God has gifted each of us more than just grace, but abilities and special jobs to do with those abilities during our time on earth. Today, we talk about how we as Americans can bristle at the idea of being stewards, not owners, of our blessings and our timidity in investing them.
In Matthew 25, Jesus presented the parable of a master entrusting treasure to servants while he goes away. Some of these servants passed this test, and some failed.
From the garden to the temptation of Jesus, to Phillipi, to this very day, the enemy's lies have not gotten more creative. Like Paul, we need to learn how to hear them, and how to drown them out with the truth.
In our final sermon of the Mysteries Unveiled series, Pastor Jon pulls back the curtain on the oracle woman from Phillipi in Acts 16. Discovering what was going on behind the scenes, Jon asks us to search our current circumstances and see if we are struggling against the same forces, and perhaps need to take action against them.
One resounding takeaway from Pastor Galen's message this week was that just as Erastus, the Ephesian treasurer, can use his time, treasure and talent to further the gospel, so can each of us today. But what does that look like?
The Ephesian city treasurer mentioned several times in Paul's letters may have been brought to life through following archeological clues, and what we discover is a person worthy of emulation. In our everyday worries, we forget our position of relative privilege and plenty, of the ways God has equipped us and the opportunities He sets before us. Like Erastus, we are called to grab these with both hands to further the Gospel to the greater glory of God.

This week's sermon centered upon the way God providentially prepares the way for those who are carrying out His plan on earth. In the Companion Podcast, we discuss the ways in which that same providence is active and visible today and explore how we might discover the purpose God has for each of us right now.
Pastor Jon Simpson examines the conditions of the first-century Roman Empire, and how it was the perfect stage for the entry of Jesus and the Gospel. God is intentional in how He works, and seeing that reminds us He is intentional with us, as well, working all things toward His final goal in the fullness of time.

Remembering the Jesus is and will be victorious in the battle between good and evil is a fact that comforts those who fight on His side. Even more uplifting is the knoweldge that not only will Jesus be triumphant, but we are the spoils, the objects that He "wins" in His victory.
Pastor Jon "digs up" a lot of reasons why not only should we trust what the Bible says is true, but we should be confident that the evidence of archeology supports it.

