Stories help children process life challenges and we can use stories to help manage behavior that has become disruptive or developed into a negative pattern.
Stories are healing and when you use language that conjures up picture images you can guide your child to a calm state especially when they're having a difficult time with change whether it's a change in the rhythm or routine or a bigger life change.
**I have found that telling stories that you create in the moment or plan ahead can really help to calm a young child help them feel secure. In the early years, children do well when we use descriptive language; picture language as I like to call it. By picture language I mean words that describe an event in a way that the young child feels like they're stepping into a story.
There's more in this episode on this topic. Listen in and you'll also hear two stories that I tell, both spontaneously created, as examples to inspire you.**
