Howdy folks! Well the end of a lovely vacation week is here. Just today and the weekend and then back to work. No complaints with this one. It was a very lovely and productive week off. Enjoy!
Howdy folks! Well, I'm back on the exercise (ie running) routine again. It's been a hot minute so I decided to start off with some Gwining. What's Gwining? Listen and find out. Enjoy!
Howdy! Well, I'm back again for another episode. I'm also back from my 40th high school reunion. Much to discuss. Enjoy!
Howdy all you soon to be goat generalists! I have a story to tell about one of my goats and it won't cost a lot of doe. LOL! Enjoy!
Howdy folks! I know this is a quick turnaround but I had an interesting thing happen overnight. You see, I woke up and....you really didn't think I was going to spoil the surprise, did you? Enjoy!
Some days you have to get creative with the title. Other days The Boss just hands you one. No, it's not as bad as all that but it would be a crying shame to waste such a good Springsteen song title. It is somewhat appropriate, after all. Enjoy.
Howdy folks! Remember what I was saying about not being able to go more than three months without something breaking? Well, I'm back and its my back. Sigh. Enjoy!
Howdy folks! Time for another episode. Today's episode comes with air the is thick enough to be considered an object. It's the hot sultry stuff that feels like a warm blanket as soon as you walk outside. Not my favorite running weather. Still, it beats snow. Enjoy!
Two heads are better than one so two days worth of recording should be better than one as well. Enjoy!
Ok folks the fates have given me time for the extra post production so stereo hand mike it is. Enjoy!
This is an apology podcast for the absolutely atrocious audio in the recording this morning.
Only had a lot of rain last evening. Some of that rain is still hanging in the air this morning as I record this. I have a few more updates for you. Enjoy!
Took you on a 3-mile run this morning. This episode comes with the usual banter and as a special surprise to Amish drive-bys.
Welcome folks to The unofficial start of Summer here in the United States. Why don't we chat about that while I run??
Yes folks, this isn't just another check in. It's a phoenix rising from the ashes....at a 30:30 ratio!
Fresh oil and chips. Community Aid. Jerkwad thinning. What do they have in common? Listen and find out.
Just a brief recording to make sure there's anybody still out there since I haven't put up an episode since March. Enjoy!
That's right, you heard me. I'm a Naidirolf. Don't what that is? I can explain it to you in about 18 minutes. Enjoy!
Howdy folks! I'm back and I have an update for you. I've been a bit busy the past few weeks so my time to record has been slim to none and ol' Slim left town. I'll get to that in the episode though so enjoy!
Howdy folks! Well with this polar blast I suppose this episode was bound to happen. Enjoy!
Howdy folks! Something happened today that has me shouting sun, sun, sun here it comes! One of the waypoints I look forward to that lets me know winter is half over happened today! I feel the ice is slowly melting! Enjoy!
Howdy Folks! This episode I talk about resolutions. I will also discuss my resolutions. I have a new one to add. Make sure you don't name your source tape the same as the episode and upload the wrong one.....that doesn't include the show music. Whoops! Fixed now. Enjoy!
.
Howdy folks! It time for another episode before the clock strikes 2024! That is as long as you live in North or South America. At this time the rest of the world has already rung in the new year. Enjoy!
Hello! Welcome to a new podcast! Ok, a reimagined podcast. I first want to thank my small, but dedicated, group of listeners. The purpose of these changes is to make this show more interesting for the audience I already have as well as to try to expand that audience. Hopefully I've done that and will continue to do that.
I've revamped the entire show. The new pic is from a trip to St Augustine, Florida in October of 2020. The intro/outro music is from Rossini (The Thieving Magpie).
Enjoy!
Howdy! Well as the title states, I'm going to chat more about the Coros beta testing I am currently involved in. It won't be all Coros, I do have some other topics, but I will get into some more details that I haven't so far. Enjoy!
This episode is coming from a placeI'm in at least twice a day. My barn. Today I update you with the help of a couple of horses, several goats and a llama. Enjoy!
