I was contacted by an advertising agency to partake in a brand campaign for one of their clients. This was a social media campaign where I was required to co-create an artwork with another artist. And that was set to be auctioned off at one of the most notable galleries and the money was set to go to charity. That campaign ends up going live on billboards across social media and various other forms of media. That is not what I initially agreed to. Also turns out that the gallery never confirmed interest, and there is no auction. I didn't sign a contract, and I agreed to get on this project based on the charity incentive itself. I feel gypped. What legal grounds do I have? What can I do?
My company is still working from home. And I will continue and will continue to do so for the next while. My boss says that it's mandatory to have the camera on during all Zoom calls. But to be honest, I don't feel comfortable with that, due to my shared living space. I have asked numerous times to be exempt from this. And he said that he has the rights. Is this a violation of my privacy? Is there anything I can legally do?

Liquidation: The process by which a company that has reached the end of its life is formally closed down and its assets realized (converted into cash).
End of Service Gratuity: A benefit payment for employees when they resign from their work or when their job contract ends.
Lease Agreement: A legal contract specifying the terms under which one party agrees to rent property from another party for a specified period of time.
DHA: Short for Dubai Health Authority.

We've moved into a rented villa, and the company that my landlord hired to maintain the work has not done anything at all. The main door locks don't work, amongst other things. There have been a number of messages where they admit that they're in the wrong. What is the correct course of action renters like me can take?
I went for some Botox at a place that seemed reputable. However, I began to see some terrible side effects. I went to the emergency and they said that the plastic surgeon has used a low quality Botox. What are my rights?
I seek your insight into the problem I'm facing right now, we haven't been paid our salaries for three months, we're a team of six to seven people. And recently, we got to know that our employer has fled the country. He hasn't communicated anything to us. And we got to know about this from our boss. We are a small team, and the salaries delay has been going on since the start of 2020. And so we had salary cuts in March as a result of COVID. But then it's the situation deteriorated that we're still going to office, but there's no pay. And some projects are still continuing, but we're not actually getting compensated. I'm thinking of going to the ministry but concerned that if I go to the ministry, it will affect future job prospects or will affect my position altogether in the UAE. So, what can we do?

UAE Set Out Legal Overhaul Of Personal & Family Law.

Show Notes:

Sharia Law: Is a religious law forming part of the Islamic tradition. It is derived from the religious precepts of Islam, particularly the Quran and the hadith.
Ejari: An online registration system initiated by Real Estate Regulatory Agency that requires all Dubai rental or lease contracts to be recorded at this portal. The main motive behind this system is to legalize the otherwise unpleasant relationship between landlords and tenants in Dubai.
Escrow account: An account where funds are held in trust whilst two or more parties complete a transaction. This means a trusted third party such as Escrow.com will secure the funds in a trust account. The funds will be disbursed to the merchant after they have fulfilled the escrow agreement. If the merchant fails to deliver their obligation, then the funds are returned to the buyer.

Questions:

I am writing in regards to recover my 160,000 AED from a person in Dubai. I had transferred her the amount through my bank account, so I have the proof. Also I have WhatsApp messages from her admitting that she owes me the amount. I am currently working in Bahrain and can visit Dubai anytime. This lady had given me 3 checks for the amount, which I am yet to bounce as she is constantly telling me that she has no money at the moment. Kindly tell me how should I proceed on the same.
Here is my case, I buy one bedroom apartment in Ajman with one company on five years installment, which will be finish in coming August 2021. Apartment should be handed over in Jan 2018, but still incomplete, I am paying continuously in Escrow account and now this case is under Department of Land and Real State Regulation Ajman. Is there any way to get my money back from this contractor? Please advice.
Our apartment has a gym and pool that should be properly maintained according to our lease. Gyms were permitted to open in June, ours opened in September. Pools were permitted to open in August and ours is still not open. Can I request a rent deduction from these months that I am unable to use apartment facilities that are referenced in my lease. Please let me know.

