Nilan grew up in Massachusetts where he idolized Bobby Orr and dreamed of playing for the Boston Bruins. He played his youth hockey with the Parkway (West Roxbury, Massachusetts) team of the Greater Boston Youth Hockey League (GBYHL), sponsored by the Metropolitan District Commission (MDC). He later played college hockey for the Northeastern University Huskies, from 1976 to 1979, averaging 3.5 penalty minutes per game in his final collegiate season.
Nilan was selected 231st overall in the 1978 NHL Entry Draft, and was best known as a tough-guy for the Montreal Canadiens in the mid 1980s. One of only nine players in National Hockey League (NHL) history to have recorded more than 3,000 career penalty minutes, he holds the records of highest penalty minute average per game at 4.42 minutes per game, the most penalty minutes in a single playoff season at 141, as well as the record for most penalties in a single game; on March 31, 1991, when the Hartford Whalers visited Nilan's Bruins, Nilan was assessed a record ten penalties: six minors, two majors, one misconduct and one game misconduct, for a total of 42 penalty minutes.[1]
Seriously hobbled by repeated injuries, Nilan missed over two hundred games in his final five seasons, and would only play as many as 50 games twice in his final four seasons. He retired after the 1992 season. Highlights of his career include winning the Stanley Cup in 1986 with the Canadiens, being named to Team USA for the 1987 Canada Cup, and his controversial selection to the 1991 NHL All-Star Game by his then-coach Mike Milbury (Nilan missed the game with a broken left ankle), which led to changes in how players are selected for all-star games.

Dave McLlwain played junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Kitchener Rangers and North Bay Centennials. In his final year of junior he scored 46 goals and 119 points and represented Canada at the 1987 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships, famous for the Punch-up in Piestany brawl in the final game.
McLlwain was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the ninth round, 172nd overall in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft. During his NHL career, McLlwain bounced around from team to team frequently. He played for the Penguins (twice), the Winnipeg Jets, the New York Islanders (twice), the Buffalo Sabres, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Ottawa Senators. He played his final game in the NHL on March 29, 1997, for the Islanders against the Bruins, a game in which he recorded one assist.[1] He finished his NHL career with 100 goals and 107 assists in 501 games.[2]
McLlwain moved to Europe in 1997, playing for EV Landshut. He then played two seasons for SC Bern before joining Kölner Haie, where he ended his career in March 2009, after playing nine seasons with the club.

Dennis John Maruk (born November 17, 1955) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player of Ukrainian descent. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1975 to 1989, scoring a career-high 60 goals for the Washington Capitals in 1981–82.

Theo Fleury is a former professional ice hockey player. Fleury played for the Calgary Flames, Colorado Avalanche, New York Rangers, and Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL), Tappara of Finland's SM-liiga, and the Belfast Giants of the UK's Elite Ice Hockey League. He was drafted by the Flames in the 8th round, 166th overall, at the 1987 NHL Entry Draft, and played over 1,000 games in the NHL between 1989 and 2003. Won a Stanley Cup in 1989 with the Calgary Flames and a Olympic Gold Medal in Men's Hockey at the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. He also co-wrote two books called Playing with Fire and Conversations with a Rattlesnake.

William James Riley (born September 20, 1950) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player, and was the third black player in the National Hockey League (NHL).[1] He played for the Washington Capitals and Winnipeg Jets between 1974 and 1980. The rest of his career, which lasted from 1974 to 1984, was spent in the minor leagues.

Brian Cheeseman began his career in the WHL working for the Tri-City Americans during the 2019-10 season.
He was also a member of the Oil Kings staff who enjoyed WHL championships in 2012 and 2014, and a Memorial Cup championship in 2014.
The Mount Pearl, NL native served as an Athletic Therapist with Hockey Canada for the U-17 Pacific Team in 2012 and won gold at the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.
He was named Athletic Therapist of Team Canada for the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in Finland in 2016, and again in Montreal and Toronto in 2017 where the team captured a silver medal. IN 2018 Cheeseman captured a gold medal with Team Canada at the IIHF World Junior Championship in Buffalo.
Cheeseman was a member of the staff at the 2014 Top Prospects game, the 2016 CIBC Canada Russia Series and most recently was a member of Team Orr at the 2019 Sherwin Williams CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.
