The Wall Street Journal recently released research on how much money people say they need to be happy. It was interesting to see the general breakdown shown based on their current income and their needed income. Almost to a T, every single person "needed" a 50% income raise, no matter their income level.

Crazy to think that I am walking into the third decade of my life. Well in my short time on this floating space rock we call Earth, I have learned a few things that I believe have helped shaped me into the person I am today.

On Friday someone finally won the lottery Mega Millions jackpot. It was worth $1.28 Billion.
Yup with a Capital B!
Talk about life changing and altering money.
The odds of actually winning the lottery is 1 in 330 million. Not great but someone was going to win it eventually and it happened. Congrats to whoever it was, and if for some reason you happen to be reading this blog. I have one request "Can I hold a hundy?"
But the lottery got me thinking about dreams and how little we do of it. You see the lottery isn't about you actually winning. Rather it's the dream unlock it gives you. For a moment in time, it frees your mind to wonder and think about what you want your life to actually look and live like.

You have probably noticed that I kinda disappeared for the last couple of weeks.

Well, I took a break from creating content for the last couple of weeks. I needed a reprieve from all the things. So I used my birthday (July 3rd for the 2 of you who were wondering) as a jump off point to take the break. The last thing I released was "When is enough, ENOUGH?".
Now I am back but man it is rough trying to get the gears turning and the ball rolling again. This is like going on vacation from work for an extended period and then sitting at your desk for like an hour trying to remember your password.

Investing can feel very complicated but it does not have to be so complicated. It is actually pretty straight forward and simple. In this episode, we will breakdown everything you need to know to get you started on your investing journey.
Before Investing
Take care of your personal finance. SO that means handle your debt and get an emergency fund.

Select your brokerage platform. I personally use Fidelity because Customer Service and Security but you can use Vanguard, Charles Schwab.

How much do you need to be investing? Well if you base everything on the 4% rule which states that if you withdraw 4% if your portfolio you will never run out of money. So what you do is multiple your annual expenses by 25. Typical amount is needed for retirement is $1.2 million. Then to figure out how much you need to invest to get to that goal. Go to the savings calculator website.

What to invest in? Very simple a Target date index fund. Because if you are like me, you are def lazy and don't really wanna spend too much time thinking about your investments. So this is the easiest way to invest. Examples: Fidelity Freedom Index Funds, Vanguard Target Retirement Funds, Schwab Target Index Fund

Did you know that about 80% of Millionaires are first generation Millionaires. Oh and also about 62% of those millionaires worked a 9-5 job.
So unlike what we believe that most first gen Millionaires are either Youtubers or athletes or fill in the blank alluring lifestyle. That isn't the case.

Today it is mainly about earnings and the stock market. Stock market continues to crash due to the rise in daily Coronavirus cases. Tesla announced recording breaking earnings for the Third Quarter. Cryptocurrency is becoming more and more mainstream as PayPal adds it to its platform as a payment method. Quibi shuts down. Microsoft had a blow out third quarter but not all that shines is gold. Google, Twitter, and Facebook versus Congress talking Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act.

Today we are talking about how to select a business to invest in. You have to always remember a stock is not just a number on a screen but an actual company that is behind it. The stock will do as well as the company. So what are the things that you need to keep in mind when you look at the company.

- Find a wonderful business. This is a business that has MEANING to you.
-Do you believe in the things the company does?
-If the company was the only company you owned for the next 50 years, do you think it can provide for you and your family?
-Or will you be starving?
- Determine the worth of the business.
-I call this the Mamba Mentality of the business.
-Basically does the business have a MOAT or an edge, a competitive advantage?
-But another question you have to ask when you look at a business is, can you determine who the competition for the business will be? IS it actual businesses or regulation by government?
-What does the management team look like?
-A good business can be ruined by bad management
-Easy way to see management is how they do with the Return of Equity and Return on Invested Capital
-Also how do they manage the debt they have?
- Buy the business at a discount aka determine the Margin of Safety of the Business. Warren Buffet calls this buying a dollar for 50 cents.
-This is the hardest part because unlike going shopping for cars or shoes or phones. Stocks do not come with a sticker price.
-This is where you have to determine the value of the business.
-This is the part where patience comes into play. Are you willing to wait until the right opportunity comes around to buy into that business?

Money - but not in the sense you think. Getting your money to work for you. Very easy decision for this either Make more or Spend less. Money is not everything but it is a very important tool.

Time - the powerful and important part of it. Patience is key. Think in terms of exponential.

80-20 rule states 80% of results come from 20% of efforts but the opposite is also true. This applies to money as well. Sometimes we buy things to try and get the full 100% but in reality are money isn't going as far anymore and you begin to get to the stages of diminishing returns.

