CENTRAL Belfast
We are Central Belfast - Joining with God and others in the transformation of Belfast as Disciples who make Disciples. Catchup on our teaching from all our Sunday gatherings. We Gather every Sunday at 11.00am at our home in May Street Presbyterian Church, Belfast and scatter to practice the way of Jesus in the rhythm of the city.
On Sunday, Fiona McNeill was sharing with us on the topic of confession – an incredibly important element of prayer. Confession is a gift from God because it allows us to lay down our sins. Fiona used the words of Psalm 139 to help shape our thinking about confession – Confession of Sin, Confession of Worry & Confession of Mind.

On Sunday, Dave Dickinson continued our summer series on prayer as we looked at the place of adoration with our prayer, working from Jesus' words "Our Father In Heaven, hallowed be your name." This was a reminder about who it is we are actually praying to – a deeply loving Father, and was call to demote the things in our hearts that we have put ahead of God.

On Sunday, we kicked off a new summer series on prayer. Dave Dickinson was with us as we jumped into week one, exploring the importance of our posture when it comes to prayer. Dave highlighted that this is about Stillness & Knowing.
Psalm 46
On Sunday, Jamie McMillan concluded our mini series on Romans 8 as we unpack those final verses that Paul writes to the Church in Rome. Through these verses, Jamie reminded us God is with us and that because of Jesus' victory of sin and death, we are co-heirs in His victory as supervictors, and we can be set free by Christ, and for Christ.

On Sunday, we moved through the penultimate part of our series in Romans 8 as we unpacked what the Apostle Paul has to say about one of life's universal experience – suffering. This is a call to live as people who live with a future hope in our present sufferings.

On Sunday, Dave Dickinson continued our series in Romans 8, as we unpacked the next few verses. Paul writes that life in the Spirit is a life of Adoption and Expectation. Because of the life that is offered to us in Jesus, by the power of the Spirit, we can live with the assurance that we are His heirs, and we can live with an expectancy that God is deeply interested in our Christ-like formation.

On Sunday, we continued our new series in Romans 8, as we looked at the next few verses that Paul writes to the church in Rome. Dave Dickinson was sharing with us, unpacking that freedom in Christ is possible and that this freedom sets the Direction of our lives and leads to what our lives Display.

On Sunday, we jumped into our series in Romans 8 as Dave Dickinson led us through the first four verses. Dave highlighted that the life that Jesus offers is more than just the mechanical bios life. Dave unpacked that these opening verses are all about Freedom – true freedom – and Power to live a full life.
Romans 8:1-4
On Sunday Dave Dickinson kicked off a new series called Life In The Spirit, that will see us walk through Romans 8. To set the scene, Dave preached from John 14:8-14 and upper room discourse of how the Spirit that Jesus gives us is both a Person & a Promise.
On Sunday, Gordon Campbell shared with us as we looked at the events of Pentecost – the birth of the Church. This was a significant Sunday for us as we also installed Dave Dickinson as minster of our church.

On Sunday, John Dickinson continued our series in Luke's Gospel, as we looked at the episode when Jesus appeared to His Disciples following his resurrection. John highlighted three things about our discipleship that this story speaks of; Our Faith, The Scriptures & The Holy Spirit.

On Sunday, Jamie McMillan unpacked the first part of that incredible encounter that Jesus' disciples had with Him as they walked on the Emmaus Road. Jamie highlighted that this is a story that recognises that our hopes can sometimes be dashed; a story that recognises that the stories we tell are important & a story that tells of how Jesus is our Living Interpreter.
Luke 24:13-35
On Sunday, we jumped backed into our series in Luke's Gospel as we continue to explore the encounters that Jesus had throughout His life and ministry. This week, Gordon Campbell was sharing on the encounter that Jesus had with the women who found His empty tomb. Gordon challenged us that, 1. if we don't quite believe in Jesus yet, we just need to hear a Word and respond to the prompting of the Spirit; and 2. if we’ve been transformed by a life-giving Word, we need to tell and show that Jesus lives.

On Easter Sunday, we gathered to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and its impact on us and on the world! Jamie McMillan was with us as he unpacked the nature of Salvation that is found in Christ and His Resurrection, and how we can access that salvation in both an encounter with Jesus and in the ongoing happening in the Christian Faith. In Him, we can become a new creation.

