Zion's Lost
For our farewell episode, we discuss why we decided to end Zion's Lost after 3 years and over 150 episodes. We share some memorable experiences we have had and episodes that still keep us up at night. We also talk about a few cases we wish we could have covered, but couldn't due to privacy reasons.
We appreciate your loyalty and support of our podcast. We are very thankful to have had such kind listeners who care about the cases and victims as much as we do. We hope that we have succeeded in bringing awareness to cold cases, missing persons, and victims of violent crime.

In 1989, a successful mother and social worker, Annette Hill, left her home at about 8pm, never to return. A robbery and murder gone wrong led to police to some of her belongings, but the suspect was never charged with any crime relating to her disappearance. However, that would all change in 2011 when another cold case from 1989 was reopened, and evidence was retested.

It’s what fun is! Utah’s family-owned amusement park, Lagoon, has an interesting history dating back to 1886. Lagoon has hosted famous bands, has original wood-carved animals on the carousel, and the infamous ‘White Roller Coaster’ just celebrated its 100th birthday. But with all the rides, games, and cotton candy, comes a few deaths and injuries.

This week we are discussing two missing persons. Both disappeared in 2020 in the same general area of North Ogden. Etzil Cortez Trujillo was last seen by their broken down vehicle on the North Ogden Divide. Shelby Campbell left for a hike during a heavy windstorm and no trace of her or her belongings have been found. Her vehicle was located in the trailhead parking lot.

This week, we are continuing with commemorating Pride Month by discussing a murder and an assault. Both crimes were solved, but the murder was not solved until 30 years later, and the assault was on a friendly bicyclist well known to those in the Logan area.

In November of 1988, Gordon Church stopped at a 7-11 for a pack of cigarettes before meeting friends for dinner. A few days later, a parolee confessed to police that he and an accomplice tortured, raped, and murdered Gordon, before dumping him in a shallow grave.

In 1896, human bones and teeth were found inside a church furnace in Salt Lake City. When the reverend, Francis Hermans, could not be located, police suspected him from the start. However, when the details of his life and his history of wives disappearing or suddenly dying, the story got more scandalous and hit the newspapers not only in the U.S, but internationally as well. Even though his face was all over the papers, Reverend Hermans has escaped capture for over a century.

This week we explore two missing persons cases that are not connected, but involve endangered and at-risk individuals. At 19 years old, Timothy Scott Parry walked out of his house, never to be seen again. In 2001, 68 year old Johnnie Mae left her sisters home to go to the grocery store. Her unoccupied vehicle was found about 100 miles away from her home. Although a couple ranchers saw her wandering the desert, Johnnie was never located.

After Lauren’s murder, The McCluskey’s filed a $56 millon lawsuit against the University of Utah. They believed that Lauren’s murder could have been prevented and even with a thorough investigation showing a history of negligence and not taking Lauren’s concerns seriously, the U of U president was adament they did all they could.

After breaking things off with Melvin Rowland, Lauren McCluskey couldn’t escape her abuser and stalker. He used spoof phones to call and harass her, looked into her windows at night, tried to lure her out of her apartment, and he even blackmailed her for $1,000. She took her concerns to the UofU campus police who dismissed her worries and violated her trust in the most disrespectful and disgusting way.

In fall 2018, Lauren McCluskey was a student at the University of Utah on a Track and Field scholarship. While on the phone with her mother, she was walking back to her dorm when she was attacked. Later, she was found dead in the backseat of a vehicle on campus. Her family and friends didn’t hesitate to point the finger at the man she had just broken up with.

Ella Young was a wife and mother of 2, including a 4 month old baby boy. She loved hiking in Hobble Creek Canyon with her husband and their sons. When she left on September morning in 1953 to go get a can of corn for their supper that night, she never returned home. Her family was worried and started looking at the place she loved the most, Hobble Creek Canyon. There, they found her car abandoned with her shoes in it. Did Ella leave voluntarily to start a new life? Or was she unknowingly suffering from postpartum depression?

In 1983, Tommy was just 9 years old when he was removed from his mother's care and placed in a foster home in Thatcher, Utah. One morning, he went out to feed the dog and never came back in the home. His body was found about a month later. With several other children going missing and being murdered in SLC and Pocatello, ID, police wondered if Tommy's case was related. Arthur Gary Bishop denied involvement and Tommy's killer has never been found.

The mystery of D.B Cooper is one of the most intriguing unsolved mysteries in the world. But what many don't know, is that in April of 1972, just 6 months later, Richard McCoy Jr. from Provo hijacked a plane from Denver. He demanded 4 parachutes and $500,0000. Many speculate and some are even convinced that McCoy wasn't a copycat hijacker, but D.B. Cooper himself.

After they did not arrive in Needles, California as planned, groups of searchers looked by air and on foot. In the late night hours during the summer of 1965, Tanya Kay Weber was dropped off at her home after helping at a wedding reception. Her family was out of town and when she accidentally left her purse in her friends car, she was unable to get into her home. The next morning, her lifeless body was discovered just a block away. In the summer of 1955, Jocelyn Hickenlooper was ready to celebrate her 23rd birthday. Just the day before, she was seen walking away from her home with two unknown people. Her body would be discovered in Parley's Canyon 16 days later. A developmentally delayed acquaintance of hers was questioned by detectives until he confessed. Although there was no evidence linking this man to her murder, he was confined to The State Hospital for the Insane. Shortly after, Jocelyn's case was closed and her real killer has never been identified.

In November 1987, Korrina Sagers was reported missing after not arriving for work. Her husband Steve insisted she left voluntarily. Less than one year later, her 11 year old daughter was seen waiting at the bus stop, but was never picked up by her school bus. A note left at the scene suggested that Korrina came back for Annette. However, the mother and daughter have never been seen or heard from since.

Guy Michael Johnston, a father of two, was being a gentlemen escorting a woman home after a night at the bar. The night turned deadly, and his body has never been found. In an unrelated case, 20 year old Jay Kelly Tincher lost his life after a stranger couldn't take a joke. Although he said the killer's name shortly before he took his last breath, the killer has never been brought to justice.

After finishing an exam, college student Valaine Briggs walked out to her car, never to be seen again. After just a two days, her body was found nude with her ankles and wrists bound with her own clothing. Leads quickly dried up and no arrests have been made.