Welcome back! Before you ask, yes this is a throwaway title. I can assure you there are no rhinoceri in this episode nor will you hear any banter about The Mount Rushmore State. Just an 8 K run on a Saturday (5 miles for those that speak Imperial units). Enjoy!
Welcome back! This is the second show from my backlog. This was recorded on Thursday, December 7th. Enjoy!
Hey folks! So I've compiled a but of a backlog of shows. This one was recorded on Wednesday, December 6th. Winter weather has made its appearance in south central PA. Enjoy!
Well as promised it's time for "the rest of the story" from the Savannah River Bridge Run. I also have an unexpected brief review of the Coros Heart Rate Monitor. I'll do a more in depth review of the heart rate monitor once I've had it longer but it is definitely a part of this story in a most unexpected way. Enjoy!
No good deal ever goes unnoticed.
Holidays are fun! They are a time of wonder, a time of joy and a time of surprises. You just never know. This year was no different. Enjoy!
Congratuations! You've made it to the end! This is the final segment in JD and Anthony's 2 hr run. Enjoy!
Hello again! Well once again I don't have an obvious title for this episode so I'm going with a song title. Today I'm going with a 1974 song from Paul McCartney and Wings. It was released as a single and I don't think appears on any studio album.
Fun trivia: This song features drummer Jeff Britton who was replaced by Joe English on the next studio album. Joe English, btw, was American. Life is funny if you pay attention.
Welcome my son....to the machine. Ok maybe not "the machine" but to the second part of JD and Anthony's 2 hr run. Enjoy!
...and any fool knows a dog needs a home...a shelter...from pigs on the wing.
And now the first installment of my 2 hr run with my buddy Anthony...aka the McCannic. There will be some salty words every so often so careful around the kiddos. Enjoy!
Today I'm taking you on a sunny Sunday Shakeout run. I have an announcement about the next three episodes you won't want to miss. Enjoy!
It's fair to say where I live is agricultural. It's also fair to say that my house is in a section of residential homes. They all measure their property in terms of acres rather than fractions of acres but residential homes nonetheless. We're not quite full on agricultural but we're also not suburbia so I guess that makes us agriburbia?
This episode is more discussion, or possibly the same discussion, about why I am now measuring my runs using the metric system. Also some more chat about my use of a heart rate based system for training. Enjoy!
Here comes the Sun King
Here comes the Sun King
Everybody's listening
Everybody press play
Yesterday. I recorded this on Wed-nes-day. I'll stop rhyming now, so just hit play. Oh I believe in yesterday.
It's not every day you come across a collection of cement prefab wall segments arrayed in a circle. Just one of the interesting things to chat about in this episode. Enjoy!
For the first time since the spring, it is now long sleeve weather. There's a definite "fall feeling" in the air. Time for a run and a longer show. Enjoy!
Welcome to the first check in of August 2023! Lots of stuff to chat about so this will be a longer episode.
Well we are in the dog days of summer and it's definitely going to be a ruff one. Sorry I couldn't resist the pun. Heat indexes into the three digit realm the next couple of days.
Hello!
A Happy Canada Day to my friends to the north and a Happy Idenpendence Day to my friends in The States! Just a quick...ok, not so quick...check in.
Well, I'm officially into my summer schedule. Have a quick chat for you on what's been going on at Shamrock Hill Farm as well as some general updates.
This is my yearly Memorial Day episode. Enjoy and thank you to all who have served and fallen in order to preserve the freedom that I have.
Hello again! I have a couple of topics in this episode. So without any further ado let's get to the good stuff!
Hey Folks! It's been a little bit since I last posted something here. I've had this "other podcast" taking up my time. That's not a complaint though. Before you ask, yes. I did it again. I think from now on when I don't have an obvious title I'm just going to choose a random song title. Sorry, no monkeys are featured in this episode. Thanks for the download! Time to catch up on what's been going on since we last chatted. Enjoy!
