In this week's Canby Vibe Sports Talk podcast, sports editor Derek Wiley broke some very interesting news on air, as the OSAA announced all its winter sports championships would be canceled immediately. What ensued was a discussion amongst the Canby Herald staff about the possibilities of cancellations in the spring sports season and how long that might go on.

Canby Herald sports editor Derek Wiley had plenty to offer in this week's episode, discussing the boys basketball team's struggle against Lake Oswego the night before, as well as their prospects for post-season play. He noted the girls team finishes up its regular season on Friday against St. Mary's and has a chance to host an opening-round playoff game.
Wiley also pointed to this weekend's state wrestling tournament on Friday and Saturday at Memorial Coliseum in Portland, noting that a couple of Canby wrestlers have earned seeds to the tournament, as well as another name to keep an eye on.
Finally, the staff delved into the 2020 Canby High football schedule, which was recently released. The Cougars will play a league schedule that will finish on the road at Wilsonville. For non-league action, they will take on Dallas and perennial 5A power West Albany.
This week on Canby Vibe Sports Talk we find out which Canby swimmers are going to state. We also have district wrestling results. And basketball season is winding down as teams to make the cut for state.

Canby is sending eight first-year girls to the weekend's action at Century High School in Hillsboro, all looking to land in the top four and qualify for the state meet. Sports editor Derek Wiley offered some thoughts on what's to come and the increase in girls wrestling from a year ago.
Wiley also laid out the number of letter of intent signings that occurred Wednesday at Canby High, with a myriad of athletes looking to continue their sports careers at the college level.

Chief among those successes was the dancing talents of Rachel Hansen, a member of the CHS Dance team. Hansen was recently named to the all-state dance team, the first CHS dancer in three years to be so honored. To get there, Hansen underwent a 12-hour day of dancing that included three separate auditions over three different genres of dance.
And as it turns out, the Canby High boys and girls basketball teams have gotten off to a fast start in league play, and the swimming team and wrestling squad continue to see individual and team successes as January rolls along.