Preventive Composition Procedure "PCP": A debtor-led, court-supervised procedure available to a debtor who is i) in financial difficulties but not yet insolvent or ii) has been insolvent (under either of the tests mentioned above) for a period of less than 30 consecutive business days. The procedure aims to facilitate the rescue of a business by helping a debtor reach a settlement with its creditors.
Rescue within Bankruptcy: When a debtor is required to file for bankruptcy if it has ceased payment of due debts for over 30 consecutive business days due to financial difficulties or where the debtor’s assets are insufficient to cover due liabilities at any time.
Liquidation within Bankruptcy: A preventive composition or restructuring scheme within bankruptcy is inappropriate, not approved or terminated; or a debtor is acting in bad faith or to evade financial obligations. The aim of liquidation is to terminate the corporate existence of the company.

Questions:

My boss has been making rude advances towards me. And I recorded the conversation last week where he said some inappropriate things. My friend told me that I'm not allowed to record people without their permission. So what can I do?
I found some photographs of my wife in a compromising position with another man. It was a relationship she had in her country before she got married to me. Can I file for a divorce based on these photographs? And can I file a criminal case against her in the UAE, even though the incident took place in another country?
I have been on unpaid leave for the past six months. It was initially for three months, but it was extended for another three months until September 30th, 2020. The employer's decision was sudden, however, keeping in mind with COVID-19 I had to accept it because everyone it is going through difficult times. However, I am seven months pregnant and due to deliver on November 12th, 2020. Although my employer is yet to confirm the status of my job, I've been informed by my colleagues that my employment might be terminated. My colleagues who are on a reduced salary since March 2020 have started receiving their full salary now, but I hasn't received anything. So what can I do? What legal avenues can I pursue?

Alsarah is a singer, songwriter, bandleader and a somewhat reluctant ethnomusicologist. Born in Khartoum, Sudan, she relocated to Yemen with her family before abruptly moving to the USA, finally feeling most at home in Brooklyn, NY where she has been residing since 2004. She is a self-proclaimed practitioner of East-African Retro-Pop music. Working on various projects, she has toured both nationally and internationally.

With her main outfit, Alsarah & the Nubatones, she has released 2 full-length albums titled Silt , followed by Manara (Wonderwheel Recordings, 2014 and 2016). She has also released 1 full-length album with French electronic producer Débruit titled Aljawal (Soundways Recordings, 2013). And she was featured on the Nile Project‘s debut CD, Aswan (named in the top 5 must hear international albums by NPR, 2014).

Always trying to connect the musical dots both her full length albums with the Nubatones saw themselves reimagined and remixed by various acclaimed electronic producers in 2015’s Silt Remixed and 2017’s Manara Remixed (both via Wonderwheel Recordings). In between albums Alsarah also works with the Sudanese artist collective Refugee Club Productions on a variety of projects including the critically acclaimed documentary “Beats of the Antonov”.

They discussed his 1st trip visit to Dubai, the state of Hip Hop in the US and versus the world, his upbringing, and his new direction in inspiring the youth.

For those that don't know who Lord Finesse is, he is a DJ, producer, and rapper that was signed to Wild Pitch Records in 1989, home of other popular hip hop artists such as Gang Starr, Main Source, Chill Rob G, Percee P and O.C. In 1990, the duo released their debut album Funky Technician.[3] The album featured production from future star beat-makers DJ Premier, Diamond D and Showbiz. Soon after, Finesse formed the popular New York underground crew D.I.T.C., an acronym for "Diggin In The Crates", together with Showbiz & A.G. and Diamond D. Future members included Fat Joe, O.C., Buckwild, and Big L.