On Good Friday, John Dickinson was with us as we explored the events of the first Good Friday. John highlighted that the Kingdom of God is Open & Now.
Luke 23:26-43
On Sunday, Jamie McMillan led us into our Easter series as we entered Holy Week and unpacked the events of Jesus' Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem, just days before His crucifixion. Jamie challenged us to think about the crowd who were present that day and how the way to victory in Christ is surrender to Him.
Luke 19:28-40
On Sunday, Lydia Neish continued our series in Luke's gospel as Jesus arrives in Jerusalem ahead of the events of Holy Week. We unpacked the moment that Jesus enters the Temple and grieves what He sees. Lydia reminded us that this episode is about Worship and how we are to surrender the things that are 'on our table' that aren't Jesus. We also explored how this is about Power, and how we live can change the world around us.

On Sunday, we continued our series in Luke's Gospel. Stuart Newburn was with us, sharing on that infamous encounter between Zacchaeus and Jesus. Stuart highlighted the Person, The Encounter & Response, in an exchange that displays the wonder of the Gospel message: Jesus meets us where we are, transforms our hearts and leads us to live as people who have been changed.

On Sunday, Gordon Campbell shared with us again as we moved into the next part of our series in Luke's Gospel. Gordon unpacked two episodes that find Jesus engaging with His twelves disciples and then with a blind beggar. Through both of these encounters, Gordon challenged us to learn something from each of the character groupings: Learn the Lessons, Make the Switch, Answer the Question & Trust the Saviour.

On Sunday, Helen Warnock continued our series as we unpacked the Parable of the Pharisee & the Tax Collector. She reminded us that Jesus is inviting us to Himself, to live a life of righteousness because of His abundant mercy.

On Sunday, Jamie McMillan moved us into the next part of our series as Jesus tells a parable about a widow who persisted with a judge for justice. At its core, this parable is about being persistent in prayer, and Jamie highlighted three key themes within the passage – God's nature, Widow's example & What to do with Unanswered Prayer.

On Sunday, our good friend Rick Hill was with us as we continued in the next part of our series in Luke's Gospel. This week, we unpacked this teaching of Jesus as He proclaimed the 'now-and-not-yet' of the Kingdom of God. Rick encouraged us to Embrace the Kingdom Now & Expect a Future Kingdom.

On Sunday, Jamie McMillan continued our new series 'Meeting Jesus On The Way', as we look at the how Jesus encountered ten men with leprosy at the Samarian border and healed them. Jamie unpacked how this story critiques the logic of separation & the power of saving faith.

On Sunday, Gordon Campbell launched our new series 'Meeting Jesus on the Way', as we take the next few months to explore some of the encounters that Jesus had with different people, through the lens of Luke's Gospel. Gordon challenged us as we looked at the story of the woman who broke the alabaster jar of nard over Jesus, washed His feet and anointed His head – a scandalous act of worship. The call in this series is for us to make Luke's Jesus our Jesus.

On Sunday, as we welcomed over 150 new members into the life of our church fellowship, Dave Dickinson spent some time walking us through Psalm 24 as we looked at what it means to be people who are Humble, Holy & Hungry.

On Sunday, Dave Dickinson led us through another Psalm as part of our Psalms For The Season series, however, with a slight amendment to the series title Dave unpacked a Psalm for a disorientating season – Psalm 63. Dave outlined that as King David wrote this Psalm, he was himself in a disorientating season. This is a Psalm about Desire, Delight & Defence.

On Sunday, John Dickinson continued our Psalm For The Season series as we unpack Psalm 11. With much of the world is conflict and turmoil, John felt that the Psalm had something to our present-day realities of war, conflict and unrest. What do we do when the foundations are being shaken? David writes that we are to Stop before the Lord & Live forHimeveninamidstthe difficult realities of this world.

At our carol service, Dave Dickinson shared on the good news that Christmas is for our world. Dave reminded us that Christmas is an opportunity to invite Jesus into your life – to draw close to Him as He draws close to us.

