From my bunker deep in the heart of England...In this episode, I wander from pillar to post musing out loud about my year and how I deal with this no-man's land of time between Christmas and New Year. I ruminate on the merits of eating beef stew in the winter. And I get ambushed by a kitten.
Post 30 day challenge, how do I keep the momentum up. We now resume our regular programming
I stumbled upon a few websites that if you are a nostalgic Generation Xer like me, you might well like these throwback webspace. They are reminiscent of the weird and wonderful places that were spawned in places like Geocities and Livejournal.

This quote smacked me right between the eyes when I read it.
"We judge others by their actions, be we judge ourselves by our intentions."
It's a spin-off from a Steven Covey quote: "We judge ourselves by our intentions and others by their behaviour."
Here's why it caught my attention.
When we observe other people, we only see their actions and behaviours. We make assumptions about their intentions.
Our judgments, good or bad, about another person's actions and behaviours are made from limited information.
Flip it around.
Before you take action, you know your intention. You have the internal context behind your actions and behaviours.
But other people observing you don't. They make assumptions about the intentions behind your actions and behaviours.
How often do your actions and behaviours not represent your intentions?
For example, my intention was to do the dishes before my wife came home from work.
But I got caught up in answering an important email.
I had good intentions, but what my wife sees is no action, which could easily lead her to conclude, lazy git, I can't believe he left these dishes here for me to do.
Don't be so quick to judge another person's actions and behaviours without knowing their intention. And don't forget to consider if your actions and behaviours are congruent with your intentions.
Do you like a good daydream?
I know I do.
But here’s why daydreaming can be dangerous and why you should use your discretion when daydreaming.
We get ourselves twisted in knots when we become attached to certain outcomes and resist others. Better to let go and go with the flow while staying focused on the process, not the outcome.
We all know the map is not the territory. It's not until you get on the ground and see the terrain with your own eyes that a way forward can be planned in accordance with the sensory details around you at the time of departure. In this episode, I share a metaphor of the mountain trail and how it is like life.

Dave Winer, the American software developer, often talks about natural-born bloggers or NBBs. This got me wondering if people like us, who participate in #AudioMo are NBPs.
It's #Audiomo Day 20 and I'm back on the home front trying to get into the groove of the daily grind.
It's #audiomo Day 19. Today's cast is inspired by the radio legend that is the late Joe Frank.

In today's audioblog, I take a quick detour and share in the frustration that @daylightgambler and @katesparkle expressed earlier in the week before diving into my main topic of lists. I share my thoughts on Lisa Nola and Nathaniel Russell's book, Listography: Your Life in Lists.
It's Day 6 of #audiomo or audio bloggers' month. Today, I talk briefly about this idea of feeling a sense of belonging at work. Do you feel psychologically safe enough at work to be your authentic self? Do you feel a sense of belonging that allows you to flourish as an individual?

In which I explain my absence, hint at my new mission, being amazed at the depth of personal intelligence and its effect on success, turning the dial all the way up for a more impassioned life and remembering to structure my day so that my best self shows up.
So the question of purpose has popped back on the scene today courtesy of Mark Manson's newsletter which I receive.
What is my purpose? Am I living a life of purpose?
It's a timely question for me because I have been questioning my motivation. What is it exactly that I am trying to do and for what purpose?
As Agent Smith says, without purpose we have nothing.
Without purpose, we would not exist.
It was purpose that created us
Purpose that connects us
Purpose that pulls us
Purpose that guides us
Purpose that drives us
It is purpose that defines us
Purpose that binds us
So again, what is my purpose?
Even the best of us get tripped up by the things we preach about regularly. And today, I got tripped up, but I quickly caught myself, made the necessary adjustments, and then soldiered on.
My final conclusion on time is this: the only time you truly don't have time to do something is when you're dead.
Peace,
Clay

Keep moving forward. One of a handful of mantras, I keep in my back pocket, ready for recall when I need them. And this week, I had to remind myself that regardless of setbacks, I must keep moving forward, even sometimes if that means leaving someone behind.
Don't read too much into this. Nothing drastic has happened. But I have had to make some changes to one of my projects.
In this episode, I'll update you on what's going on in the soulcruzer creatorverse.
As always, thanks for listening.
Peace and love,

