intelligent design theory (Mike Rinehart) got his start in the electronic music labs of the University of Tennessee. Creating experimental music by designing sounds on the various synthesizers was the order of the day. Most work was done on the Ensoniq VFXsd. It was one of the first "all in one" workstation keyboards with an on board sequencer. The other keyboard used in sound design was the Kawai K5 and it's rack mountable twin the Kawai K5m. Mike also had the opportunity to install the first ever hard disk recording system in the UT music labs.

Mike soon found that sequencing actual pitched sounds was more fun the doing just experimental music. It was then he got his first music PC. A 386 DX40 with something of the magnitude of 2 megs of RAM and a 40 meg hard disk. Armed with a Roland U-20 and a copy of Cakewalk for DOS (yes, you read that right) he started sequencing synthy, poppy, leftover from the eighties grooves.

Music school had taken its toll and after a near ten year hiatus, an energized Mike started writing music again. New equipment and new software and a new outlook on life has inspired him to get back to his roots and flex all the music muscle that had weakened due to non-use.
