John McHugo is a trustee of the Balfour Project and a board member of CAABU, the Council for Arab British Understanding. He has an academic background in both International Law and Islamic studies. He is the author of three books on the history of the Middle East. In reverse order of publication, these are A Concise History of Sunnis and Shi’is, Syria: A Recent History, and A Concise History of the Arabs. His talk today is an expansion of what he says about the Palestine Mandate in A Concise History of the Arabs.