Cash flow is King. And it's greater than having an asset that produces nothing. If an asset begins to cost you more than it brings in. Then it's a liability and no longer an asset

A House is not always an asset. Count the cost. A lot of people buy more house than they can afford and end up being House poor. Just because the bank says you can afford a certain size loan does not mean you have to take that loan. Just make sure you are balancing your opportunity cost versus owning a home.

Always pay yourself first. In this I mean ensure you are saving money before you spurge all your income. Always remove money for savings before you start buying stuff.

Disciple = Freedom. I know it sounds like an oxymoronic statement but truly the moment you learn to discipline yourself in areas of your life that you want to enjoy more. The more you really get to enjoy your life.

It is okay to spend money. Just be aware when you do spend the money. Don't spend money without thinking about it. I spend money even though I'm more frugal than most people but there are things that I am willing to spend money on.

Bonus Giving is one of the most freeing things that you can do in your life. It gives you a sense of gratitude which allows you to actually look at life from a totally different point of view. When you spend less time worrying about holding on to your money, you actually are able to find more ways to make more money.

The most expensive holiday for a lot of us is Christmas. We spend the most amount on money and I would like to say it's on others but we selfish. It is estimated by a study by Gallup that we will spend about $1 trillion he's with a T on Christmas this year. With each consumer spending about $1000. https://bit.ly/3jq40Y3
That's a lot of money. So how exactly do you save up to prepare for spending this amount of money. Pressumaly for others but really on ourselves.

Write down the names of each person you are going to be giving a gift.

Decide how much money you are going to spend on each of those people.

Start setting aside money for it.

Start looking for deals on the items you will buy for each person.
The thing is the earlier you start thinking about this. The better and easier it will be for you when December rolls on through.
Oh and I need to add this.
Bonus: Do not hold yourself to some arbitrary standard of gift for people. Give what you can afford to give. Don't go into debt because you want to be nice or rather appear to be nice. Those who you love and love you will put more importance on you thinking about them than on the actual item itself. However, don't be selfish and give trash because you trying to buy yourself useless stuff that you don't need.
Also if you really can't afford to buy anything then make stuff. I personally appreciate hand made gifts a whole lot more than bought except in some cases. But in general knowing someone took the time to create something means the world to me.

I have been seeing a lot ADS recently from random people on YouTube, talking about how they have some secret that will make a millionaire by next year and all I have to do is pay them a fee to learn the tricks to the trade. After seeing about 100 hundred if not more of people showing me their fancy houses and fancy cars, I got ticked off and this podcast episode was born. In this episode, we are talking about how investing is not going to make you RICH overnight. Investing is not about a quick turn around but a consistent pattern over the long term.
Here are three reasons Investing will not make you rich overnight:
- You need some form of starting capital to even start investing, which means you gotta save money first.
- The general returns are not that great. The S&P 500 has had an annual return of about 8-10% in the last 90 years meaning if you invested $10,000 you will make $800.
- Let's be honest with ourselves, we kinda SUCK at investing and picking stocks.

In this episode, I'm not gonna talk about compound interest in the sense of how you can be a millionaire by the time you retire if you saved $300 every month into a Roth IRA with a Target Date Index Fund with an annual return if about 8%.
Albert Einstein called compound interest the greatest force in the world. The same guy who discovered and developed the theory if relativity. One of the pillars of modern physics. This got me thinking why is compound interest so powerful and it came down to one simple factor, TIME and REPETITION.
An easy way to think of this is like this. Before any one of us could read a single book, first we had to understand the alphabet. We had to know what letters were and what each shape meant. After that, we had to understand words. So we were thought and we learnt what I combined with S meant. Then that grew into us learning three letter words like ARE. From there we learned about sentences and how to put together a sentence. We started with short sentences like "My name is Kelechi Iwuaba". Then we learned about multiple sentences combined making a paragraph. Then we learned about punctuations and how that changes the meaning of a sentence. With all of these pieces of knowledge combined we get to the point where we can read an entire book.
This is Compound Interest at its finest. This is the same thing in our lives. Every skill every ability anything will take a compounding effect to get us to our goal. But the thing about compound interest is it doesn't care whether the outcome is good or bad for us. It works both ways. For good habits like reading the more you read the better and faster you get info out of it. For bad habits like smoking the more you smoke the more you want to smoke.
It's the same in finance, good compound is with investing like the example earlier. It can work to your benefit or it can work to your destruction like with debt.
At the end of the day, we all have to ask ourselves. What am I choosing to compound in my life?

In this video, I breakdown a list of 20 things that I saw from Dave Ramsey on how to practically save money. I go through and talk through if it is too extreme or on point and we should strive to do.