Finesse returned as a solo artist in early 1992 with his second effort, Return of the Funky Man. The album featured guest appearances from Percee Pand AG. The album's title track peaked at number 13 on the Hot Rap Singles chart. Return of the Funky Man also included a couple of songs that were produced by Finesse himself, and this would be the start of a career as a much respected hip-hop producer. In 1994 Finesse made a production appearance on The Notorious B.I.G.'s classic debut Ready to Die, on the track "Suicidal Thoughts". In 1995, he produced a big portion of Big L's debut album Lifestylez Ov Da Poor & Dangerous, including the single "M.V.P." and made an appearance on one of the album's highlight songs "Da Graveyard". He returned as an artist in 1996 with the now rare 12" single "Check The Method" and then the acclaimed album The Awakening. Finesse produced the entire album himself, and enlisted a large number of guests, including KRS-One, MC Lyte, Akinyele, Diamond D, Showbiz & A.G., O.C.and Kid Capri. The underground single "Actual Facts" featuring Sadat X, Large Professor and Grand Puba, was included as a hidden track on the album.

This week, Waleed Shah joins the crew by the Dukkan's stoop to tell his story. When Waleed describes himself,he says that he is a scientist first then business man, family man, and finally an artist. He breaks down those personalities and how when he finds an interest, he's instantly hyper-focused till mastering it.

Being a pioneer of the Arab Hip-Hop movement through is Iraqi trio Euphrates in the early 2000s, Narcy was a seminal member of a growing voice in the public sphere. He has toured the world with his first solo LP, performing on stages at major Film and Music festival from Dubai to Melbourne.

Currently teaching one of Canada's only Hip-Hop courses at Concordia University in Montreal, Narcy ethos has been to blend performance with education, media with literacy and creativity with cultural heritage

Yassin is also currently heading an international body of artists WeAreTheMedium, a family of independent creatives that come together for curation, performance, consultation and product based creation.

Working primarily with subjects that seem contradictory, eL Seed’s art reflects the reality of mankind and the world we live in today. eL Seed installed his work on public spaces, galleries and institutions on every continent. From the streets of Paris or New York, to the Favelas of Rio Di Janeiro or the slums of Cape Town, his contemporary approach aims to bring people, culture and generations together. eL Seed’s art has been shown on the walls of many cities around the world including Paris, New York, London or Melbourne, in addition to his home country Tunisia. In 2013, Condé Nast Traveler recognized him as one of the years ‘visionaries’ for advocating peaceful expression and social progress through his work. In this week's episode, Irshad brings his brother Nabeel over to join Feras at the Dukkan for the first of four Ramadan episodes. Almost 10 years ago Nabeel immigrated to the UAE and underwent a deep spiritual transformation. This was around the same time when Irshad and Feras were performing as lead MC's for the Hip Hop group ‘Diligent Thought’. Nabeel was at their first gig in fact, at the Irish Village, sporting the beginnings of his beard. Being the academic of the family Nabeel absorbed Islam and changed his entire way of thinking. THE RECIPE:

Initially, The Recipe began as a project designed to bring talented Hip Hop artists in the United Arab Emirates together to record a compilation album and help promote the culture. As the project grew and began generating regional interest, the collective began receiving invites to perform at live events. Upon completion of the mixtape the collective launched the project under the name “The Recipe” with a sold out event, the first Hip Hop show headlined by regional artists.

The Recipe would eventually evolve into an independent label acting as a vehicle to launch solo projects from members such as Young Vaughn’s “New School Cool,” and Perfect Storm’s “The Calm Before”, Kaz Money’s “The Ridicule/ The Opposition” as well as Swerte’s “The Quicktape” series. They have also released multiple mixtapes as a group.

Today, The Recipe is a group that consists of 3 MC’s working on an official studio album while continuing to perform and push the boundaries of regional hip hop achievements.

As a group or individuals, The Recipe have performed at clubs, art shows, exhibitions, festivals, charity gigs and concerts, either as the main act or in support of international artists such as: Snoop Dogg, Fat Boy Slim, Akon, Fat Joe, 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, De La Soul, Marcus Houston, Omarion, Lloyd, Prime Cuts, Foreign Beggars, Pendulum and Karl Wolf.

Hassan Hajjaj:

Born in Larache, Morocco in 1961, Hajjaj arrived in London in his teens and grew up amid the emerging club culture in the UK.

