We often take time to remember family, friends, and loved ones who have passed on but what does it mean to be part of those groups? What does it take? Typically our first unspoken requirement is that they are human but what if we included animals in those groups as well. Brian Ratcliff is a graduate student at SUNY-ESF who decided to bring the celebration of remembering lost species to campus. He, together with several other students and faculty, planned the day with the hope of bringing our biologically diverse neighbors closer to our family circle.

Alaina Mallette finished her graduate degree from SUNY-ESF in 2016 in Environmental Science while she was living in Mexico and volunteering in the Peace Corps. There, she consulted municipalities as they modernized their community master plans, developed summer environmental camps for kids, and even found the love of her life. Lauren Alteio graduated from SUNY-ESF in 2014 with a bachelors degree in Environmental Forest Biology. She is currently a PHD Candidate at the University of Amherst and studies climate change through looking at soil organisms! Take a listen to learn more!

Tim Bova is a rising Junior studying Conservation Biology and has had the internship of a lifetime! With a passion for taxonomy (naming and descibing newly discovered species), he has spent the summer updated and creating population maps of endemic frog species, studying lizard genetics along with some work with endemic vipers.
