The 2022 Annual Conference session was on Thursday, June 16 to noon on Saturday, June 18 at the Hampton Convention Center. The theme was based on John 4:24 (CEB): “God is spirit, and it is necessary to worship God in spirit and truth." This short episode offers Pastor Bert’s Ash Wednesday reflection on the season of Lent.
This has been quite a week for United Methodist around the world as an extraordinary general conference, called in the hope of coming to unity on the issue of human sexuality, wound up offering what the UM News Service calls an "uncertain way forward." You can read more about that here and you can find Pastor Bert's response here. This episode is something of a prequel as it is a sermon Pastor Bert preached in the early moments of the conference and in celebration of our namesake, St. Matthias. February 24th was the day that many around the world remember and give thanks for Matthias' ministry even though we know very little about him. Pastor Bert will share about how important that God's story and our story with God must be told. The passages for this sermon are from Acts 1:12-17, 20-16 and Luke 6: 27-38.
