Important Updates About Ram Party Trail Runs [This went out to all Registered Runners for the Ram Party Trail Runs] Hi Runners: We have an important update for this weekend’s Ram Party Trail Runs. If you weren’t aware a winter storm moved through the mountains above Colorado Springs today (and will be continuing into the night). Our team was out on the course today starting our course marking and setup. Due to hazardous winter conditions above 8000 feet on the upper parts of the Ram Party course (specifically around the Rampart Reservoir which sits above 9000 feet) Aravaipa Running has decided for the safety of runners, volunteers, staff, spectators and our venue hosts (Pikes Peak ... When we decided to create a virtual race event in response to our core business (large scale trail running events) shutting down indefinitly due to the COVID-19 situation we wanted a name that would draw us closer together as a global community of trail runners. Something that would inspire others, but also ourselves. I’ve yet to face a challenge like COVID-19 and its far reaching effects to the events business in my time as an entrepreneur and I fully understand ... Read More
This story has two parts. A long and a short. I will start with the short as it has important information regarding this year’s Silverton Steep Camp (formerly known as the Silverton 1000 Multi-Day Challenge). Cancellation of 2019 Steep Camp Silverton Due to increasing costs with renting the venue at the Kendall Mountain Recreation Area which is owned by the Town of Silverton we have had to make the tough decision to not hold this event in 2019. We hope ... Read More
After a long hiatus, we are reviving our weekly YouTube show aptly named “Aravaipa Trail Talk”. This show has evolved a couple of times starting out as a chat with Aravaipa founder Jamil Coury and evolving to feature athletes and trail running business owners in the community and recently with our new co-host Jubilee Paige a Q&A show. So where are we headed now? The show will return with weekly episodes ranging from 30 to 60 minutes in length featuring ... Read More
When I saw him come into the mile 45 aid station at Badger Mountain he was ahead of schedule just as he had been all day. There was some dried blood on his hand and some fresh stuff still running down his right knee but he had a pleasant demeanor as he calmly stepped off the trail up towards us. When approached by the cheerful Squirrel’s Nut Butter team at the Badger Mountain Aid perched atop a juniper covered hillside ... Read More
Community. That’s the one word that comes above all others when I think about the Aravaipa Group Trail Run and what it means to me. Building a community around the trail running scene is what we set out to do when we formed the weekly one hour trail run in 2011. Back then, the group met up each week in Tempe at Papago Park and a handful of us went for a run followed by a couple of beers at ... Read More
The 2016-2017 Desert Runner Trail Series is coming to a close just in time for the weather to really heat up here in Phoenix. The 7th and final race in the series is the Mesquite Canyon Trail Runs on March 18 at White Tank Mountain Regional Park. We thought it would be fun and beneficial to update everyone on the current point standings. Since the final race in the series is worth more points (1250 instead of 1000) this one can really shake ... Read More
Wow, it’s already November. The evenings are getting dark early and mornings here in Phoenix have started to become (almost) chilly. That means one thing for us here at Aravaipa: we are just wrapping up the Javelina Jundred . It’s hard to believe that this was my 9th year as Race Director of this amazing event which has grown into the 2nd largest 100 mile foot race in North America. I agreed to take over the race back in 2007 at the ... Read More
