner child.

When we aren't aware of our inner child, we look for others to heal us or complete us.

The 12 steps take us back to our childhood experiences which had an impact on our development and beliefs.

This process starts our inner healing.

Sadly, without knowing ourselves on this level, many never outgrow the self-centeredness of a child.

In relationships, seek to understand rather than strive to be understood.

A mistake people often make in relationships is looking for similarities.

When they don't live up to our expectations, this causes us to blame others for our unhappiness.

Loving ourselves and appreciating our differences is the antidote to our self-centered fears.

Many recovering addicts think they have a drug problem when they first get to recovery.

After they are introduced to the 12 steps they find out it's much bigger than that.

However, only by living the 12 steps can we find out what took us to the drugs.

Pain and misery are realities.

Most addicts are unwilling to accept reality so they do their best to change what is unacceptable.

They use drugs because they don't want to feel.

Subconsciously they seek help thinking they want to stop using not knowing they just want the pain to stop.

All addicts must ask themselves do they really want to stop using drugs and answer it honestly.

Life gets better when we lean with the flow of it.

We have to use our intuition rather than our fixed ideas if it's going to make any sense.

Life doesn't care about what we think or feel.

Therefore,  we change our pattern of resisting life by learning and accepting who we are. We can't accept it until we accept ourselves.

The flesh is trying to teach us how to gain the world and lose our soul. The Spirit enlightens us we can't lose our souls. The Holy Spirit is perfectly aware that we don't recognize our true selves. That's why God put His Spirit in us to steer us to all truth and teach us our worth.

Restoring trust takes time.
Our words played an important role in addiction. They helped us stay in our self-made prison.  We must proceed to do the next best thing until our words again have value. People who we have hurt learn to trust again by our actions, not our words.

At this time, this pandemic is the worst thing in the world.
However, what we can not see is God orchestrating a whole new calling on our lives. One of God's strategies for directing His children's step is to get us to slow down and reflect on our affairs. Because in hard times, we are inclined to listen to Him more intently.  #StayHomeSaveLives