On Sunday, as we gathered for the first Sunday in 2026, we launched our annual series of Psalms for the Season, as we unpack a range of Psalms. Jamie McMillan unpacked Psalm 51 as we kicked off the series.
On Sunday, Helen Warnock continued our Advent series as we looked at the place that whispers and rumours had in the Christmas story. The promise in Malachi was fulfilled through the life of John the Baptist as they prepared the way for Jesus. Advent is a time where we too prepare our hearts for Jesus. Helen reminded us that there is an Advent is a gift to ponder God.

On Sunday, Jamie McMillan launched our Christmas series as unpack the big themes of Advent. Jamie led us through the nature of Christian hope and how it is a Frustrated, Defiant & Sure Hope.

On Sunday, Dave Dickinson closed out our Belong series as we looked the opening verses of Peter's second letter to the church. Dave reminded us that to belong to the church, that there are resources available to us that we inherit through faith that deepen and strengthen us. There is also a responsibility to live a life of Goodness, Knowledge, Self-Control, Perseverance, Godliness, Mutual Affection & Love as we live in the way ofJesus.

On Sunday, John Dickinson continued our Belong series as we looked at Colossians 1:15-23. We looked at the theme of leadership and how Jesus is not just the Sole King & Hing of the Church, but over the ruler of all things. John challenged us to think about how we, the Church, are the vehicle in which God chooses to work out His redemptive, reconciling and renewing plan for the world in which He rules.

On Sunday, we continued our series on what belonging to the church looks like. This week, we looked at the place of Gifts within the church community. God has given all of us gifts to exercise for the good of the Church and glory of His name. Dave Dickinson shared with us that these gifts are about Unity, Diversity & Maturity.
Ephesians 4:1-16
On Sunday, Dave Dickinson continued our Belong series as we explore what it means for us to the Church as well as a local expression here in Belfast. This week, we looked at how the Church should creatures of habit. Dave highlighted that the habits and patterns that we build our lives upon should be about Common Good, Withdrawal & Engagement.

On Sunday, we jumped back into our Belong series, as Jamie McMillan unpacked a key theme of what the Church is – one, but different. We are made to be one body, made of many different parts who come together under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Jamie highlighted 3 main ideas. The Church is a body, not a machine; a family, not a Hierarchy & multicoloured, not beige.

This weekend we gathered for our fourth In-House Weekend – a weekend of food, story, teaching, worship & ministry. On Saturday morning, John Dickinson was with us, speaking from the life of Moses as challenged us to think about what our Priority should be as leaders; that People should be our focus; and that our Presence of God through us should be our distinguishing feature in the world.

As we closed out our In-House Weekend, Dave Dickinson was sharing from Paul's second letter to the Thessalonians, asking us the question, 'What do we do in the wait?'
Dave challenged us (through Paul's writing) to be a people who Imitate, Do Good & be a People of Peace.

On Sunday, we launched a new series, unpacking the theme of belonging to the church. Jamie McMillan kicked us off as we looked at how the church is to be colony of Heaven here on earth.

On Sunday, we marked a significant moment in the life of Central as we were commissioned as congregation within the life of PCI. Dave Dickinson, our Senior Leader, shared with us as we thought about what kind of church we are seeking to be. As he shared two prophetic words that were given to him over the last 6 years, Dave unpacked that we are to be a Well & a River; a well where the city can come and meet Jesus, and a river that flows out into the city, bringing the hope of Jesus everywhere it goes.

On Sunday, we rounded off our 'Who We Are' series as we unpacked the value of Witness. Dave Dickinson was sharing with us and challenged us to think about how witnessing to others about our faith in Jesus requires us to Experience & Tell.

On Sunday, Dave Dickinson walked us through our second value here at Central as we thought about the theme of worship. We are a worshipping people. We were made to worship. Dave reminded us of the Apostle Paul's challenge to the church in Rome as we explored how Worship is about Heart & Hope.

On Sunday we looked at the first of our core values here at Central as Jamie McMillan unpacked the theme of Community. We looked at one of the most famous parables in all of Scripture as Jamie spoke from the story of the Good Samaritan. He highlighted that this parable has much to teach us about community and specifically, Our Need for Community & The Uniqueness of Christian Community.

On Sunday, Dave Dickinson launched a new series, as we dive into our values here at Central. Before we explore these individual values, we looked at the 'how' of these values. We unpacked 2 Corinthians 5:18-6:2 as we looked a the Apostle Paul's call to be people of Reconciliation & Ambassadors.

