On this week's show, I ask the question "What's the Plan"? There is a difference between a plan and a strategy. Most of us get caught-up in the strategy, and this often leaves us reactive and can slow us down. The plan, however, is the outline of steps thats keeps us moving and ensures that we execute towards the goal. Do you have a plan? Listen closely.

On this week's show we are digging even deeper into the lessons I learned from being on break. "Power of the Pause" comes from a concept I learned during a parent teacher conference in relation to emotional responses. I, however, applied it to life in general and have since made it a priority to hit the pause button in during certain seasons over the past 10 months. There is a difference between "stop" and "pause", after this episode you will understand what that difference is! Enjoy.

In order to build, solidify and protect your reputation there are few things you should consider and a few things you can do right now! However, first you must ask yourself the all important question; What is my Reputation?

On this week's show, who needs a "pick-me-up"? It's easy for us to sometimes slip into a rut and wonder if what we are currently doing is what we are suppose to be doing. I can tell you from experience that it probably is! Why you ask? Because you haven't conquered it yet. Because you have not been in position to be the best at it yet. Because you have not given it your all yet. Because you keep quitting before you even try! The two questions I want you to answer for this week are below. Run fast, Run hard and Run YOUR Race!

  1. What keeps you up at night?
  2. What gets you out of bed in the morning?

On this weeks show we are talking about two important facts in business. The first, “to build something for generations, that something must be bigger than one person!” The second, “it takes a village to raise a business.” Both of these topics have one theme in common… they focus on inviting others into your space to add value and help you grow your situation. We have to stop the “lone wolf” approach. We have to stop thinking it’s a badge of honor to build everything by yourself all the time. In this season, I encourage you to reach out to others and see where you can add value. Help someone build something that will last generations. Be gracious and share your talents!

On this week's show, I am going to give you some life updates and explain why and how "counting your blessings" puts you in a positive state of mind. I leverage this positivity to change the dynamics of every meeting, Zoom call, and consult I'm apart of. The other people participating can't help but to smile when they see how AUTHENTICALLY happy you are! This was a transparent exercise that unfolded during the course of the show. I challenge each of you to "count your blessings", change your focus, shift your perspective, and adjust your attitude. On this weeks show, we have all heard the phrase, " Jack of All Trades, Master of None". In my opinion we, as a society, should erase this from our memory banks. It's almost 2022, the world is different and times have changed. If you are not a "Jack of at least 4 trades", you will be "a master of being broke"! This concept is turned upside down by this weeks topic. "Never say no, but don't always say yes".  Saying "No" cuts you out of opportunity prematurely, and always saying "Yes" often puts you in uncomfortable situations were your confidence is challenged. What if I told you there was a gray area? An area you can exploit to give yourself the advantage. Listen closely to this episode to find out how!

On this weeks show we are releasing the 100th episode! I think back on how we started and where we are. Over the course of the last 100 consecutive weeks I have learned a few tough lessons and grown my grit in ways I couldn’t imagine. The best part of this process has been getting to know the listeners and guest of the show. I would like to thank every single person who has listened to one minute of one episode, every minute minute of every episode and those in-between. Each week before I press record I go though a range of emotions. Is this topic important? Will it resonate? Do people think I’m full of crap? Does my voice sound ok? Is the show too long? Is the show too short? Is it entertaining enough? Do I put people to sleep? Do I know what I’m talking about? Are they sick of my face? Did I do enough prep? Are my jokes corny? Am I qualified? Did I overshare? How high should my download numbers be? Can they hear my kids streaming in the background? Am I embarrassing my family? Will anyone even listen? In spite of this, once I’m “live”, all that goes out the window and Coach Mark holds it down! However, this does not happen without the most important person to the show. Cecilia Knox, is the glue that holds me together and the person that encourages me to unapologetically deliver a fresh episode each week. She engages with every guest and every person who follows us on the socials. Her entrepreneurial journey inspired the show and her dedication and capacity helps keep it going. She is the magic behind the man. Thanks Cece, Love you.

I thank everyone for holding me accountable to reach #100 in as many weeks.

