God said; God saw; God called - It is powerful and personal

I. The EARTH - 1:2a

Was formless and void - meaning it was unfinished and uninhabited. Material is made then formed.

And darkness was over the face of the deep - Gen. 1:9-10

II. The SPIRIT - 1:2b

Was hovering over the face of the waters - determines, decrees, authority over, is there a veiled reference to Jesus walking on the water?

The Trinitarian Creator - John 1:1-3, 14; Col. 1:16; Heb. 1:2

III. The FIRST DAY - 1:3-5

And God said (God is verbal). - first recorded words of our Creator) - Reminds men of several occasions when Jesus spoke with great response: John 11:43; John 19:30; II Thessalonians 2:8-12; Revelation 19:13, 15, 21

“God is Light”- future description of our Creator (I John 4); Also God is love ; God is holy.

And God saw (God is visual)

And God called (God is definitive) - later in chapter 2 Adam would name the animals.

  • Creation, Separation, & Light are eventually placed in the context of the gospel of saving grace:

= John 1:1-13

= Revelation 21:22-27; 22:1-5
