Paul reminded the Jewish Christians of their forefathers, who murmured and failed to enter the land of Canaan. Instead of trusting God’s promise of rest and walking by faith, they relied on sight. Even Joshua and David could not bring them into complete rest. In Hebrews 4, Paul urges us to revere God, believe His promises, and enter His rest by ceasing from our own works, just as God ceased from His. Elder Chris explains that God is fully satisfied with the work of Christ. Because of this, we now have peace with God and no longer need to strive to establish our own righteousness. We can come boldly to the throne of grace to receive mercy we do not deserve.
