CHARP// BIO: Charp is a young DJ from the French electro scene who’s been spinning records for seven years. Initially influenced by artists such as Ricardo Villalobos, R. Hawtin, Gui Boratto, Loco Dice or Laurent Garnier, today, Charp likes to make his audience groove to a wide range of sounds, from minimal to techno. After a first Asia tour in the summer of 2008, Charp decided to put down his record bag in Shanghai for a while. He has since made a name for himself across various clubs and bars of the city – from trendy to underground – including Lounge18, Bar Rouge, G+, Logo, Dada, Anar, Shelter and more. Since 2009, Charp has taken part in large-scale events such as Blender Festival and the Abeisha Fashion Show, all the while organizing his own parties Cybernature, The unknowns, Let’s play and Deep Stuff, where he has invited well-known artists from the Shanghai scene. In 2010, Charp could be seen every week at the eclectic LOGO for Cybernature and MAO Club for his Deep Deep night, as well as every month at LOLA and SHIVA Lounge for Deep Stuff. Strengthened by these enriching experiences, Charp has now started sharing the decks with international DJs and labels when they pass by Shanghai, including Boys Noize, Paul Kalkbrenner, Felix Da Housecat, Paul Ritch, Okain, Ministry of Sound China Tour. When in France, Charp also plays at different kinds of events with DJs, such as Chris Tietjen (Cocoon recording) and Cesar Merveille (Cadenza record). Always on the lookout for new beats, sounds and artists, his music is a mix of minimalist deep house and techno. His sets have caught the attention of other Shanghai DJs, who’ve also noticed Charp’s energetic and melodious understanding of music that enables him to always stir up his audience.
