How to go about this training
- Run a long line to control the distance that your dog patrols at.
- I use the command, “Patrol Out” and encourage the dog to move forward.
- Praise at even a step or two forward. “Good Patrol”
- Continue until the dog will pull to the end of the lead. Walking trails or around a larger property is an ideal place for this.
- Once the dog will confidently “Patrol”, I begin putting turns and movements into the command with hand and arm signals.
- Begin running scenarios.
