Everyone is a citizen of somewhere. Followers of Jesus are no different. They are citizens not only of their respective countries but, more importantly, are citizens of God’s kingdom. And, like any kind of kingdom, there are expected ways for citizens to live – ways that demonstrate the character and values of the kingdom and show others why this specific kingdom would be worth considering to be a part of. In Citizen: Living in a Counter-Kingdom, the CCCC Teaching Team will look at Jesus’ kingdom manifesto found in Matthew 5-7, better known as the Sermon on the Mount which shows followers of Jesus exactly how the kingdom of God is lived-out in real time.

A recent study showed that three out of ten young adults with a Christian background feel that “churches are out of step with the scientific world we live in.” This shouldn’t surprise us. There are countless stories of followers of Jesus who, upon entering college, find their faith confronted by their freshman biology class. The tension mounts: do I choose my faith over science or vise versa? But what if you don’t have to make that choice? What if there was a constructive path where you could both embrace your faith and not only be non-antagonistic to science, but more than open to it? In Faith and Science, the teaching team will guide you to those very answers and, maybe, discover a new way of understanding (and living out) your faith in a scientific world.

About the Series: Today there is a debate in our culture revolving around gender: What is it to be a man or a woman? Is gender biological or something more? Even if you define gender along historical lines, what does femininity or masculinity look like? In the By Design series, the CCCC teaching team will look at God’s view of men and women in order to see what difference, gifts, and impact each bring to the table of gender.

About the Series: B.C. – Before Christ. Time in the modern world is ordered by the number of years since the birth of Jesus. We often talk about how the arrival of Jesus changed everything. But what if there’s more to Jesus’ story than what started 2,000 years ago? What if exploring the stories of the Old Testament could reveal more about Jesus and change the way we follow him today? In the series Jesus BC, the pastors of CCCC will examine the stories of the Old Testament and the ways they anticipate the Christ.

About the Series: Beliefs are the software of the soul, so our entire lives operate according to our beliefs. Parents and others shape our beliefs so we can thrive as people. But some dangerous beliefs make their way into our lives through subtle or subversive means. These beliefs can twist our values, pervert our decisions, and poison our lives. In Toxic Beliefs, the CCCC teaching team will expose common toxic beliefs in our culture and call us to embrace the life-giving truth that replaces those toxic beliefs.

About the Series: Who is Jesus? Opinions about Jesus aren’t in short supply. Some see him as a religious leader, others as a well-meaning but misdirected political insurgent, and still others aren’t really sure. But it’s an important question to answer. Indeed, it’s one of the most important questions to answer. In this series, we look at episodes from the book of Luke to see just who Jesus really is. It’s a look that can change more than your mind. It can change your life.

About the Series: There’s a tension in the lives of followers of Jesus: How much can a Christian enjoy of what the world offers without becoming worldly? We know that the Bible warns believers of the soul-shrinking trap of worldliness, but does that mean to be faithful to Jesus requires a rejection of anything and everything we see others around us enjoying? In this series, we will chart a path through the scriptures to discover how followers of Jesus can avoid worldliness while still enjoying the good things of a world God created.

About the Series: Holy. The word has become a colloquial term our culture uses to emphasize surprise: Holy moly! Holy cow! Holy Toledo! But what does it really mean Truth is, there may be no other term that describes God best than ‘holy.’ Indeed, it doesn’t just give us a clearer picture of God but of everyone. In this series, we will not only examine what the Bible means when it refers to God as holy but how that holiness impacts those who are followers of Jesus.

About the Series: Conflict is inevitable. The question isn’t if there will be conflict with others but how will we deal with that conflict. In this series, we look at three bedrock truths every follower of Christ should know to better resolve their conflicts in a way that honors God and his kingdom.