Howdy! Sorry to disappoint you but the title is of the throwaway variety. I couldn't think of a suitable title that had to do with the content so I chose an old Pink Floyd song title instead. I don't remember what album it was from but I think it was Ummagumma. I seem to remember that album had several odd song titles. Anyway, there is a big announcement at the end of this episode so listen closely. Enjoy!
Well it's finally happened. I went for a long run in 2023. It's been a bit since I've been able to do this but it felt great to get out there. In fact, let me tell you all about it! Enjoy.
Howdy! We'll I'm back and I have a new health update. I think you are going to like what you "hear". I can't "amplify" this point any more. I know it "sounds" too good to be true so I'll quit with the puns and get on with the episode. Enjoy!
Hello again! I have a bunch of news to share in this episode. Stay until the end because there is an extra update you won't want to miss. Enjoy and 73!
Another Lenten season is approaching and I wanted to share my plans for this Lent. I'm turning my cellphone into a phone.
Well this health update thing seems to come fast and furious these days. But on the plus side the weather is fantastic!
Well not the podcast I wanted to make but it is what it is. I will get by. I will survive.
Once again we have another winter storm with a goofy name. No offense intended to any Elliot's out there. Just not a name one expects a winter storm to be called. Then again, naming winter storms is kind of dumb anyway so I suppose the name chosen is the lesser issue. Anyway, here's my thoughts (random as they may be) on winter storm Elliot and an update on my training and all things me. Enjoy and Merry Christmas!
I learned a life lesson from a recent Magic Mile. I thought it be helpful to share with you.
Quick chat about my experience in returning back to the office after a long pandemic hiatus.
Since this is my only podcast, I am now back to basics. Anything I wish to talk about will now be on this podcast. Get used to hearing a wide range of topics on this and upcoming episodes. Enjoy!
Was the title not clear enough for you? Just kidding. Random reflections on a long Sunday walk.
In order to the better treat this headache that I have been dealing with for more days than I care to mention I’m going to be taking the month of August off of podcasting. I will see you in September!
Well this summer has certainly had its share of challenges but it’s always best to stay positive. It’s not often easy, but it’s always best.
Wild turkeys heard this morning and the verdict is in on Twitter. Plus ça change plus c’est la même chose.
Got a nice surprise from work when all of my classes were canceled. Just some random thoughts on a random quiet morning.
Woke up with The Doors “Riders on the storm” in my head. Thought I’d share. And for extra credit, if you’re on social media say something nice about someone today.
Starting my week to the sound fire engine sirens in the distance. I hope you’re having a better week than whoever is being responded to in my local area.
Some thoughts about the joys of spring, the rebirth of Twitter (maybe) and other fun topics.
A quick, or not so quick, discussion of the enjoyment of familiar things returning again
Some thoughts about this year‘s Boston Marathon and then of course some more thoughts about our crazy weather and why you need to come to Bird in Hand this year.
Thoughts on the wait and then finally seeing Steve Hackett after a 2 1/2 year hiatus thanks to Covid.
A short discussion about the Red Cross app Emergency and why I think everyone should have this on their phone.
A chicken from the completely frosty 13° day five days away from the beginning of April.
Just a midmonth check in to remember Dr. Martin Luther King. Also the offer some encouragement in case you’ve already fallen off the resolution wagon. By the way, since I can’t remember how many years I’ve done this podcast I am numbering the season this year by the last two digits in the year. Thus that makes this year season 22.
OK this may be a surprise for you but this show is actually about how to keep a New Year’s resolution. The title probably threw you off. Enjoy!
Just a quick check in from the interior of our barn. Too darn windy again to record outside. Enjoy!
Hey folks! This episode is about lessons learned from a recent health challenge. If I have completed my mission with this episode, I will have given you a highly effective strategy on how to deal with challenges when they arrive in your own life. Cheers!
Well it’s time for my biannual discussion of changing the clocks again. If the statistics are correct most if you fall on either one side or the other of this issue. Most of you also agree that we should pick a time zone and stop shifting it twice a year. Regardless of which side you’re on, I have a helpful pro tip on how to deal with this twice a year time change. I hope you find it helpful.
