Ephesians 2:10 – For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (NIV)

Many years ago, during a trip to Canada's capital city, Ottawa, I visited one of their fine art galleries. Among the many beautiful pieces, the only ones which have stuck in my mind were all by the same artist. Though I do not remember the name of the artist, I do remember the artist's style. He used black dots. His pictures were all created by dots — hundreds of thousands of tiny black dots — which in turn created a total picture. One dot or even a few dots said nothing. But all the dots put together in the right way said it all. I found it a most intriguing style.

The other day, when for some reason I was thinking about this man's style, it reminded me of God's style: His plan for all eternity which He is bringing about, one dot — or in God's case, one person — at a time. For each one of us is God's workmanship, and each one of us has been created to do good works in Christ Jesus, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Alone, these good works which we do may not attract much, if any, attention. But when the good work of each and every person throughout all of history is put together, I can only imagine the incredibly beautiful and intricate work of art that we shall one day be delighted and awestruck to see.

As we go about our day today, let's remember how significant each one of us is and how the work that we do for Christ impacts others. To us, it may not seem like we are doing much, if anything at all. But if we are seeking to live our lives for Jesus in all that we think and do and say, with His Word being our rule, then we can know that it all counts. For just as each dot of the artist's work was responsible for making up the whole, so too, it is with us.

Prayer: Father God, we thank You that each one of us is important and significant, and that the work that we do for You is important and counts in ways that perhaps we will never know or see before eternity. But You know and see it all, Lord, and You are weaving it all together to form a piece of beauty so spectacular that all the angels in heaven will rejoice at its eventual unveiling. We praise You and thank You for this. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