On this weeks show, I had to go back to the vault and release an episode that I initially scrapped a few months ago. This is the story of how I became a real estate investor and mindset changes I had to adjust to get me there. I wanted to make sure this information was available for my listeners, but more importantly, my KIDS. One day they will be old enough to hear what their Dad went through and my mindset in the very moment that I started to build generational wealth. The goal of this episode is to be transparent and authentic in my approach to this subject. I don't intend to be discouraging or negative. I want to honestly express my experiences thus far. On this weeks show we are doing a bit of refection. As we quickly approach our 100th episode I think back to #1 and can't believe we are here. Not that I didn't think we would make it this far, but often when we start something new it's hard for us to see into the future on what it could become.  I discuss my real motivation for keeping the show going and why it's important to maintain consistency in process. If you have been rocking with me this long, thanks! I also want to give you an update on what I've been doing this summer and how those things have changed my perspective on my entrepreneurial journey. Hopefully you appreciate me sharing my vision and values. Enjoy!

On this weeks show we are talking about the negative affects of casting your fears and doubts on other people. If someone thinks enough of you to share their ambition, dreams and goals the worst thing you can do is tell them what YOUR fears are regarding a subject you have no experience in. Please stop! We didn't ask for your analysis or opinion, we just wanted to share some good news in hopes you would encourage us (our mistake). I'll let the episode do the rest of the talking for me...

On this weeks show we are talking about the FEAR OF REJECTION. It's the little things that people tell us or we've heard that defeat us before we even begin a process. We close the door in our own face before anyone else has a chance to kick it open on our behalf. What is that? Most of the time it's the FEAR OF REJECTION that holds us back. Session #1 of this years Summer Series is examining the FEAR OF REJECTION and how to work towards overcoming it. We must never quit before we try! Stop holding yourself back.

On this weeks show we are having a candid discussion about the lies we tell ourselves when it comes to "what we are actually capable of ". More specifically, the reality of starting a project and not having the discipline or consistency to maintain it for any reasonable length of time . One of my biggest concerns when I see a budding entrepreneur or someone who wants to start a new project, is coming out with a big splash, only to completely disappear in a short time. We want you to consider following the model of "slow and steady wins the race". What can you do, what are actually capable of sustaining? Do you have processes in place to ensure you don't get burned out? If you have ever quit something then made excuses as to why it wasn't your fault, Im talking to you! Take notes!

On this weeks show we are exploring what it means to be "free" as an entrepreneur. We aren't just talking about financial freedom, (which so many people think it the root of owning your own business), we are talking about being holistically FREE. What does freedom mean? Freedom is the ability to think and act in the mindset of abundance vs the spirit of fear and lack. Remember, desperate people make desperate decisions. Coach Olivia James, Owner of Bodied Boot Camp is all about this freedom. She talks with us about the importance of rest, delegation, and always keeping your eye on the goals you set out. Coach Liv is in prime position for growth, although she has experience success, she is committed to seeing her brand and company as a global force. If you are someone  who really wants to understand the thought process behind what makes a "free entrepreneur" listen closely and prepare to take notes.

Our discussion touches on the unrealistically high expectations consumers place on businesses, and how to overcome negative reviews and feedback. For the consumer, we talk about "why you should not expect or even ask for a discount" from an up and coming business, and why you should be extending a little more grace during your experience. Each of our guest brings a different perspective that adds value to the conversation. If you are a business owner or someone who takes pride in supporting black business, you don't want to miss this episode. On this weeks show I'm taking you back to where it all began. The place that helped shape who I am as professional and ultimately a man. Thats right, we are going back to the living room of my college apartment! 2120 was the address; Ean Johnson, Everett Butts, and Jeff Payton were my roommates. These are the three gentlemen that I consider to be my closet friends. The four of us have a conversation about low expectations, crippling success, and the danger of comparing yourself to others. We are four men who started in the same spot, then  took different paths and consider the success of the others to be our own. We cheer each other on and are never afraid to offer perspective and constructive criticism when it counts. On this episode you will hear the personal account of how our college life shaped our professional existence. If you want a deeper understanding of why I think the the way I do, start here!

