Now before they lay down, she came up to them on the roof, and said to the men: “I know that the Lord has given you the land, that the terror of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land are fainthearted because of you…And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath. Now therefore, I beg you, swear to me by the Lord, since I have shown you kindness, that you also will show kindness to my father's house, and give me a true token, and spare my father, my mother, my brothers, my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.” (Joshua 2:8-9; 11-13)
That was what Rahab the prostitute said to the 2 spies from Israel. She has heard of what the God of Israel was capable of doing. She came to a conclusion that He is “God of heaven and earth”. In the ancient polytheism society, such a declaration stood out. It propelled Rahab to do the next logical thing – to choose to worship this God alone and no other.
Rahab was a prostitute. How she became one, we can only speculate. But once a harlot, her moral standing in her society is determined. Men will not respect her. Women would despise her. Her future was predictable. Her descendants will carry that stigma with them, if ever anyone who be serious enough to want to marry her. But that one decision to worship and submit to the God of the Bible initiated a whole process of shifting – shifting of her destiny. So much so that she was counted worthy to be mentioned in the genealogy of Jesus, the Saviour of the world. Salmon begot Boaz by Rahab, Boaz begot Obed by Ruth, Obed begot Jesse, and Jesse begot David the king. (Matthew 1:5-6). By choosing to worship the God of the Bible, Rahab’s destiny was realigned to that which is from God, to be part of the ancestry of the Saviour of the world!.
We have no choice nor control over our ancestral lineage. But our ancestral lineage does not determine our destiny. Our destiny is in the hand of Jesus. If you find yourself struggling with the entanglement of generational curses due to iniquities, take heart. That is not the end of the matter. The God of the Bible is powerful. He has His eyes set on you. Not to destroy you nor your descendants. But to shift your destiny in alignment to His perfect will and purpose. Come to Jesus today, above all else. Choose to worship Him and enthrone Him as King and Lord of your life. Let Him take you through the process of “Destiny Shifting”. For He is indeed your Destiny Shifter!