On Sunday, Dave Dickinson rounded off our character study of Jacob. As we look at the astounding events if Genesis 35 and wrestle with its implications, Dave highlighted two main themes: Commitment & Faithfulness

On Sunday, we continued out character study of the life of Jacob, as we made our way through that incredible reconciliation between Jacob and his brother, Esau – whom Jacob had stolen from and deceived all those year earlier. Dave Dickinson was sharing with us and he highlighted three main themes in this text – Change, Reconciliation & Humanity.

On Sunday, Dave Dickinson continued our series in Jacob as we looked at that infamous moment when Jacob wrestles with God. Dave highlighted that this pivotal moment in Jacob's life tells of two key themes – Blessing & Presence.

On Sunday, John Dickinson continued our Jacob series as we unpacked a large part of Jacob's story. John took us on a whistle-stop tour through the several parts of Jacob's life. We see that Jacob finds his family, acquires a fortune and then flees. In all of this, John reminded us that God worked out His plans in Jacob's broken life and He can work out His plans in ours too.

On Sunday, Jamie McMillan continued our series looking at the life of Jacob. This week, we looked when Jacob fled his home. Jamie highlighted three keys aspects of the story: Reluctance, Revelation & Response.

On Sunday, Dave Dickinson continued our series in Ephesians, as we looked at what Paul has to say to Households: husbands, wives, children & slaves. Dave highlighted two key theme: Transforming Relationship & Life-Giving Authority.

On Sunday, John Dickinson continued our More series as we entered the fifth chapter of Ephesians. John unpacked the big theme of formation that Paul speaks of in this part of the letter and called us to be Children of Light; a people of an alternative Kingdom while we live here on Earth; a Kingdom that is marked by love and thanksgiving.

On Sunday, Dave Dickinson continued our More series. This week, we looked at the new life that we are offered in Jesus. This passage is marked by a Person and Patterns as we seek to live lives that are holy and Christlike - lives marked by compassion, kindness and forgiveness.

Unpacking Paul's incredible challenge to "to live a life worthy of the calling you have received", Jamie reminded us that we all have a specific role to play in the Kingdom of God; that vocation and calling is about knowing what it is we are gifted in and coming alive in that area of our lives.

On Sunday, we launched a new series called More. This is a walk through Paul's Letter to the church in Ephesians. Jamie McMillan launched this series as we looked at the context for this letter. It is found in Acts 19, where we read of the riot that was the catalyst for the church.

Following Easter, we dropped back into the final part of our I AM series, as Dave Dickinson unpacked Jesus' proclamation that He is the True Vine. This statement of Jesus is all about Abiding & Fruitfulness.

On Good Friday, John Dickinson was with us, and unpacked the role that Joseph of Aremethia played in Jesus' crucifixion. John highlighted that Joseph lived a Cross-shaped life that looked like Courage, Compassion & Commitment.

On Easter Sunday, we celebrated the resurrection of Jesus. Jamie McMillan was with us as he unpacked Romans 6:1-13 and how Jesus' resurrection was The Great Reversal, The End of History & Everything Upside-down.

On Sunday, we marked Palm Sunday as we entered the Easter season. Dave Dickinson unpacked John's account of Jesus arriving into Jerusalem ahead of a week that would change the course of history. Dave highlighted that this story is about the Crowd & the King.

On Sunday, Dave Dickinson led us through the penultimate part of our I Am series, as we looked at one of Jesus' most recognisable statements, "I am the way, the truth and the life". Dave walked us through the three parts of this statement and its significance for us as we follow Jesus.

On Sunday, Dave Dickinson moved us into part five of our I Am series as we looked at Jesus' proclamation that He is the Resurrection and the Life – all following the death His friend Lazarus. Jesus then goes on to miraculously bring Lazarus back from the dead. Dave highlighted that this statement is about a Sign & a Promise.

On Sunday, Jamie McMillan continued our I Am series, as we continued on from last week as Jesus unpacked His statement that not only is He the Gate, but the Good Shepherd. Jamie reminded us that He is the Good Shepherd because of His incredible, sacrificial love. To accept Him is to recognise our need for Him.

