“We don’t rise to the level of our goals, we fall to the level of our systems” – James Clear. A lot of us believe that once you set the goals, you’re good to go, but if you don’t set your systems properly and follow them. You’ll find yourself not making progress sooner than you think.

The post This Is What’s Holding You Back From Your Goals first appeared on Rion Robinson.

The best way to simplify is just to start with the number 0. Steve Jobs and his designers is one of the best examples of how keeping it simple can mean HUGE success. We tend to overcomplicate things and it’s real easy to get incredibly overwhelmed, if you’re able to take a breath and just break things down to their simplest components. Life will be a lot easier and you’ll be able to focus on what you need to do to be successful. Scripture Referenced:

Pride will isolate you and prevent you from reaching your goals. Foster a sense of humility that will allow you to absorb the necessary information you need to either shift your perspective or elevate your current self to the next step is. Otherwise your pride will kill most opportunities than it’ll give you.

By being Prideful, you’re essentially saying “I know more than God” and it is slowly killing your goals and potential. Humility is the true path to growth and to allow God to guide your path instead of taking it up on yourself is how we, as followers of God, can reach the true potential in our lives.

With the New Years, comes the New Year Resolutions. In theory these are great, but there's a catch to them. You have to plan out how you want to achieve those resolutions. A lot of people don't put intentionality on how they will be achieving their goals and without that intentionality, the whole thing kind of falls apart.

You can't just say you want to do or be something, you have to put in the work and pay the cost of acquiring that thing or version of yourself.

That's why we measure twice and cut once. We make sure we have our goals listed and plan out how we'll achieve those goals and then we cut. Once.

I thought I would end the CTRL+Alt+DEL series last episode but then something occurred to me. The combination of those three buttons are used to close out, or reboot the systems and processes on your computers.

And rebooting allows your computer to properly allocate resources and make sure to close out the things that are dragging your systems down. People need that too, every time that we grow or we "reboot" even though at the core we're the same person, we're allowing our systems (relationships) to reassess how everything is working and make sure that we're closing out things that are slowing us down or harming our progress.

We need to reboot. As potentially painful as it is, without that crucial part in the process we'll eventually stagnate.

Take control of your life, find the alternate routes that can benefit you, Delete the things that are working against you and reboot to make it all stick.

Bless your morning with this podcast as we discuss how to live a life refreshed.

Bless your morning with this pod as we discuss the final part of our CTRL+ALT+DEL. Learning when to delete hard feelings after a disagreement is essential to living a comfortable and Godly life.

God says you've to forgive 7 times 77, that's a lot of forgiveness but the people around deserve it... And so do you. Erasing those emotional debts, when you feel that people have wronged you and you hold that negativity in your heart it affects way more than you think.

Everything from your emotional well being to the healthiness of your relationships suffers. Erase and start anew, it'll feel good.

To keep with the theme of our last episode, fear and response, let's talk about one of the most common reasons we're scared of growth. The Change Curve.

The Change Curve is what happens when a challenge presents itself, at first it is ridiculously hard, once you're over the initial challenge change occurs, maybe after mourning the version of you had to let go in order to change. You grow very quickly.

You experience it in almost any situation, whether you're trying to live a lean life physically, emotionally or spiritually. Anything you want to achieve requires some change of self.

Bless your morning with this pod as we discuss The Change Curve and what it means to grow. (and also introduce next week's guest.)

Welcome to part four of our series about what it looks like to live a lean life! Our emotions can get the best of us and an unhealthy emotional mindset can greatly affect our growth and lead us astray.

Our feelings are a huge part of our lived experiences and we have to learn how to manage those in order for us to have control of them and not be dragged down by the weight of unmanaged and untamed emotional reactions. In other words, we live a lean emotional life.

Part 3 of our "Living a Lean Life" Series, today we're talking about the mentality of living a lean life and how we're likely to revert back to filling our lives with the unnecessary baggage if we're not careful to not slip back into the mentality of an "Unlean" life.

If we are not ready to internalize the concept of a lean life, it might not take and we'll be victims of our old ways again.

The Story of the Young Rich man says that it is easier for a camel to walk through the eye of a needle than a rich man enter the gates of heaven.

While that is a great lesson in humility and letting go of your riches for the betterment of the community around you, it can also provide great insight into the emotional riches or weight that we carry. Sometimes in order to live a lean life and grow, we need to learn that we're not only hoarding materialistic things, but also experiences and trauma.

In order for us to experience all that God has to offer, we have to make ourselves lean and live a life that is not held back by the weight of our experiences, good or bad holding us back.

Bless your morn with this podcast as we discuss what it means to live a lean life.

In life, the more we are exposed to situations and obstacles. We have two real options. Evolve, which is to say adapt and change yourself or your point of view in some way to overcome said obstacle, or repeat your failures over and over again.

Welcome back to another episode of Life Refreshed, today we're going to continue exploring the power of exposure.

Would you rather live a stewarded life or life lived purposelessly?

That's the pain that comes with knowledge. In ignorance one can absolve themselves from responsibility, but once something is learned it is our responsibility to act upon it.

Knowing is hard, knowing means you have to take accountability. And like Neo, sometimes knowing means having to face something painful whether you want to or not.

One of the best ways to shatter your ego is to surrender yourself to the person you're trying to serve is surrendering your will to theirs while you're serving them.

This is especially important while we're serving God, if we're unwilling or unable to surrender our wills to his, like Saul did, our ego will disallow us from trusting him and reaping the greatness that he can impart into our lives.

This week we're diving into the Ego, where our sense of identity comes from. Ego is incredibly important to form your personality and who you are but it will inevitably lead you astray.

When you're operating under Ego, there is no real empathy. It's all disconnected attempts at sympathy because you'll think you'll know better than everybody around you, and what people need better than they do.

Bless your morning with this pod and let's talk about how and why it's important to shatter your Ego with humility.

Referenced Scripture:

  • Proverbs 16:18

Sympathy may feel like a method of connecting to the humans around you, but it truly isn't. Unlike empathy, sympathy often creates a level of separation between you and the person struggling.

"Sympathy is a way to stay out of touch with our own emotions and make our connections transactional."

Brené BrownSympathy is not inherently problematic, but it often ends up casting judgement on the person we're sympathizing with. Bless your morning with this pod and let's talk about what sympathy separation is and why it can help your relationships to do empathetical work in place of sympathy.

Last week we talked about the "Both/and" mentality and the advantages of not limiting your identity. Today we're talking about the self-sabotage of the "Either/or" mentality.

Oftentimes we hold ourselves back in order to make identity easier to communicate or categorize without realizing how much it's affecting our personal growth as well as our growth in the path of God.

Bless your morning with this pod and challenge the fixed mindset so many of us are trapped in.

True greatness exists in the grey areas of life. We as a culture should learn to embrace the "Both/and" mentality instead of the Zero-sum approach that has become commonplace in today's culture. In this episode we discuss the importance of the "Both/and" mentality and how it can bring you closer to a relationship with God.

What keeps us from being completely real with one another? During the COVID pandemic, I have learned quite a bit about what is required for an authentic refreshing of one's life, starting with mine.

“We don’t like feeling weak and we don’t like feeling vulnerable. It’s uncomfortable, it’s scary, and revealing our weaknesses is risky because not everyone is going to accept them.”

Exercise: Think of the most vulnerable places in your heart - the weak spots and deep wounds that you carry and trigger you. Reframe your response by being willing to be vulnerable.