Another amazing workout and another work out that I wouldn’t believe if I hadn’t actually done it.
Just a few thoughts on a walk on Columbus Day 2021…. Columbus, who his real name was Cristobal Colon.
After a week that definitely felt like fall late summer weather has returned and with it elevated dewpoints. Because it’s all about the dewpoint.
Started re-reading the Hansons distance project training plan and considering shifting to this training plan for my next marathon.
Once again another life update. In this update though I have a shout out to a rather inspiring friend of my named Dave who just successfully completed a 100K run in the heat. But it gets better. Yes, you'll have to listen to find out. Enjoy!
Just a quick show about a new brand of supplements for runners that I thought you might enjoy hearing about.
Greetings! Just a quick submission on my 21st wedding anniversary and day six of my vacation.
I once again add swimming to my workout routine. It’s very different from running. It’s a good low impact way to pull in the parts of your body that you don’t use very much when you’re running though.
Dealing with post long holiday weekend date recognition. Also an update on my training and planning for the Bird in Hand half marathon. And of course we talk about the weather!
Did some more early morning musing on a walk with Reagan. After getting through a four day extreme heat wave I am a little bit of a cranky pants this morning. It’s nothing personal west coast, Nevada, South Dakota and Illinois. Happy Fourth of July and joyeux le jour du Canada!
Break out your cardigan, your goatee and your studious glasses...this one’s a bit deep.
Went for a walk with Reagan this morning and thought I would record the sounds of the 17 year cicadas for you. In addition, since I already have your attention, I figured I talk about my recent vacation. Enjoy!
Hello folks! Just a chat about what life has been like after the Turkey Hill country classic and how happy I am that things are on the way back up now. Yeah, it’s been special.
Well after 17 months it’s finally happened! I ran with a group of people I don’t know. Time to chat about the Turkey Hill country classic.
Thought it would be fun to record a drill run for those of you that are unfamiliar with this term.
Today’s discussion is about the impact of COVID-19 on a planned race in May and what I will be doing instead.
Just a little submission in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day and halfway decent weather
Hey folks! Just a 23 minute banter about all things that are going well starting with the absolutely beautiful weather that has finally made it to South Central Pennsylvania. Huzzah!
Just a little helpful advice on how to prepare for the change to daylight saving time this Sunday, March 14, 2021.
Finally got a nice day to record and walk with Reagan. Reagan also apparently wanted to record today
Once again another update on my training. This time I chat about my most recent Magic Mile. And I have a little something to say about the nor’easter that’s coming to my house. Enjoy!
An update on my customized training and I hope that we will treat each other better in 2021.
Looking forward to the promise that is 2021. Hard to believe this is the fifth season of this podcast but that’s the math. Here’s wishing all you hoped for comes true in 2021…unless it’s horrible. Then you’re on your own. ;-)
This is an end of year wrap up program. Just a short discussion of what’s happening at the end of 2020 for me and my plans going into 2021.
Just a quick little submission about my current running plans and the differences between wrist and chest mounted heart rate monitors.
OK as promised here are the recordings from my vacation. I have a recording for you from Saint Augustine Florida and another one from Savannah Georgia. Enjoy!
So once again it’s time for my daylight saving time podcast. This year though it’s just a mention because I’ve said all I need to say in previous years about daylight saving time. This year I get to talk about the virtual marathon I ran yesterday on my home route.
Just a little update about some added exercise into my daily regimen in an upcoming vacation
OK folks this is a little bit of a rant of all the things that I am a bit tired of. OK maybe more than a bit.

Just a short submission about when life throws you curve balls and you’re now short on either time or mojo.
What is your reaction when a piece of running equipment has finally seen its last day? Mine was fairly unceremonious.
Just a short little segment about how my Facebook holiday has gone this week. If you need me to jump to the end let me just say my brain is happier.