We continue working our way through the book of Hebrews, and today Pastor Jon comes to chapters 5 and 6, which include some harsh criticism and heavy warnings.
We're joined this week by Pastor Chris Harris, or new Worship Pastor at Cheyenne Hills, as we talk about what the author of Hebrews meant by God's Rest, and how we can have access to it and the power and presence of God through Jesus Christ, but we have to activate that connection for it to do anything in our lives!
This sermon covering chapters 3 and 4 of Hebrews rounds off the theological foundation the author sets for his Jewish audience: who is Jesus. This final one, as Pastor Jon points out, was a doozy: Jesus is bigger than Moses. What does this mean? It means we finally have another shot at God's Rest after the Israelites blew their change, and we finally have full access to God through Jesus Christ, our perfect high priest.
What are you doing in your life — right now — that would survive the fire mentioned in 1 Corinthians 3:11-15? I there something in your life right now you're putting a lot of effort into... that will just burn away?
Hebrews 2:2 asks "how shall we escape [retribution for our sin] if we neglect this great salvation?" It's took easy to stray in a world filled with more distractions than ever, but we're called to hold close to the gift we're given through Jesus and live our lives accordingly.
Okay, so we got a bit excited about the way the Bible came together in the early church, but mostly today we talk about our big takeaway from the first sermon of the new series: how we can disagree on a lot of things and still maintain unity through a focus on Christ.
Pastor Galen kicks off a series exploring the Book of Hebrews, beginning with the idea that we can disagree and still have unity, as log as Jesus is what we do agree on.
If you looked back at the hardest parts of your life, how have those seasons equipped you to serve God? Who might you be specially qualified to minister to because of that suffering?
Associate Pastor Jon Simpson gives the final sermon of our series on the Book of Acts with one of the toughest things a preacher gets to tell a congregation: Your suffering can serve God. By the time he was imprisoned in Rome, Paul knew this better than anybody.
When Paul finally returns home to friends after a long... LONG missionary journey, he faces accusations and has to make a choice: do I tell them to get lost, or do I take an incovenient extra step to help them get over an obstacle?
Paul faces decisions of when to engage with people, and when to disengage and move on. He also encounters people who, like us today, needed to face the truth about spiritual battles that go on around us and can be a danger to us. In the end, Paul is challenged to re-affirm himself before his friends, and his reaction may suprise you.
There are people right here, around you, who YOU are specially qualified to speak to because you "speak their language." How can we remind ourselves that we are always on mission for Jesus to tell the world about Him so we take opportunities to speak to those people?!
The account of Paul's second missionary journey shows examples of unexpected changes, and finding a way to speak to people in a very different culture who knew nothing of God.
Twelve years after Jesus' ascension and the beginning of the Apostles' mission, the first bit of serious internal trouble showed up in the Church. Spoiler alert: people weren't getting along.
Pastor Jon joins us again this week as we ask the questions: Where in your spiritual life have you run into opposition where you expected support? Have you ever had people you thought were on your side turn on you? It's not a great feeling, so how do we recover and stay on-mission as Christians?
We continue our study of the book of Acts as the early church movement takes it's first official foray into the Roman Empire. They start with Cyprus. That should be an easy one, right?...
Pastor Jon Simpson joins us on the podcast this week to really look at what Peter went through that night God miraculously sprung him from jail, where he may well have awaited his execution! How do we react when God springs us out of a situation we did'nt think we could be saved from? And how often is the way he answers our prayers so unlike our expectations we could almost miss it?!
We continue our journey through acts, and things are really heating up for the fledgling church. James (one of the big three!) is put to death and Peter finds himself arrested again with no way out... and he needs a miracle.
Peter had to learn to let go of the cultural traditions and rules that could stand in the way of fulfilling Christ's commission to spread the Gospel. Cultural Christianity can be just as big of an obstacle to us, today, when it keep us from being fully-formed servants of Jesus.
God speaks to Peter through a dream to prepare him to put aside his old cultural biases so his mind won't be too blown when he hears that God also sent a message to a Roman centurion — a leader of oppressive army occupying Peter's country.
Have you ever been written off as a lost cause? Paul had, but Jesus called him and he became instrumental in the early spread of Christ's Church. Which leads us to ask... who have you written off that you should still be pursuing?
Guest speaker Keith Kautz shares a few important (and a little convicting) questions that he takes from the story of Jesus confronting Saul/Paul and calling him to a new ministry for Him, rather than against Him.

This week we talk about how things that make us uncomfortable are often God's way of pushing us to the next stage in our growth.
Sometimes discomfort is the thing that stimulates the biggest growth, and so it was with the persecution of Christians in Jerusalem and the Church's growth into the world we see in Acts.
In part 4 of our Tetelestai series, Pastor Jon talks about "stepping into a moment." On the podcast we talk about what that moment looks like, the nature of being a Witness for Christ, and how exactly we might show that little bit of courage in our lives.
Stephen was the first martyr of the church after Jesus' accension. He had an opportunity to back down, or step into a moment and be courageous. When his life was threatened, he began to preach. What would our world look like if every Christian had even a little more of such courage?
Galen ended this week's sermon with the idea that "Living things grow, and growing things change." We'll talk about how this affected the early church, modern church, and the call to action on Acts 6 for each of us.

Today we start a little "in the weeds" stepping further into the oikonomia idea Galen presented and how it fits into the theological model called Dispensationalism.
BUT THEN we get back to more applicable questions of how well we follow the examples of the first Christians in the days after the Pentacost.
We in Wyoming don't have difficulty imagining the mighty roaring wind that came through the room the day the Holy Spirit arrived. But what about the way the people who it fell upon changed; the boldness and courage? That is something we should also be able to attest to, but how often do we feel the Spirit burning inside us?
The first chapter of Acts covered by Pastor Galen in our new series contains Luke's account of the Great Commission, in which Jesus called his disciples to go and spread the news. But how does this affect us, today? We share the commission given the early church leaders, so who are our personal versions of these groups? Who is your Jerusalem? Your Judea? And what about your Samaria?
Just as Jesus' final word on the cross "Tetelestai" marked both the completion and beginning of stages in God's plan, so does the phrase both end our Easter series and begin our 3-month journey into the Book of Acts.