Do you consider yourself a good listener? If so, how do you know you're a good listener?
The thing is most of us don't really listen. We half-listen.
While we should be listening fully, we are instead, thinking about our reply or listening for a pause so we can jump in with our stuff.
I set a listening challenge for you on this episode. Let me know how you get on.
And as always, if you like this episode, consider sharing it with a friend. If you like the work I do, please consider supporting independent podcasting and put some money in my Tip Jar.
You might recognize the title as something Popeye used to say when he got fed up and was ready to take charge of the situation he was in. This episode is that moment for you, where you recognize you are who you are and that's all that you are and that's a good thing. It's the first step to liberation.

I've talked about this a number of times in the past, but, you know, it never hurts to remind ourselves of life's little truisms that help us ease our minds and boost our mental health.
I know stoicism is in fashion at the moment with the likes of Ryan Holiday and Tim Ferris waxing lyrical about it, but that's not why I'm talking about it. I've been a practitioner of stoicism for a long time. It helped me through my army days and has continued to be my grounding philosophy of life, along with existentialism.
I read a piece on High Existence that prompted me to talk about stoicism on the podcast today.

This piece from Anne Alexander really resonated with me. I'm guilty of burning the candled at both ends as well as multitasking like a fiend, two things that are not so good for our attention, which turns out, is a superpower if you cultivate it.
I'm looking forward to reading Peak Mind, by DR Amishi Jha a neuroscientist who has done extensive research on how our attention works. She shares a great beginner's technique for starting a mindfulness practice. It's called STOP. I'll walk you through it on the podcast.
Thanks for listening and sharing the podcast with your network, much appreciated.

Shout out to DR Raman K Attri for providing the inspiration for this cast. You can check out his post Addicted to Success.
I've been shuffling about in creative neutral these past couple of months, consolidating my thinking, figuring out what feels right to carry forward into 2022! What? 2022?! Yeah, that's right, I'm already thinking about the gig for next year. I like to start early so I can hit the ground running at the start of the year.
I mention starting up Wisdom Radio podcast, but on reflection, I think I'll just keep things simple and podcast from here - soulcruzer.
Anyway, thanks for listening and sharing the podcast with your network, much appreciated.

I've started reading Angel Tech: A Modern Shaman's Guide to Reality Selection. In this cast, I share what I've learned so far.
I was shocked when I realized this is my 306th episode of this podcast! Definitely time for an update on what's going on in the soulcruzer universe. The long and short of it is, I'm consolidating the soulcruzer franchise and reshaping how I show up and play online.

In this episode, I'm in the hot seat as my friend Cristina unleashes her inner journalist on me to find out what's behind my love of social radio, which has become my latest passion project. I also talk about how I got into Internet radio and my time at Radio Warwickshire. I also reveal my plans for the reboot of the Musical Journey show.
Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all. - Helen Keller
This quote has been with me for a long time. In my youth, adventure was my north star. I shunned the mundane. I hated the idea of living an ordinary life, doing ordinary things with ordinary people. I joined the military because as the recruitment poster said, “It’s not just a job, it’s an adventure.”
Post military, I continued my pursuit of adventure - jumping out of airplanes, rock climbing, mountain climbing, racing down mountains at break-neck speeds on a mountain bike, canoeing, adventure traveling, you name it, I was doing it. I became a thrill-seeking adrenaline junkie. And life was good.
At some point, domestic life caught up with me - wife, kids, corporate job. The raging flames of adventure settled down into a smoldering fire on the verge of going out. Over the past decade, I’ve settled into my role as a domesticated primate. I do interesting things. I get a bit of excitement from time to time, but no BIG adventures, no extreme uncertainty with death as a real possibility. I haven’t put my life on the line in ages. I haven’t felt that rush of adrenaline and extreme focus that comes with knowing that one small mistake, one lapse in concentration, could cost me my life.
Normal people my age are thinking about retirement or buying that little cottage somewhere in the country where they can settle into old age comfortably and peacefully, entertain the grandkids from time to time, and tranquilly wait for death to come calling.
Me, I’m hearing Dylan Thomas whispering in my ear:
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And I’m thinking how can I turn up the heat and go out with bang instead of a whimper.
I've been threatening to go on hamburger adventure for many years, now I think the time is ripe. We've been cooped up for a year dealing with this whole pandemic thing and now that we're finally allowed back out, I'm ready to hit the road. In the episode, we lay down the foundation of our burger rating system.

