Thanks for checking out another episode of SIWYB Podcast! This episode features Kayla Bell and I'm so inspired by her creativity and go-getter-guts, starting so young on her founder journey! Be sure to follow and shop! Socials1. Shop Arrow & Phoenix: @arrowandphoenixswim 2. Follow Kayla: @iamkaylambell_ 3. LinkedIn: Kayla Bell

You can usually find her somewhere in a corner wearing her favorite Nike slides and a Laina Rauma sweatshirt + jogger combo with her eyes glued to her iPad sketching swimwear, or seeking inspiration while on her many travels for work or fun. Born + raised in New Orleans, she has a strong sense of culture and lets her travels inspire her and her collections. Her mission through Arrow + Phoenix is simple: To empower women, give back to the community and the planet we call home, and provide creative, affordable, and comfortable swimwear that celebrates diversity, sustainability, + positivity. A+P founder and designer, Kayla Bell, has always been a bikini lover and at just seven years old, she recognized her love of design and keen eye for detail that has since taken her places beyond her childhood aspirations. As a designer and strong advocate of body positivity + philanthropy, Kayla always knew that she wanted to build a brand that had meaning and intention. While in middle and high school, she found that as a petite young woman with a 38DDD bra cup size, locating a comfortable swimsuit top that wasn't made with someone else's grandmother in mind was nearly impossible, so she began creating her own. Arrow + Phoenix was created as a continuation of her goal to remove the stress of swimwear shopping for women of all shapes and sizes while offering fellow bikini lovers a product that makes the earth a better place. An essential detail of achieving this is ensuring all designs are tested first on her body rather than that of a fit model, the styles are derived from 90’s inspired timeless pieces she feels confident will compliment and flatter all female forms, as opposed to recreating size-based, trendy pieces that aren’t great fit wise on a multitude of women. A+P is designed especially for the woman on the go who is stylishly minimalistic, confident, and conscious of her purchases. Whether she’s swimming in the clear ocean waters of The Maldives, laughing with friends poolside, or enjoying a solo birthday trip to the illustrious Amangiri, she’s all smiles because she is comfortable, confident, + feels sexy in her own skin. MaryMac’s Doggie Retreat was founded by Courtney McWilliams in the Fall of 2015 due to Courtney needing a pet sitter for her dog, who suffered with severe separation anxiety. Courtney knew that she could not be the only one in the area who found it hard to find a trusted dog sitter who understood pet anxiety and depression. As a Social Worker, Courtney understood how separation anxiety and depression could play a major role in the lives of children; she found this to be true with dogs.

Courtney combined her years of experience as Social Worker with her love for dogs together to focus on reducing a dog’s anxiety and/or depression while their pet parents are away. She understands how hard it can be to find a sitter who will care for your dog as if it’s their own, therefore she focuses on giving each and every dog one on one attention.

Realizing that each dog is different, MaryMac’s Doggie Retreat does not utilize the one-size fits all approach. Mary Mac’s focus in reducing anxiety and depression through specialized enrichment activities that include keeping the dogs in smaller group settings, maintaining a 1 to 5 ratio, structured play time with best friends, individualized attention, and tailored activities designed to stimulate the mind while increasing confidence and self-control.

Since opening MaryMac's, Courtney continues to push the boundaries when it comes to engaging her audience and customers. She has since begun speaking to women worldwide about powers of networking and growing their business. She has been featured in The New Orleans Magazine, The Biz Mag, The Southern Jewish Life Mag, HerGrit Mag and a host of many other publications.

Dr. Pastor Mary Brown | Victory of Deliverance Outreach Ministry | www.pastormarybrown.com   This year's Mothers Day, I spent in New Orleans, LA because my mom insisted that the weather was too bad for me to drive to Lafayette, LA to see her on that day. The weather ended up not being so bad, but I didn't hesitate to go and see her because moms typically say one thing and really mean something else. Something else like - "So you're really just not going to dry down here in a storm to see your momma even though I slaved and worked my butt off all your life to make you happy?" lol   So, I went to see her as soon as I got the chance so that we could spend some time together, eat, and chat. My mother and I were born in different social and political climates to the point where sometimes, I just listen, because I can't relate haha... and in learning to "just listen", I continue to learn to also just accept.    It is important that in our relationships, those where we may not always agree on the this moral construct or that social obligation or this or that or...you get my point, it's more important to just listen and love and the common ground will find itself. My mom and I have done that all my life - found common ground - and been able to have fun while I sometimes took it too far with my lil' mouth lol...    In this conversation, my mom, Dr. Pastor Mary Brown, shares some stories, some advice, and just some of herself for you all. She's nothing new to me ..ha! ...which is why I had to share her with you! This allows me to see her in a new light and that is something very special for me to experience as well. I hope you all continue to love on your moms every chance you have. And to all of the moms in my life - Nanny, Ms. Gerri, my grandmothers (now deceased), my aunts, my mom friends, and you, if you're a mom - you are cherished and WE appreciate you!    With light, Arielle

We are talking one of our favorite things - MONEY! Let's learn how to not only make it, but keep it! Let's make schmoney moves! haha!

I don't know about you all, but ladies, I'm planning on doing my shmoney dance this year! It's time to pick up the big girl wallet and plan well for a year of financial success. In the last month, I've been really enjoying listening to the book, Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T. Harv Eker. It's AMAZING and since I don't get much time to sit still and read much these days, I love being able to listen on Audible while in the shower or driving around. I've also been writing my letters to the credit bureaus to correct information and hopefully delete some negative information too. Fingers crossed and #prayerhands. This year, I decided that it's also time for me to focus on my passion careers full time - songwriting and real estate.   I'm so excited but also a little jittery thinking about the change. I encourage you to BE the change FIRST and then once YOU change (mind, body, spirit), your environment natural must follow suit. I've decided that I can succeed so now I need to make the environmental changes to match my mindset. That's also why I was so thrilled to speak with Episode 16's guest, The Bankable Diva! Here's a clip from her site bio! Make sure to subscribe to my email list in the months of March and April for a chance to win a copy of her books!

At the end of the episode, we also discussed the John Besh debacle, which as you may know, he was instrumental in the start and journey of her career. Chef Syrena did not hesitate to give her thoughts on the sexual harassment allegations involving Besh's company and the claim made against him personally.

Chef Syrena, however, appears focused on taking care of her staff and continuing to help them become better everyday while making a living as cooks. Her name has made national news on several platforms given her amazing story of survival and MAJOR comeback after Hurricane Katrina. We had a great conversation for quite some time on everything under the sun, especially issues of interests on black community (everyone's community) issues. People may not think that 2 young women can go on chatting about racism for as long as we did, or throw in some Cardi B, Jay-Z, Insecure, and needed educational restructuring all in one sit down! But, they don't know Shanize yet apparently!    Her passion for social issues is real and rooted and she inspires me to stay abreast of what is going on. She is a community organizer as well as educator who works with youth all the way to "seasoned citizens" on not only rallying together but on creating plans and proposals to impact some minds, especially those of decision-makers in power positions.    We talk about women taking on burdens that do not belong to us, music that she keeps in rotation, respecting your elders, and why money is the real reason for the season. Don't miss this hilarious and heartfelt conversation! Airing on Say it With Your Breasts: Episode 5!