Three speakers explore the experiences and lessons of three individuals during the 18 hours prior to Jesus' crucifixion.
Pastor Galen referenced a passage in Mark in which Jesus offers an answer to the Pharisee's question if they can answer one from Him, and they are too afraid, too "on the fence" to answer.
The luke-warm Pharisee and the luke-warm Christian have a lot in common. If we find ourselves sitting on the fence in our Faith, we may find ourselves in poor company as well as in grave danger.
We continue our Easter series with a look at the way Jesus approached His ministry, how he reacted to those around Him in order to teach them, the chances He gave and the consequences if we don't take those chances.
The Pharisees couldn't answer Him, and the tree withered.

This week's sermon revolved around the parralel tracks which split out from Eve's sons Seth and the imfamous Cain. Two "trains," one's track bound for worldly pursuits, and the other toward reverence for God. Where do these two separate trails show up in our life? And perhaps more difficultly, where do we see them within ourselves?
This week we begin our Easter series by exploring the unexpected promise God wove into the sentence He passed on Adam, Eve & the serpent in Genesis 3: 14-15. Galen explains how this began a history-long conflict between those who would seek gratification in the world, and those who would revere God. Luckily for us, the outcome was already determined, and would come to a head with Christ's sacrifice and resurrection.
Today we dig into the ideas Galen presented in his sermon about the parallels between the Holy Trinity, Jesus's ministry, the structure of marriage and the roles of men and women in the church.

We start a new series this week, and just as a disclaimer, this one will require patience and carefull listening. We will cover the God-ordained, Biblical model of a family. These are parts of scripture we like to glaze over, because we're afraid they're saying something we won't like, when in fact it shows a loving and beautiful structure. These are words that can be weaponized, but when we have eyes to see and ears to hear, we can see through to the Truth.
Part one covers the three institutions ordained by God according to scripture: family, government and the Church.
We finish off our sermon series about checking our worldview and beliefs against the reality of God's Truth with a big one: the fact that you and I and all of us are made in the image of God, and all the complexity that comes with that!
One argument those who question the Christian worldview bring is the "problem" of Evil. If God is good, how or why does He allow evil to exist. It turns out, this is actually more a problem for other worldviews to explain, as it fits right into the True image of reality provided in Christian belief. How, you ask? He went ahead and prepared the way, getting people ready for what was coming. In what ways can we be forerunners for Jesus? How can we approach those in our lives that might make them more open to the Gospel and freedom of Christ?
When Daniel was visited by an angel, he was told there was a battle with evil in Persia. Daniel's prophesies showed him the battle would end with a Savior who would one day bring forth God's eternal Kingdom. Where do we see echoes of this battle, today?
This week, we start our Christmas sermon series, which explores the times angels came to tell people about the coming of Christ. First Isaiah, then Daniel, Mary and finally a group of lowly shephards.