- Stay away from Debt
- Cut grocery bill. Stay away from the aisles in stores. Everything you need is on the exterior of most stores.
- Cancel automatic subscriptions and memberships
- Name Brands NEED to go BYE BYE
- Cancel your cable bill
- Save automatically, pay yourself first whenever you get a pay check
- When you get extra unexpected money, put it towards your big goals. Do not see it as free money
- Reduce your power bill by going the extra step to learn about your power usage and ways to cut it down
- Unsubscribe from discount emails that are created to create a feeling of FOMO
- How much are you paying for insurance? Maybe shop around for a new insurance
- Eat at home more often
- Always ask for a discount and use coupons when you have it. Everyone else be ignored
- Use your employer's 401(k)
- Maybe change your cell phone bill if it is way too high
- Try a spending freeze rather than just swiping your card all the time
- Try to DIY somethings, Youtube is a GREAT teacher
- Coffee you already know this one
- Libraries will always have free books. Check here for books you do not need to keep
- Staycation over Vacations
- Try a minimalist life and sell all the clutter

Back with the regularly scheduled programming. In this episode, we talk about consistent simple steps that we should take in order to build wealth.

Get an Emergency Fund. Open a high interest savings account with a bank like Ally or Marcus or Simple or so many other internet banks. Where you can literally park some money. Now it's not fancy but the peace of mind you get from this will be mind blowing. In the US, 59% of people cannot cover an emergency expense of under $1000. This is to protect you from that unfortunate event happening.

Invest in yourself. Get a skill or start a business or get a certification in something. Find a way to leverage yourself into something you love to do cause this will fuel you to do more. This will also provide you with another source of revenue to continue to build wealth

Pay off loans that have a higher than 4% interest rate on it. Aka Credit cards, car loans student loans, etc. Now I know this doesn't make much sense but when you compare the rate of return in investing of about 8% on a good year versus a credit car that continues to rack up at more than 15%. You start realizing one makes more sense to do. Plus with investing you aren't even guaranteed that rate if return. At least you can guarantee that you are getting back that 4% interest or higher.

Now Otherwise, open a Roth IRA account and invest in Index Funds. Before we get into what to invest in a quick caveat if you have a job where they offer a 401(k) match. Do that first. Max this option out first. Because this is the easiest way to double your money. Depending on what your company offers it can be anywhere from 50¢ to the $1 for $1 match. So before anything else do this. Okay back to the IRA. I advice most people to invest in something like a Target Date Index Fund. This is a mutual fund that is designed to grow and change as you change. Basically going from all risk assets to less risky assets as you get older. But if you don't like this and want more control then get ETFs that tracks the market. Start with one that track the S&P 500 like SPLG or Total Market like VTI. Then I would also add something that tracks the international market like VXUS.

If you can, get a HSA account. This is a Health Savings Account that can also be used as an additional IRA to invest some more. This is also tax free growth.

If you can't open a HSA, I say open a 529 Savings account for your kids. And you can begin teaching them about saving and investing etc.

Now I need to say this. None of these things in and of themselves will make you rich overnight. Just won't happen. There is no real shortcut to turn $1000 to $100,000. The only way to speed up the process is to invest more and save more.

1. Target Date Index Fund
- Simple way to find yours: Brokerage Name + Target Date Index Fund + Year (Birth Year + 60)
- These are managed by a Fund Manager that adjusts the risk of the account as you grow older. More of your fund will move away from equities into bonds are you get older to protect you as you get towards retirement
- Examples are: Fidelity Freedom Index Fund, Vanguard Target Date Fund, Schwab Target Date Index Fund
- Make Sure Expense Ratio is below 0.2%
- Turnover ratio no higher than 25%
- Index Fund portfolio should have something similar to the following: Total Market Index Fund, Total Emerging/International Market Index Fund, Total Bond Index Fund (maybe cash).
2. ETF variation of Target Date Index Fund
- Basically instead of a Fund that is controlled by a Fund Manager, you will be in charge of everything that happens to the portfolio
- Three main ETFs that you need to have in that portfolio: A Total Market ETF, An Emerging/International Market ETF, and a Total Bond ETF
- For these ETFs ensure that the Expense Ratio is less than 0.1% for each ETF
- Examples of ETFs to select using Vanguard:
- VTSAX - Vanguard Total Marker ETF
- VXUS - Vanguard Total Emerging Market ETF
- BND - Vanguard Total Bond ETF