After a year of Zoom meetings, we now need to relearn how to look people in the eyes in order to establish trust.
I'm feeling a little lighter today. Maybe because it's Thursday and the workweek is coming to a close. Or maybe it's because I'm lifting heavy weights again after a year off because of the pandemic. Doesn't matter. What matters had a good lunch session on soulcruzer on the radio, which by the way, I think I'm going to rebrand to an old brand I use to have sport - The Musical Journey show.
I explain more in the audio:
From his bunker somewhere deep in the heart of Warwickshire, Soulcruzer talks to you about the slippery slope of time and how he’s not bothered about dying and is going into middle age gracefully. He also explains why he’s not qualified to give anybody advice on how to live their life. He also shares how Hunter S. Thompson’s Better Than Sex inspired him to live a Gonzo life, an attitude he hopes to bring to the show. Also in this episode, Soulcruzer goes down the rabbit hole with Goombah on a Bike to talk about time.
From his bunker somewhere deep in the bowels of Warwickshire, Soulcruzer talks to you about his recent podcasting epiphany, trying to preserve the memory of himself post-apocalyptic pandemic. He also talks about his broken body, joining the e-bike revolution, and why he hates army hospitals. He also shares how he tried to bring back the old normal and failed, his Baine impression, and what you can do to get your very own Soulcruzer goombah badge.
In this episode, I catch up with my friend Laura Heeley to chat about Vishen Lakhiani's little gem of a book: The Code of the Extraordinary Mind.
Zombied out on fear
my friends gave me a medal for digging
a hole with my bare hands and walking
on water like the messiah when she was lonely
and thirsty for politicians, generals and reporters
locking and loading the sign of the cross gave
me goosebumps and butterflies like before a big
football game, the world knew i was sick, served
me up anyway like a rusty can of c-rations
my friends, adrenaline junkies, zombied out on fear,
shuffled about their business making life out of
anxiety and death, a pursuit they felt better than sex
until beetles ate their flesh and they drowned

It's that time of the year again where hundreds of audio fiends descend upon the Internet to share audio of all kinds. That's right, it's #AudioMo 2020 let the recordings begin!
The beginnings of something new. An exploration of a long lost part of a soul. More to follow...
I woke up with fire in my belly this morning. There's only one thing I can do in those circumstances and that is to create something. I've been dancing around the idea of rebooting the audioblog for weeks. This seems as good a time as any to get going again. Also, who's ready for the contact tracking app? The NHS version or the Apple/Google version?
Big Merry Christmas to you all! I hope everyone is finding some Christmas cheer (go easy on the eggnog)!
Day 14 of #BlogPals19 blogging challenge. So far so good, no real struggles to get something posted each day.
Just when you think you have everything under control, a flipping monkey throws a wrench in your plan.
I've been interested in virtual training since the early days of Webex. The game has changed in the virtual training space and I was curious to know from someone who does a lot of training in this space, what is the field of virtual training like these days.
Catherine Nicholson of The Virtual Training Team was kind enough to share her thoughts on virtual training with me.
I have a renewed interest in nootropics, the so-called smart drugs for cognitive enhancement. I spoke to my good friend JJ who is kind of a geek about these things.

And just like that, we were back on track. Today on #Audiomo Day 5, I managed to get MR Mike Trussell on the line. We cover a lot of ground in a short space or time.
Hey up! #Audiomo Day 4. I forgot that people are busy. My challenge to speak to 30 different people for #audiomo this year has hit a snag and it's only day number 4. But I'm a person, so if I talk to myself, does that still count? lol.

