A Fearless Heart: How the Courage to Be Compassionate Can Transform Our Lives

Episode #10: In this STATE OF MIND episode, Debra Sloss, LMFT is again joined by Buddhist nun and teacher, Venerable Tenzin Chogky and Patrick McGinn, a student in her Mindfulness Studies program. They discuss how basic compassion skill practices can help people learn to be gentler with themselves and others, and feel happier in their lives. Venerable Tenzin talks about the value of practicing compassion and highlights how it differs from other similar concepts. She shares tips on how to begin practicing compassion and gives examples of how to apply these newly learned skills. Patrick, a practicing Buddhist, insightfully describes how these skills have helped him to become less judgmental and led to greater joy and connection with others. He describes how the practice of compassion helps him manage anxiety, feel more comfortable with himself and grow closer with his family. Patrick tells how he learned these skills and shares simple things he does to keep them alive and working in his life.