On this week show, we hear from some HardKnox Podcast Alums as we dive into the fear of execution. 2021 is about 30 days away and most of us will develop lofty goals and resolutions over next month. The issue however, is we have not yet identified the factors that kept us from achievement over this past year (2020).

  1. What are you afraid of?

On this weeks show, I have a challenge for you! 5 strategies, everyday, for 5 days. This is all about focus. I want to help you bring your thoughts and ideas in line with you goals, vision, and ACTIONS. What do you want? What are you trying to build? Where do you want to be this time next year? All these questions require you to focus, not only on the task at hand, but every action and move you make between here and there!

#1. Take care of your physical needs [eat, drink water, sleep, use the bathroom]

#2. Eliminate distracting activities [anything that takes your mind from the task at hand or consumes thought load]

#3. Shut-up [never miss a good opportunity to SHUT-UP. Instead, think, listen, and breath]

#4. Be selective with your energy [Minimize the resource pirates in your life and have criteria for your actions]

#5. Be intentional with every action [don’t leave without knowing how and where you are going, visualize the journey and plan for the unexpected]

On this week show we are going to dive head first into my recent experiences with becoming  aware of my mental health. Between changes in family dynamic, the pandemic, pressures of business, and leadership responsibilities, I had to come to terms the fact that my mental health needed some immediate attention. Many of us go through life thinking that mental toughness is all that matters and "grinding" is the answer to everything. The reality for me is that I was suffering from a lack of healthy ambition. Being aware, and finding someone to be transparent with was my first step to understanding the state of my mind. I was stuck IN MY OWN HEAD and I needed quality rest to slow things down! Hopefully you find personal value in this weeks show. At the very least, please share it someone who will.

We have all seen a poser, that is, someone who is pretending to be someone else. We have also all seen a product or business that is a direct copy and often of lesser quality of another. On this weeks show we take the long route in answering this question as it relates to your business. Are you inspired by someone or just imitating them? There is a very thin line between the two ideals. One often leads to success in knowing the journey and the other is rooted in failure and shortcuts. If people rarely ask you for help, this episode is for you!

July 2, 2020 at 1am marked the official mid-point of 2020. I know we have been through a lot this year, but many of you still had goals and objectives that you communicated to me at the beginning of the year. The School of Hard Knox has a responsibility to bring those back to your memory and hold you accountable. This weeks show is a challenge to anyone who set out to do something great in 2020! We are exactly half way through and its time to evaluate your business over the past 6-months. We will focus on these 4 questions to determine what adjustments we should make for the remainder of 2020;

  1. Is my brand today what I intended it to be when I started?
  2. Have I given my process enough time to develop?
  3. Have I invested enough of my money, time, and resources to hold myself accountable?
  4. Have I experienced failure, defeat, or disappointment?

Exposure is the most powerful investment you can make into any young person. From early childhood, exposing children to people, places and things that prove the world is bigger than the block, street or circumstance they face is critically important. I believe one of the most important duties of a responsible father is taking the lead on exposing their children to everything GOOD the world has to offer. This episode, #40, is dedicated to my Father, Mark V. Knox for doing just that. If you are a young father or father to be, this episode will encourage, and help you understand why your children need you to take risk and help them navigate the world!

By now you are most likely wondering what happen to this weeks recording. Why do you hear, (or not hear), over 8 minutes of blank tape? The School of Hard Knox is taking a temporary pause for the cause on releasing any unrelated content to what is going on in the world, the county, and likely your city in right now. We are aware and affected by the impact the George Floyd homicide has had on the world, and just like last weeks show, "it would be irresponsible to use this platform for any other reason right now". I have been in deep thought this week on what topic to produce the show on that would bring value to your business and personal growth. After talking with my brain trust, I reached the conclusion  that this movement needs all available platforms in order to make its point. If you are reading this message, thank you. George Floyd spent 8 minutes and 46 seconds with a law enforcement knee on his neck. This ultimately resulted in his death. If you choose to listen to the entire show, please use these 8 minutes and 46 seconds to reflect on the events of the past week and what you can do to create change in your circles. Donate, March, Educate, and VOTE. Thank you