Happy September everybody! Just a quick check in to talk about some information I just received from the Swamp Rabbit marathon folks.
I walk with Reagan and a discussion about the last few days of August and the beginning of the fall months.
This episode is a more in-depth explanation of my use of the Maffetone method to create more reasonable heart rate zones to train from
This show is about my flights after completing the virtual run across Tennessee my upcoming virtual races and another big name and fell to a virtual this year
Taking a late morning walk with Reagan after running 7 miles is my friend Anthony this morning
Another short program while I walk my dog. Today I discuss the impact of the Garmin shut down the past few days.
Hey folks! Well no sooner do I make a commitment to do shorter shows than I have a need for a long format show. Once my friends or my wife are able to run/walk with me again the need to do longer shows here will evaporate but for today..... Well, yeah. It sounded good coming out of my mouth at any rate. This show is rated PG-13 btw. Enjoy!
This show is about what I wear during the dog days of summer. I'm always interested in what other folks wear regarding clothing or tech to get them through a run. Since this is my show I'll start the conversation by telling what I usually wear. If you have a go to product please reach out and leave me a comment! I'd love to hear how you stay cool and comfortable during the summer months.
This is just a quick message about the new show format....or rather how I am giving up the current show format to go back to the original show format which, since I haven't been using it in a while, now can also be called the new show format!
A quick conversation about a recent lactate threshold workout I tried and the relativity of weather conditions.
Hey folks! Just a quick update. I had a slight injury and the ID of the problem is not what you might expect from a runner. On the mend now but steps have been taken (pun intended) to make sure this doesn't happen again. Enjoy!
In today's show I discuss the curious phrase "The New Normal". I also discuss my running goals and current training plan. Enjoy!
Howdy folks! Time for another update. I have some things to chat about like a new training course and upcoming races so all uplifting content. And for a bonus....the sun is actually out again! Enjoy!
Hey folks! Time for another check in. Got a lot to talk about so this episode is just short of an hour. Enjoy!
Well hello again! This is another check in from pseudo-quarantine. Glad to be outdoors for a run on a sunny afternoon. Enjoy!
Howdy folks! Well here is my coronavirus check in. Hope this finds you all well, if a bit bored and stir crazy in your homes. I decided to find the positive spin to this whole coronavirus deal as well as discuss some non virus topics. Enjoy!
Today's episode will feature a quick run through, pun intended, of my vacation week I am finishing up. The majority of this the episode will be about why I chose to try (and will now stay) with Xero Shoes. I'm not trying to sell you a pair of shoes here. I'm just passing on why I like them. Do what you want with the information, provided you first listen to the information. After that, it's your life, your feet, your choice. Enjoy!
Today I head out for a progression run and discuss my thoughts on social media and it's overuse. I manage to also get in an update on my training for the Dismal Swamp Stomp half marathon, now only 8 weeks away, while I'm at it. Enjoy!
This week I returned to a favorite running spot; the John Rudy County park. It was damp and gray but it is always a good run at John Rudy. Enjoy!
Well we are in the middle of winter and I am in the middle of a half marathon training program. It's all about keeping on, keeping on at this point. Enjoy!
It's been and underwhelming week of training. Late days at work and bitter cold have taken their toll this week. Still it's only one week and my goal race is not until the first week of April. Plenty of time to right this ship. Enjoy the show and your week!
Today's show is about the passing of the World's Greatest Drummer, Neil Peart. I also chat about my training and my love of Xero Shoes. This is also the first time I've used a season # to list a show. That having been said.....welcome to Season Four!
If you would like to send me a comment or a submission of your own you can do so here:

Just some thoughts on how to use the treadmill without getting hung up on how fast you’re going.
Went out for a four-ish mile run and just free associated in order to make a show. Chilly 18 degrees for this run. Happy first day of winter 2019-2020! The days get longer starting tomorrow!
Today I discuss my podcast's switch to Anchor.fm and my most recent half marathon using the Jeff Galloway training program on my Fenix 5 watch from Garmin.