On Sunday, Dave Dickinson moved us into part three of our I Am series, as Jesus declares, "I am the gate". Dave unpacked that within this self-declaration, there is A Leadership Contest, A Warning & An Invitation.

On Sunday, we continue our I Am series, as we looked at the second self-proclamation of Jesus, "I am the light of the world". Dave Dickinson unpacked the significance of this statement and how the light helps us to see things as they are & to see God as He truly is.
John 8:12-20
On Sunday, Dave Dickinson launched a new series called 'I Am', unpacking the seven I Am statement of Jesus; or Jesus in His own words. We kicked off with "I am the bread of life."
We looked at the Context, Content & Calling of this declaration and how Jesus offers us the life that we deeply desire.

On Sunday, we were delighted to welcome Jonny Campbell as he closed out our series in the Ten Commandments. Jonny unpacked the final command 'Do not covet...', challenging us to lives that of joyful contentment. This life, which we see in Jesus, is one marked by Gratitude, Generosity & God-given Purpose.

On Sunday, Jamie McMillan walked us through the penultimate commandment 'Do not bear false testimony', as we looked at the place of lies and truth within the way of Jesus. Jamie tackled three main questions –
1. Why should we be a people who value the truth?
2. What does it mean to be a people who value the truth?
3. How are we going to become a truthful people?

On Sunday, Helen Warnock continued our Ten Words series as we looked at the eight commandment, 'You shall not steal'. Helen unpacked the Command & the Invitation that this commandment is. Both of which are viewed through the lens of God's radical generosity towards us.

On Sunday, Dave Dickinson relaunched us back into our series on the Ten Commandments, after taking a break before Christmas. We were exploring the seventh commandment, 'You shall not commit adultery'. Dave highlighted that this commandment is both Outward Facing & Inner Searching. This Commandment is a call to faithfulness as God has been faithful to us through Jesus.

On Sunday, Jess McCarroll closed out our Psalms for the Season series, as she unpacked Psalm 84 and the longing that the Psalmist writes with, as he longs to be with the Lord. This Psalm is a call to cultivate our hearts towards the things of God.

On Sunday, Jamie McMillan continued our Psalms series by unpacking Psalm 40. Jamie highlighted David's Rescue, Reflection, Response & Relapse. Through it all, God remains faithful through the trials of life.

On Sunday, Jamie McMillan kicked off our annual Psalms for the Season series that we walk through every January. We looked at Psalm 103 and Jamie unpacked three main themes as we start 2025 – The Benefits of God's Love, The Necessity of God's Love & Being Children of God.

On Christmas Eve, we met to worship and hear from God's Word as Jamie McMillan continued our Arrival series. In the penultimate session, we looked at the birth of Jesus and its significance for our lives.

On Sunday, Dave Dickinson finished our Arrival series as he spoke into the in-between that we go through between Christmas and the New Year. As we move out of Christmas and 2024, and more into a new season at the beginning of 2025, Dave highlighted that we need Perspective and Promise as we sit in-between seasons.

On Sunday, we continued our Christmas series, as we looked at Mary's part in the Christmas story. Dave Dickinson was sharing with us, and he unpacked two main themes - The Thrill of Hope & The Call of Faith.

On Sunday, Lydia Neish continued our Arrival series as we joined with our kids for our All-Age Carols. We looked at the part that John the Baptist plays in the Christmas Story and how he would eventually prepare the way for Jesus the Messiah. Lydia highlighted that there is a preparing and a pointing.

On Sunday, we were delighted to have Jonny Campbell sharing with us in part two of our Arrival series. As we prepare for the arrival of Jesus in this advent series, we were looking at Christmas through Old Testament Eyes. Jonny highlighted that the Christmas story, as Isaiah sees it, is a Eucatastrophe, that holds both Mystery & Treasure.

On Sunday, John Dickinson launched our Christmas series, 'Arrival', as we make our way through the Christmas narrative. He unpacked Isaiah vision of the coming of the Lord, and highlighted that this vision acts as two things - A Tractor Beam & Decommissioning.

On Sunday, Dave Dickinson continued our Ten Words series on the Ten Commandments, as we unpacked commandment six, 'Do not murder'. Dave unpacked there main points; The Crime & The Gift, The Principle & The Loan and The Hate & The Heart.