What happens when an American and a Hungarian meet in England? Nothing but mischief.
On #Audiomo day 3, I catch up with my good friend Zoltan to talk about his love for the double bass.
It turns out I've known Justyna for just over a year now. We met through a mutual company we both do some contract work for. JJ is a kindred spirit. We both dig philosophy, start things we never finish, and think about things way too much. So here for #AudioMo Day 2 is Justyna.
First up is my friend Sara Beth Hunt, novelist and podcaster.
Broke in my new shoes, messed around with a couple of bot building apps, and generally goofing around on the net.
Removing the comfort blanket of CPD hours brings firms up hard against the cold reality of the business purpose of learning. Some have dropped it like a stone, glad of an excuse to cut costs. Others see it an opportunity to take a new approach to learning at work and to ensure that professional development serves their business needs.
In this podcast, I interview Nicola Jones of Athena Professional about the change in the way UK lawyers must prove their continued professional competence.

In this podcast, Sarah Beth Hunt asks Soulcruzer, aka Clay Lowe, the ultimate question.
I had an English professor named Dr Ignaffo. Whenever he caught us daydreaming in class he would yell, "BE HERE NOW!" I was thinking today about where our minds wander throughout the day, and as a result, how much of the world around us do we miss when our mind is not present.

In this audio, I talk about where this exercise finds me 8 years later on.

I started reading The Chimp Paradox: The Mind Management Programme to Help You Achieve Success, Confidence and Happiness this week. It's and interesting take on mind management. I'm enjoying working with the metaphors of The Human, The Chimp, and The Computer. Here my preliminary thoughts.

I've decided to do my own 30 day challenge having missed out and last month's Audiomo challenge.
Experimenting with different mediums for content creation, audio is still my favourite despite my long periods of absence. Last we I had play with Mixlr - the LIVE audio streaming app. I think it has a lot of potential despite perhaps being overshadowed by Periscope and Meerkat, which are all the rage at the moment.

I know I talk a lot about building your online networks, but I think it is just as important as a small business owner to build your in real life networks as well. One of the networking groups I attend regularly is 4Networking, which prides itself on being 50% Business and 50% Social. And I think on the whole, achieves this, so worth checking out for one in your area.
had the pleasure to be in Stratford Upon Avon to catch Mike Pagan speak at the Stratford 4N Breakfast Meeting. Mike is a productivity expert and keynote speaker. Now I think Mike is one of the UK’s most underrated speakers out on the circuit today. He’s an excellent speaker, great voice and presence. So if you have a business event coming up and need a keynote speaker check out Mike Pagan.
In just under 20 minutes, Mike delivers a powerful message about how to find the success that’s right for you.
Finally, after a 10 year history of online-ness, I got a chance to meet my virtual buddy, Cathy Kunst, on a layover at Heathrow.
One of the things I love about 4Networking is the opportunity to meet a variety of interesting business owners and entrepreneurs who are doing some really amazing things in business.
I recently attended the 4N Warwick Breakfast meeting and got a chance listen to Peter Edwards of Edwards Performance speak. I’m a big fitness fan and have been involved with health and fitness since my days in the army and I can say, hand on heart, Peter opened my eyes to some amazing facts about nutrition and performance, not just as a fitness nut, but as a entrepreneur where productivity and mental alertness are key components of success.
You will want to listen to this podcast until the very end. I guarantee you’ll gain something useful that you can implement today.

reflecting on some inspirational advice I came across earlier in the day. #audiomo Day 18
Earlier today, I blogged about some of the equipment I use to make my podcasts. At the time I was still awaiting the arrival of the Audio-Technica ATR2100. As luck would have it, I was out this morning when the delivery went down. I was a bit miffed because I've been waiting at least a week for this thing.
But luck swings both ways.
While out walking this afternoon, I saw a DHL van a couple of miles away from my house. I waved him down. Luckily he didn't think I was completely mad because he slowed down and pulled over. I told him I had missed a delivery this morning. He asked me my name and sure enough, he had my package. Cool. And good on him, he did ask for ID. Happy that I was who I said I was, the DHL man gave me my package and off I went.
I thought I'd give the ATR2100 a quick test to see how it sounds.
Verdict so far is I like it. I like it a lot.
