After the resurrection, Jesus ascends back to the Father in Acts 1, the Holy Spirit descends on the apostles gathered in the upper room on the day of Pentecost, and this new thing, the gospel, extends outward to a few thousand people. The church is born. And the first thing we learn about this new movement is found in the first three words of v. 42:
"They devoted themselves."
