We all want to be as effective in our music ministries as we can. But when it comes to our songs, we may end up settling for less than the best. In this episode, Paul Gibbs and Nate Miller talk about ways to maximize the impact, and the effectiveness, of your songs, all with the goal of bringing glory to God and to touch hearts and lives for Him.

For example, you may write wonderful, meaningful lyrics but your music writing is relatively basic, or not at all. Or you may write beautiful melodies but struggle to put words to them. You may find yourself struggling with how to arrange your songs, or what style to use, what instruments sound the best, or wish you could put different instruments in your songs that you don't play. It may be that collaboration with other artists is the answer. Or simply a fresh look at ways to use the talents and skills you already have.

And by the way, many of these topics apply to cover songs as well, as many artist like to do fresh arrangements of cover songs, but struggle with how to best do that.

In this episode, Paul Gibbs and Nate Miller share some thoughts about why staying in our comfort zones isn't always a good thing. And, they share some ways that we can start taking steps to break through what Bruce Wilkinson describes in his book, "The Dream Giver", as the "wall of fear" and into our God-given destiny.

Talking to your bandmates between songs about how you messed up the words of that last tune, or arguing about what song to play next, is not exactly "best practice" for how to act professional on stage. What is the best thing to do when your audience applauds for you? Should you always talk between songs? Whether you're a band or a single act, there are ways we should all conduct ourselves when we're up in front of an audience. And this is even more important when we're representing the Lord with our music!

In this episode, Paul Gibbs and Nate Miller share some of their experiences, from both being a single artist and bands members, including some mistakes along the way, and give some advice on how to best represent ourselves and the Lord when we're "on stage" for Him!

"Who booked THIS gig?" If you've been a musician very long, you or someone in your band has maybe asked this question, as an expression of frustration to some unexpected situations when arriving at the venue. The room is too small for your 4 or 5 piece band. Or they said they had all the sound equipment you'll need only to get there and find out it's a karaoke machine - with 2 mics. Or, "Oh, did we forget to mention you'll be playing on the third floor?"

There are many variables to consider when booking your next gig, from room size, volume, and equipment needed, to what style or genre of music is expected, audience size, and many more. In this episode of The Artist Impact, host Paul Gibbs and Nate Miller give you some tips to help you prepare some questions before you accept that next gig, and they share some experiences from their own music careers as musicians themselves!

In this episode, hosts Nate Miller and Paul Gibbs discuss what goes into making a "set list" of songs to play as you plan your next gig. Start with a cover song or original? Fast song or slow? All these topics and more, on this episode of The Artist Impact Podcast!

As Christian musicians, we can leave our audiences with a lasting impact, or just impress them with our music skills. Although God's Word tells us to "play skillfully", if all we do is impress people with our fancy solos, intricate harmonies and wide vocal range, but fail to bring them closer to Jesus, we've failed in our calling. In this episode, hosts Paul Gibbs and Nate Miller talk about the importance of using our gifts to make a lasting impact for God, the One who gave us our gifts!

When we compare ourselves and what we do to others and their talents and skills, we can come away with discouragement, despair and maybe even decide to just give up. Or, our pride may kick in and give us a feeling of superiority and make us look down on others. Either way, it's not God's desire for us that we compare ourselves to others, but that we strive to be all that He has called us to be.
