Why is skin bleaching so popular amongst minorities? Why has Colorism or Shadeism dug deep into the world's view on beauty all stemming from Eurocentric beauty standards? Colorism is a huge disadvantage for darker-skinned people while it offers privilege to those with lighter skin. Research has linked colorism to lower incomes, lower marriage rates, longer prison terms, and fewer job prospects for darker-skinned people. This episode aims to increase your awareness of colorism by learning about the practice and its historical roots, the celebrities who’ve experienced it and how changing beauty standards might help us fight the discrimination being experienced.
