In this episode of En Route Books and Media, Rich May talks about his book Addressing Loss of Belief in the Real Presence: What we can do as a parish and as an individual to better restore belief in and evangelize Christ’s Eucharistic Presence.
The greatest crisis in the Church today is the desacralization of our Lord in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass … contributing to loss in belief in the Real Presence. Drawing from the fruits of the USCCB three-year revival as a starting point, and recent survey data, Rich digs deeper evaluating our posture for reception of Communion, catechesis, decorum, modesty of dress, liturgical music and some simple improvements our parishes can implement. It is not enough to believe, we must act like we believe, because actions speak louder than words!

In this podcast, Dave Palmer of Guadalupe Radio interviews Roxane Salonen on her book Finding Flannery: A Travel Memoir Exploring the Mystique of Flannery O’Connor and the Legacy She Has Left Us All, co-authored with Christina Brajkovich and Karen Anne Mahoney.
Follow the journey… During the fiftieth anniversary year of the death of Flannery O’Connor, three writers from the North embarked on a pilgrimage to Milledgeville, Georgia, to uncover the mystique of their heroine, whose stories have left as many shocked as in stitches.
What formed this famed literary artist, who, though her life was cut short by lupus, became one of America’s most celebrated fiction writers, and whose stories of grace, sin, and redemption–with their misfit characters and grotesque violence–still point us to the light of truth?
Get ready to be transported into the Deep South, where the world is best taken in from a front-porch rocking chair amid peaches and magnolias, and where Flannery penned her best works in the shadow of a dairy farm. Along the way of this vivid travelogue, you’ll peer into the places that educated and shaped Flannery’s imagination and fed her devout Catholic soul.

In this episode of Ephiphany, Lynda Rozell shares with Vanessa Denha Garmo on her Ave Maria Radio program Epiphany the good news of the pre-publication of her book Return to Me: Visits to the Tabernacle. (May 13, 2024)
Return to Me: Visits to the Tabernacle discusses tabernacle images with reflections on their symbolism, encouraging devotion to Jesus in the tabernacle and drawing readers to adoration at the tabernacle outside of a formal holy hour. Organized under the themes of Nourishment, Sacrifice, Jesus, Spirit, Church, and Mission, this book helps readers deepen their devotion to Jesus in His Real Presence. In addition to reflections from Scripture and tradition, the book includes photographs of tabernacles visited by the author to help guide the reader’s prayer and meditation. In so doing, they show the reader how to use visual images as a starting point for prayer, teaching readers how to enter more fully into their personal conversations with Christ by prayerfully “reading” their own tabernacle and those they encounter in their busy lives.

Modern science tells us that our “physical” universe began in a highly ordered, but unstable, non-physical state where even the laws of physics were not fully formed. It’s almost like something spiritual became broken. Evidence for design is apparent in evolution and has baffled scientists for decades. Yet, it is a world full of evil, suffering and death. On the other hand, Scripture tells us that God created everything, and it was good. But when Lucifer and other angels fell, all hell broke loose! Literally. Can we reconcile these two accounts of creation in a way that provides deeper insights into the mysteries of both the scientific and the biblical accounts of creation? The Fallen Angel Model addresses that question by speculating on whether our evolving universe, filled with physical and moral evils, is somehow linked to the fall of the angels.

In this episode of En Route Books & Media, Dave Nemo interviews Annette Wilcox on her book Bumping the Dock: A Story of God’s Grace and an 18-Wheeler. (November 6, 2022)
I am an unlikely person to be a long-haul trucker. People comment that I look more like a librarian or an English teacher than a trucker. And I have been both. Trucking is physically a little too hard for me. Perhaps for this reason, my life as a trucker has been one of radical dependence on God. The truck runs, after all, by grace, and I’m on the road only as long as God wants me to be. I have truly experienced that God’s mercies are new every morning and are inexhaustible. He always helps! That’s what this story is about.

Cloaked in promises of freedom and empowerment, a war has threatened the lives of millions of people of all ages, but especially the young. This is the body image war.
Hollywood, the music industry, and large corporations promise happiness, pleasure, popularity, and power if we would just buy what they are selling. But their tactics are smoke and mirrors, and their promises are hollow. From photoshop to misleading advertising to the use of paid celebrities, a cocktail of lies tell us how we are supposed to look and feel about ourselves.
And so many have bought in, leading to catastrophic results: eating disorders, body obsession, plastic surgery, steroids, peer pressure, and depression. How do we combat this onslaught?
The answer is to turn to God and the teachings of his Church. In Improving Your Body Image through Catholic Teaching, Dr. John Acquaviva shows how we have allowed everyone but God to determine the value of our bodies, and how this must change.
Relying on such works as Theology of the Body, Holy Scripture, the Catechism and others, as well as on his own history as a college professor of exercise science, Dr. Acquaviva explores the troublesome world of body image in the twenty-first century and leads 20 body image activities, including:
A body image survey to see how you view your own body;
An exploration of photoshop, and how it distorts our ideals;
Discussion questions on the Bible, and how we are made in God’s image and likeness;
An examination of Hollywood movies and celebrities;
And a review of your wardrobe that will help you be content with your body type.
Help yourself and those you love escape the trappings of a culture obsessed with body image so that you can come to see the true worth of the human body and the dignity God has bestowed on this temple of his presence.

In this excerpt of Walking the Parables of Jesus, Catholic author Dcn. Bob Evans reads the first chapter of his book. Walking the Parables of Jesus is a unique treatment of Jesus’ parables. Drawing on the work of many scholars, the author takes those who seek a deeper understanding of the Christian faith on a “journey” with Jesus’ disciples, from one town to another, as Jesus shared His parables in their original order and context. What is especially new and engaging, in this book, is the application of insights from Middle Eastern Biblical Anthropology. People of Jesus’ time listened to and told stories differently than people do in Western cultures today. Through applying those insights, a fresh understanding is gained of what Jesus intended at the time He spoke, as well as what the evangelists intended in later recounting the story of Jesus sharing the parable.