- Make a Goal
-"You can't hit a target that you can't see, and you cannot see a target you do not have" Zig Ziglar
-Have a big goal that you want for your life. It can be anything, it's your goal.
-So it might be to buy a house or buy a car or travel or be financially independent or retire early or giving.
-However, sometimes having a big goal can be scary. So the next thing to do with that goal is to break down to bite sized steps.
-Set up milestones that you want to hit in 10 years, then make it 5 years, then make it 1 year, then make it 6 months, then make it 1 month, then one week.
-"A goal without a deadline is just a dream" Robert Herjavec
-Those milestones can become deadlines to help push you to reach your goals.
-Finally review your goals regularly to see if you are progressing in the right direction.
- Track your expenses
-"If you don't know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else" Yogi Berra
-At least for one month. See where all your money is going.
-Just pay attention to how you use money
-At the end of the month begin to categorize your spending
-Separate essentials from non-essential
- Identify your spending patterns
-Payday Euphoria
-Instant Gratification
-Spending leaks
-Emotional Spending
-Found money
-Impulse Purchase
-Try waiting 72 hours before deciding to buy something
- Subtract your spending from your take home pay
-Before you pay for everything with a credit card, ask these two questions

-Average Interest on credit card is 18%. For every dollar you leave on your credit card it earns 18 cents of interest.

SO President Trump decided to take things into his own hands and create an entire Stimulus Package without Congress. Which technically he cannot do but either way he passed 3 Memorandums and 1 Executive Order to try to hit on all the parts of the Stimulus Package deemed important. However, the question is did this actually do anything at all to help people or was it just for show to make him look good. We go deeper on all the memorandums and executive orders. Tesla also announced a Stock Split that will happen at the end of August which will be awesome to see. So money can be complicated. OR rather we can make money a lot more complicated than it needs to be. We add so many layers to the very basic understanding of how to use our money and make it work for our benefits. In this episode, I break down exactly how to I view money that I make. Whether it be from a paycheck or a gift that I receive or a stimulus check. Whatever money I get, I think through this process to determine how to use that money.
Money we spend falls into 3 different categories:
- Paying for our living Expenses and Debt
- Saving and Investing - I see it as paying myself
- Spending on frivolous things and experiences
If you really think about it, every single thing you spend money on falls into one of these three categories.
So what and how do I spend my money, I use the process below to determine where I can spend my money. Before even getting to this point, I do a budget to see the amount I need for my bills and expenditures. After this I run through this list for the leftover and determine where it will be used.
- Save in an Emergency Fund (At least have $1000)
- Pay Debt (If I have any) especially high interest debt, credit card, auto loans etc
- Invest in my retirement fund and brokerage account (This is you paying yourself and buying assets that will grow)
- Use the leftover for whatever I want this is discretionary spending so eating out or buying a new phone, laptop, shoes, clothes etc.

TikTok continues to be in the news because it is on the verge of being banned in the US. Microsoft might just be its savior by buying and acquiring its services. Apple reports its 2nd Quarter Earnings and well it was AMAZINGLY good. They also announced a 4-1 stock split for the shares of Apple. Disney followed up with abysmal earnings report but has some good news with its streaming service Disney+ continues to grow. After the Antitrust Hearing of Apple, Amazon, Google, and Facebook. I got thinking about how much we LOVE convenience but then complain about how the services we love is taking so much from us like our privacy and data. But then I started thinking about how convenience has gotten in the way of us progressing in other parts of our lives like:
Spiritual
-Praying
-Fasting
-Spending time in the Word Daily (Usually for consistency you end having to wake up earlier so nothing interferes)
Physically
-Eating Healthy (Gotta cook more)
-Exercise of some sort (time just seems to always been moving)
Financially
-Making a budget (so can't just automate all payments)
-Saving (emergencies always showing up)
-Investing for future
-Giving
Emotionally
-Spending time with others (being vulnerable YUCK)
-Spending time alone (reflecting)
Knowledge Wisdom (Not Sure what to call it)
-Reading books articles etc
-Listening to Others (so probs less entertainment more classes)

In today's podcast, we discuss the best way to select the right stock for your portfolio. It can be a lot trying to determine the right stocks to add to your portfolio. Some people say invest in Penny Stocks. Some people say Growth Stocks is the way to go. Some people say Dividend Stocks are the best thing you can have. So many options and it can be confusing. Today, I break down the best way to analyze and determine the best choice for you. However, we have to start with the idea that stocks are business and not just numbers on a screen. Therefore to know the best option you must know about the business. The analysis of the company to understand it is called Fundamental Analysis. It has two parts: Qualitative and Quantitative
The easiest way to understand Qualitative Analysis is that this is the thing that makes a company special. It is the Mamba Mentality of the company. It is the sauce within the Krusty Krab burger that makes it dominate. Thing that makes the business special. On the other hand Quantitative Analysis is simple the numbers of the company. The financials, the dollars and cents of the company.
I will be focusing on the Qualitative Aspect of the business, with three questions:
Question 1: Do you understand the business?
Question 2: Does the business have a competitive advantage?