Known as the “Andy Warhol of Marrakech” Hajjaj is very much a child of the pop art generation. His work encompass many techniques and fields, from designing and producing furniture including lamps, stools, poufs made from recycled North African objects such as upturned Coca-Cola crates as stools, road signs turned into tables tops as well as custom made clothes and photography. Hajjaj is best known for designing the ‘Andy Wahloo’ bar-restaurant in Paris in 2003, for which he decked out the entire establishment in his trademark style of recycled North Africa objects. ‘Andy Wahloo’ acknowledges one of his favourite artists, Andy Warhol, but also at the same time refers to a Parisian slang term meaning ‘I have nothing’ adopted by Hajjaj as a way of describing his work.

Hajjaj’s most recent solo shows include: Hassan Hajjaj, My Rock Stars Experimental, Vol.1, Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, USA (2015); Kesh Angels, Taymour Grahne Gallery, New York, USA (2014); My Rock Stars: Volume 2, Gusford Gallery, Los Angeles, CA, USA (2014); My Rock Stars: Volume 1, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, CA, USA (2014, travelled from The Third Line, Dubai, and Virginia Commonwealth University, USA).

Hajjaj’s work has been exhibited internationally in many high profile exhibitions including London, Paris and Morocco, notably Islamic Art Now: Contemporary Art of the Middle East, LACMA, Los Angeles, USA (2015); True to Life?-New Photography from the Middle East, Birmingham of Art Gallery, Birmingham, UK (2014).

Hassan Hajjaj’s works have been acquired by Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Brooklyn Museum, New York; the Victoria and Albert Museum, London; the British Museum, London and the Farjam Collection, Dubai.

The artist lives and works between London, England and Marrakech, Morocco.

This week the guys are joined by Toofless’ eldest sister Hiba, who happens to be a poet, by the Dukkan. During which, they discussed poetry and Hip Hop, Hiba shares her story, inspirations, and experiences. Irshad and OT also got to see Toofless in a new light through his interactions with his sister, shared family stories, and the influences of literature and poetry in his family. Towards the end, Irshad and Hiba recite their favorite poems.

About Hiba Rasheed

Hiba Rasheed is a UAE-based spoken word poet of Sudanese origin. She began her poetic journey at the age of 11 when the demise of her beloved uncle impelled her to write her first poem. Later on, she found the opportunity to perform at various collegiate events during her study stint in Sudan. Hiba’s poetry touches on diverse topics but what moves her most are spirituality, introspection and injustice. Her creativity and strong linguistic skills, coupled with her passion for complex vocabulary and technique of writing to hip-hop beats, have established her as a truly unique poet. She hopes to utilize the weaponry of words to bridge the cultural and religious gap between East and West.

Hiba has performed at many events such as the international Pecha Kucha event, The Shelter launch party, Adidas/Def Jam Poetry event, Carolina Herrera 212 VIP perfume launch party, 100 Thousand Poets for Change Poetry event and Cultural Market Night; in addition to radio performances on the former “Salam” show on Dubai Eye. Her poems have been published in Gulf News, quint magazine and Sudanese newspaper, The Citizen. Her love for hip-hop music and lyrical prowess have landed her collaborations with local rappers and producers – such as the former hip-hop group Diligent Thought, The Truth, Feras “Toofless” Ibrahim, Wriggly Scott, Brunjes and Nilerhythmik – on many singles.

Sufyan Ali, known to the internet world as SufYvn is a Sudanese beat maker based in Khartoum. Born in Kuwait, he developed his passion for making music at an early age. He moved to Sudan in 2005, but it wasn't until 2007 that his musical involvement grew beyond just a passion, making beats, sampling, and contributing to the Sudanese music scene with through collaborations with local rappers. He joined the Sudanese music collective New Slang Entertainment in 2011, which led to the release of his first beat tape Pseudarhythms in January, 2013, which received multiple global accolades and featured in a list of independent films such as the American/Sudanese movie Faisal Goes West. Today, he can be found at his custom rooftop studio at his home in Khartoum creating new sounds.