Join us not to learn about the Christian life in abstract, but in a way that honors God in our everyday experience.
Note: Due to Hurricane Harvey, this series was cut short.
About the Series: Hurricane Harvey. What the rest of the world will regard as one of, if not the greatest national natural disaster ever to ever strike the United States, we will see differently. For us of the Bay Area, it’s personal. It wasn’t about someone else’s tragedy but ours. Television images showed our homes, possessions, and lives at stake as the waters rose around us. Now that those destructive waters have subsided what do we do? Where do we go from here? Not just physically and emotionally, but spiritually? What does God have to say about this? Where is the hope and help in such tragic times? In this series, we share some of the most important messages for followers of Jesus to hear in such a time as this – where hope and help can be found – so that we might deeply know that while Harvey has moved on, God has not. Please join us for one of the timeliest series we have ever taught at CCCC.

ABOUT THE SERIES: Promises. Promises. Promises. We all make them but do we all keep them? What about God and the promises he makes? For example, when he promises to save someone does that mean he will keep that promise all the way to the end? How can we be sure God’s promise to save is secure? In the latest series, The Faithfulness of God, the CCCC Teaching Team will look at what Romans 9-11 tells us about God’s promise to save his people. You might be surprised, amazed, and even overwhelmed to discover what he does to keep that promise.

In the latest series, Life in Christ, the CCCC Teaching Team will look at what Romans 6-8 tells us about the new kind of life we have in Christ. It’s one full of power, joy, and freedom now and forevermore.

But what is the proper response from followers of Jesus in a world seemingly divided by the color of one’s skin? In Race Matters, the teaching team will look to how the gospel speaks to racism and charts a path forward which embraces the truth, justice, and goodness of God for men and women of every shade and stripe.
About the Series: If you ask people about their relationship to God, answers vary. Those who see themselves as very moral often respond positively. They’ll say God should be pleased with them because of their constructive, good lives. Others who struggle in certain areas of life might convey a little more insecurity. They may feel God is happy with them sometimes, but not at other times. Still there are those who feel so unworthy of God due to their poor decisions that they despair in attempting to even respond to the question. So, what is true? Who does God accept? Does he love those who are good while turning away from the bad? If so, how good does one have to be in order to be “okay” with God? In the series, we look at Romans 1-3:21 to see who really is good enough for God.

About the Series: The famous 19th century essayist and poet Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote that life is to demonstrate “some difference that you have lived and lived well.” To live well. How can we know that we’ve done exactly that? We see all kinds of cultural messages and images that paint conflicting pictures of what that life looks like. Indeed, many a life has been ruined by that exact pursuit. So what does the beautiful life really look like and how can we make steps toward it in a way that blesses instead of burdens us? In the CCCC message series A Beautiful Life, the Teaching Team will look to the book of Proverbs to see how God can lead us into a life that is lived and lived well!

About the Series: Seems like everyone has opinions about what God is like and about the kind of people God loves. But, are they right? Jesus often began with the phrase, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like…” then told a simple story revealing the true character of God. These stories, called parables, expose and confront how mistaken we often are about both God and his Kingdom. The parables reveal God as more loving and gracious than we ever imagined! “It’s Like This…” will invite you to rethink your understanding of God and encourage you to draw near and learn more about him.

About the Series: It’s easy to lose sight of the greatness and grandeur of God. With busy schedules, full plates, and running here and there our hearts can forget what has really taken place in our life because of Jesus. The price he paid. The greatest of his work. The wonder of a God that loves us. All of it can make our spirits sour and our joy full, if we would but remember what a great God we have. In the series Our Great God: The Gospel in Leviticus, the CCCC Teaching Team studies through the book of Leviticus where we see, once again, how amazing it is to have a relationship to God through Jesus and how it changes everything.

What if you need to improve the way you love others? Where do you learn how to love others better? It seems we could learn to love better if we were loved better. That’s what happens when people encounter Jesus. We learn to love others in the way he loved us—with bold love. In this series, the CCCC Teaching Team explores the ways Jesus showed love to others so that we understand how he loves us. That way, you can learn to love like you’re loved.