Pastor Karsten picks up the baton on this series exploring the ideas behind Cheyenne Hills' new expressions of purpose as we fortify our church processes to make stronger and more impactful disciples of Christ. We continue our series on the Fruit of the Spirit with Kindness. Pastor Galen get's into the nitty gritty of the Greek word for kindness and how much more meaning, message and instruction can be found in Galatians 5:22-23.
WHOA! Pastor Galen's sermon talked about hearing what God has to say to us and being able to pay attention when He speaks in order to experience the Peace Jesus himself left us. Pastor Karsten and producer Kasey take it from there this week diving deeper into what it looks like to experience the Peace Paul is speaking of in Galatians 5:22-23 when describing the Fruit of the Spirit, and what Christ promised to leave with us in John 14:27. In the passage in John's gospel, Jesus said he'd leave us His peace, but "not as the world gives do I give to you." Wait? What?! The sermon was about joy, so how did we get talking about crucifying things? We kick off our Jukebox series featuring the fruit of the spirit with the first mentioned by Paul in the Galations 5:22-23 passage — love. Paul states in 1 Corinthians the importance and complexity of love, and Pastor Galen adds that one of the most important parts of love is RISK. God takes a risk in love by granting us free will; we take a risk in loving and worshipping God; and finally we take risks when entering in the bond of marriage here on earth as well.
One of the themes that connect resent sermon messages and the upcoming series is "fruitfulness." Between recounting an adventure of a trip to the east coast, Pastor Galen and producer Kasey Orr discuss the nature of the "works of the flesh" versus the "fruit of the Spirit" as described in Galatians chapter 5. They talk about the connections between the freedom Pastor Karsten talked about last week, and this continuing battle between the flesh and Spirit.
We hope everyone had a great 4th of July, where we got to celebrate the freedoms we enjoy in this country here on Earth, but Pastor Karsten's message this past weekend was on the more important kind of freedom, that to which we have been called in Christ Jesus.
Our challenge this week: try to cultivate the three habits from this week's message into your lives, so we don't get this awesome gift of freedom, but stay sitting in our cage and not moving forward in our walk with God.

Pastor Karsten Sween leads us in a special Fourth of July weekend message. As we celebrate our nation's founding, we remember the worldly freedoms we enjoy today were bought by love, blood and sacrifice. So much the more do we enjoy a freedom that is greater by far thanks to the love, blood and sacrifice of our savior Jesus Christ! But what do we do with that freedom? How are we good stewards of this amazing gift given to us by God?

Pastor Galen finishes out this series on eschatology (end times) by reminding us again why we should care: because we don't know what time we have left. Not to be alarmed, not to be afraid, but in order that we might diligently be fruitful. All through the gospels Jesus made it very clear he was looking for fruitfulness, and not knowing when the master will return, we are called to be better than the bridesmaids in the parable and not be found napping with lanterns empty of oil when he returns.

Nathan and Pastor Galen continue the second of three pieces on the Biblical roots of foundational American values, and the onus of each generation to forge their link in the chain of history so that these values are not lost forever.
This week we dive deep into a subject Galen brought up in his sermon in the third part of The Great Reset series, and that is the danger of nominal Christians who weaponize scripture. It forces us to ask ourselves, am I living my life as a true Christian led by the Holy Spirit in a journey to be more like Christ, or do I just use scripture to get my way and religion to feel good about myself? It's a scary question! Men who use Ephesians 5:22 to abuse and dominate women, leaders who us Fundamentalism or Legalism to hold authority over others instead of living a life of service, these are just a few examples of what can come from God's Word weilded by the wrong hands.

This week's message brings a unique Father's Day application of our Great Reset series: when looking out for all these things prophecy says to expect, where do we draw the line and how seriously do we take our roles as Christians? The example used was Fathers living — instead of a toxic masculitinity — a Biblical picture of masculinity. Pastor Galen also looks at ways current technologies and political movements might show us a picture of what end-times events may present themselves.
Nathan returns from giving a speech about standing up for truth, and holding on to Christian values in order to pass on our religious freedoms to future generations. He and Galen unpack this further, finding the roots of what are called "conservitive" values in the Bible.

If someone asked you, "What is God like," would you have an answer? Guest speaker Keith Kautz tackles the huge topic of the greatness and majesty of God in this final instalment of our Knowing God sermon series. His thesis statement: "What you think about God determines everything else in your life."
Pastor Karsten joins a slightly different edition of the podcast to talk about one of his primary focuses in the new Next-Gen Pastor role here at Cheyenne Hills Church. Hebrews 10:24-25 says "Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some poelple do, but encourage one another..." [NLT] When people quote this passage, I often hear them start in verse 25 and use it in connection to coming to church. But when we see the intention of the statement, we can see it's about much more than that! The passage from J. I. Packer's "Knowing God" is this: "I am a child of God. God is my Father. Heaven is my home. Every day is one day nearer. My Savior is my brother; every Christian is my brother [or sister] too."
Do I, as a Christian, understand myself? Do I know my own real identity as a child of God and a co-heir with Christ, himself? Pastor Galen speaks today of this life-altering understanding of who we are, and challenges us to make this a driving part of our lives. The following is what we read together at the end:

Continuing to follow the interview with Brian Noel, we're given a miraculous story about what happens when we submit to the will of God even though we may not understand it. Cole Church gives the message this week and follows up Brian's submission story with that of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Jacob, who's name is changed in his story to Israel and becomes the father of God's chosen people, through whose family we are all blessed with the salvation offered by Jesus Christ's sacrifice. So, when God calls your name, will you answer as Abraham did and say, "Here I am, Lord!"
The movie and book titled "Jesus Revolution" has gained a lot of positive feedback from the Christian community, and reminds us there are ways to speak to the parts of each generation who aren't getting the Gospel message. Pastor Galen and Nathan Winters ask the question, "Who are the 'hippies' of our generation, and how can we reach them where they're at?"

But a Christian knows that shame is the internal indication of the guilt of our sin, and through Christ alone can we become justified and forgiven of our sin and thus be relieved of our shame. The book of James emphasizes the importance of confessing our shortcomings to one another, so it's no wonder many great revivals have been sparked by this same act of trust, love and fellowship. Hate your mother... what?! Yeah, our response is probably a lot similar to that of those living in Judea when Jesus first said that. We complete our Ripple Effect series with a message on justice. A subject which our guest speaker Keith Kautz knows quite a bit, as a Justice of the Wyoming Supreme Court. But the justice in today's message is much bigger than that of human courts. It's a justice one should understand in order to better understand God, as well as to understand His supernatural patience with us.

As the next generation grows, tragedies and dangers of the past that loomed over their youth fade and the lessons learned get lost with time. Do we have cultural amnesia? It's Palm Sunday, when Christ came riding triumphantly into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey. The Pharisees, who should have known the prophecy of Zachariah, refused to recognize the unprecedented deliverance offered by the long-awaited Messiah right in front of them. Welcome to our new series, "Unprecedented." We noticed some words with great big meanings get thrown around until they've lost their weight. This is one of those words that media and politics has almost completely worn out. But what does "unprecedented" really mean. It not only means something that has never happened before, but something so unheard of it's hard to describe it. We saw it as a word meaning "something so new it changes the world." We knew of plenty of things like that, we realized, all throughout scripture. Especially the unprecedented nature of Christ coming to earth and acting as a sacrifice that changed our relationship with God forever! So we've made this our Easter series.
In the first sermon, we dive into the unprecedented nature of the grace God showed Adam and Eve in the aftermath of the first sin.
We're kicking off Season 3 of our podcasts with a new devotional series that will cover a variety of topics. Jesus used the metaphor of a shepherd and his flock many times, so this week René Minder joins Julie Fogg and Ken Will in exploring the many ways we can find opportunities to follow Christ's example of being good shepherds. Paster Galen and Nathan Winters came to the recording studio after speaking at the Governor's Prayer Breakfast hosted by Wyoming governor Mark Gordon. They discuss the impact and takeaways of seeing such a large gathering of legislative and community leaders at a Christ-centered event, and then move on to discussing some of the big items coming up in this year's Wyoming State Legislature.
It's been nearly one year to the date we decided to work through the book of Genesis in our podcast. It became it's own animal. We've gone from creation, to the flood, through Abraham and line until Joseph. In chapter 50, Israel (Jacob) is dead, honored and buried, and when Joseph models forgiveness once again. The tribes of Israel are in Egypt, setting them up for Exodus, through which God becomes known to not just a family, but a nation of his people. Join Pastor Galen, Ken Will, Austin Miesner and producer Kasey Orr as we finish the final chapter of Genesis.
What's next? Good question! We have lots of ideas of what to do next with our podcast. We'll now run the sermon portion of each Sunday's message the following Monday. On Wednesday, Galen and Nathan Winters will still tackle current events from the Christian perspective. Starting in March, every Friday will be a new set of podcast episodes covering all kinds of subjects in more of a devotional format. Some will be single episodes, some multiple parts, but all of them tackling different subjects while relating directly to scripture and application to our daily lives.
