They are learning more about the issues around them and ways to improve themselves as they approach their 30s. We had a great conversation with Lynette, a Marine Ecologist about sustainability in our waters. She studies the habitats of our sea life and how they live which was both eye-opening and informational. We learnt about the sea walls/ breakwaters which you often see on the beaches and the sea life that calls it their home. We also learn about what a researcher does, the challenges faced and how Lynette is helping our waters with her work through Our Singapore Reefs.
We love Singapore, yes we do. In celebrating our Nation’s 55th birthday, we discussed To Singapore With Love, a documentary about a group of people who claimed they were either imprisoned or forced into exile for their political beliefs. Besides chest-thumping, singing the National Day songs and waving our flags, these were people who loved their home as we did, only they expressed it in different ways. And they paid a heavy price for it.
Looking at Rachel’s filmography, it’s safe to say they would’ve seen a fair bit of the world through her lens. With her passion in cinematography, Rachel has captured images and stories across Europe, the Middle East and East Asia. She has also stood with Academy Award winners in 2016 when she received the top prize for student cinematographers at the distinguished Cameraimage festival. We had a great conversation and are certainly looking to her to blaze the way forward for the next generation of Singapore image makers (she insisted on the descriptor).

Mediacorp is at it (again). A Channel 8 drama, My Guardian Angel, had caused quite a stir recently with it’s depictions of LGBTQ themes in some of its episodes. We discuss this incident along with the efforts of some Singaporeans to repeal 377a, a long-standing colonial era law criminalising sex between two consenting male adults. We also give our take on how we can possibly move forward to fight the stigma of homosexuality in Singapore (Hint: It involves money).

In Part 2 of episode 3, we dived deeper into the power dynamics of race in Singapore through incidents faced during our National Service. With the ongoing #BlackLivesMatter movement intensifying the spotlight on our own discussions of race here in Singapore, we explored the roles of content creators, media gatekeepers, and members of the public, in this conversation.