About the Series: There is a very specific reason why people lay a boundary of rocks around a campfire. It allows them to take advantage of the fire’s benefits without exposing themselves to its potential for damage. In other words, the rocks allow you to keep something good (the warmth of a campfire) from potentially turning into something bad (the destruction of a forest fire). The same is true in growing your child’s faith. There are four foundational beliefs or “rocks” parents should understand in order to ensure their discipleship remains helpful and not harmful. In THE BOUNDARY, the CCCC Teaching Team will not only introduce these foundational rocks but show what discipleship looks like when parents run beyond this critical boundary.

About the Series: Love. Career. Kids. House. Sports. Retirement. Education. Money. The things we strive for are constantly jockeying for position. How do we decide what is most important? Who or what deserves our time? But what if we’ve been thinking about this all wrong? What if we’ve let the important things in life override Jesus Christ, the greatest of all things? Paul’s letter to the Colossians declares that life with a “less than" version of Jesus only works for so long. In our series Jesus is Greater, we will examine what it practically looks like to live believing that Jesus truly is GREATER.

About the Series: There can be little doubt that the place we find ourselves in history is one where much of the current is decidedly running against beliefs, ideas, and values that followers of Jesus have held since the beginning. Whether it concerns gender roles, sexuality, marriage, or religious tolerance, you can bet everyone not only has an opinion of what they believe but how that opinion should be expressed and embraced. So what are followers of Jesus to do? How should we approach these issues in a way that loves Christ and our neighbor? In this series, the CCCC Teaching Team charts a course whereby followers of Jesus can navigate against the contemporary current in a way that honors God and the people he loves.

About the Series: It’s a common question for people seeking to follow Jesus: How do I know if I’m really spiritually alive – that I’m a true Christian? It’s a great question, especially in a world where many claim to be Christian but are so diverse and divided when it comes to specific beliefs or practices that it’s hard to know who’s right and who’s wrong. Wouldn’t it be incredibly helpful to have some kind of monitor that could indicate whether we’re spiritually alive or not? The good news is, in some sense, we do. The book of 1 John was written to show us what “vital signs” accompany true faith. In this series, the CCCC Teaching Team examines those signs and encourages us all to press toward a faith and life that removes all doubt about the One in whom we believe.

About the Series: Jesus referred to the place where the people worshipped, as a "house of prayer." He specifically taught his disciples how to pray. He would regularly spend time in prayer, sometimes for an entire evening. Without question, prayer was important to Jesus and those who followed Him. How are you in prayer? For many of us, the question creates discomfort because we don't pray as we should. Some really don't pray at all. How can we grow into a people of prayer? In the series, Let Us Pray, CCCC will address not only why we should pray, but how, and what that means for us!

About the Series: Maybe it’s mobility and an average of 30 months before we move again. Maybe it’s commutes, technology or the extended workweek. Maybe it’s smartphones, Facebook, remote controls or garage door openers.
Regardless of the cause, relationships these days seem to be a mile wide and an inch deep. Those relationships don’t satisfy our soul. We need relationships that are closer, deeper and stronger. God desires for you to know and be known, to love and be loved, to serve and be served.
In the series, Uncommon Relationships, you’ll discover the biblical path that moves relationships beyond common superficiality to the uncommon connections God intended for people to experience.

About the Series: "Let my people go!" With those words, God demonstrated to his long-suffering people that he keeps his promises, is all-powerful, and will deliver them into a freedom they only could have imagined. Many think of Exodus as a story of miracles like a burning bush, plagues of judgment, and a sea split in half. But that’s to miss the big truth that Exodus is written for God’s people today! To know the story is to see that the God of Moses has continued to work well after Moses to “let his people go” from a greater bondage by a greater grace – a grace we see and are blessed by in the story of Exodus.

About the Series: Chapter 11 begins a new section in John. Jesus’ public ministry ends (10:42) and as he moves toward Jerusalem, Christ will give us one last sign: to grant life of someone who is dead. This “last” sign points to what Jesus’ upcoming death recorded will do for all who believe. A truth Jesus reveals in full in chapter 12. Sadly, people don’t want a Savior who has to die but one who destroys their enemies here and now leaving them glorious! Jesus shows us how God is “upside-down” from us.
