If we are to have a clear conscience, we need to trust Christ in what He has done for us and who He is, Son of God, Son of Man - that His sacrifice is beyond sufficient, it is effective on our behalf. Nothing else is needed. We need know that.--The Devil loves to remind us that we are no good, we are unworthy and reminds us -do you remember you did this particular sin - how can you live with yourself----The cleansing power of Christ's blood will set us free from sin and its guilt and shame.