On Sunday, Dave Dickinson led us through part four of our series,'Ten Words', unpacking the Ten Commandments. This week - Sabbath. Dave reminded us that Sabbath is about Imitation & Invitation.

On Sunday, we unpacked the third commandment, “You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God". Dave Dickinson led us through this command and reminded us that it is a command about Person, Presence & Power.

On Sunday, Dave Dickinson continued our new series on The Ten Commandments. We launched into the second command to not worship any other images. Dave reminded us that this command is about Worship and Calling.

On Sunday, Jamie McMillan led us through the next part of our series in James as we made our way through the next part of James 3. This week, the topic was wisdom – how wisdom comes from within us and from God. Inner wisdom is not what we need. Ultimately, we need the wisdom that comes from God as we seek to become more like Jesus in our world. We get it by asking for it, practicing patience, telling the truth and fixing our eyes on Him.

Phil is an evangelist, missiologist and author of the book, The Best of Friends; unpacking the necessity and importance of friendship within our discipleship. On Sunday, Dave Dickinson continued our series in James as we looked at the theme of Faith & Works. He highlighted that faith has two outworking – Faith at the Edges & Faith at the Centre.

On Sunday, we continued our series 'Life Together' through the letter of James. Stuart Newburn was with us, as we looked at the topic of favouritism and partiality. He challenged us to think about how favouritism is within all of us – it is the tendency of a fractured heart. He also challenged us to keep the 'Royal Law' of loving our neighbour as ourselves; and in order to show no favouritism, we have to start with love.

At the Saturday morning session, Dave Dickinson opened up God's Word as we looked at the story of Mephibosheth and David's remarkable kindness towards him. We were reminded that this same kindness is what Jesus extends to us as we follow Him. His kindness that redeems, restores & gives belonging.

On Sunday, we concluded our series 'GO', on mission as Stuart Newburn unpacked the ultimate reality for the people of God. God will redeem all things, and with that, there are future and present implications: our future one of hope and restoration when were God will dwell with us. But until the, there are present implications - we are to be a people who live in light of the future that will one day be ours. A people who seek to see Heaven touch Earth in our time, for cultural renewal and to see the advancement of the Gospel on earth.

On Sunday, we moved into the fifth part of our series in 1 Thessalonians, and Dave Dickinson unpacked the topic of sex, that the Apostle Paul outlined in this letter. As Paul urges the Thessalonians towards God's best, he places a high value on sex, marriage and personhood.

We finished by looking at those words that Jesus spoke just after He states the eight Beatitudes; that we are the salt and the light of the world. Dave Dickinson shared that we have the option of either being tasteless & hidden in our world, however, Jesus calls us to be flavour & light; that we would live with potency and incision as we live as the Jesus People.

On Sunday, we landed on the last of Jesus' eight Beatitudes, looking at the theme of persecution. We had John Dickinson with us, unpacking these incredibly challenging words. John highlighted that, in persecution, Jesus is the target, the weapon is the lie & the response is celebration.

On Sunday, we continued our walk through Jesus' Beatitudes. We had Dave Dickinson sharing on what is means to be a people of peace. He outlined that we are Peacemakers and Sons & Daughters of Peace.

On Sunday, we had Jamie McMillan with us, sharing on the next of the Beatitudes - Pure in Heart.He shared that to be pure in heart is to have a single-mindedness towards the things of God alone.
As we moved to the fifth Beatitude, we had Dave Dickinson with us, unpacking the Jesus' lines "Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy". He reminded us at heart of this Beatitude is to be merciful and to know mercy.

As we walked through the forth Beatitude on Sunday, we had Stuart Newburn with us, looking at what Jesus meant when he said we are "hunger and thirst for righteousness". He highlighted that righteousness looks like the pursuit of personal holiness and the need for social justice, and how an awareness of our need for God is what will help us get there.

As we continued our Beatitudes series, we had John Dickinson unpacking the third of the Beatitudes, 'Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth'. He shared that the meekness that Jesus speaks of looks more like gentleness, and that through meek people, God is going in a different direction than the world.

We looked at the second of this Beatitudes, 'Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted'.We had Dave Dickinson unpacking this one for us, and reminded and encouraged us that comfort is for those who mourn, and those who have a defiant hope.
