One step that we all have to take is death. There are very few that have bypassed this process and none as of late. All of our loved ones will morn the day of our passing and for a good reason. When someone is loved, especially someone that was a very loving person, that person is missed by their family and friends. Never being able to talk to them or share in our experiences again, that hurts. As Christians, we know that if they have accepted Christ as their personal Lord a Savior they are not far away and we will see them again. Jesus is the answer to peace, salvation and eternal life. As he said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me." Salvation comes to all who are willing to accept Jesus. Why anyone would reject him is beyond me. God made it so easy for us and we make it so hard. Today, do your best to get on the right track and start serving God. Ask him to show you ways to serve him and if you haven't accepted Jesus as your personal Lord and savior now is the time. We don't know what tomorrow hold but we know who does, our loving and faithful Father in Heaven. Turn to him today! Thank you for listening and be sure to tell all your friends about our podcast. There will always be people that are not in God's will following their own path. You and me have gotten off path many times ourselves and pursued our own selfish desires. When this happens, sin becomes the forefront of our community and injustice happens. We are seeing the direct result of sin in today's society. Just because we can do it doesn't mean we should. Just because it "Makes us happy" doesn't mean it's the right path to go. And happy for the moment may mean unhappy for the rest of the time. The guilt and shame that follows selfish desires is not worth a moment of happiness. Until we, as a people, and the nation turn back to God we will not truly be set free from the consequences of the sins that we have committed. Maybe it's time that we stand up and speak against the sins of immorality, racism (in all races), ungodliness, paganism, laziness, selfishness and greed. It's time to accept Jesus and turn back to God and begin to worship and praise him. This is why we are here and why he created us. Let's try to keep that as our number one goal. Potential. That's what God sees in you and has given you. It's what you do with that potential that makes all the difference in the world. Are you using the talents and skill that God has given you for his kingdom or are you using them to do what you can to benefit yourself and get your earthly desires? Maybe you're not using them at all or even realize what they are. When we concentrate on our self we have a blurred vision of the world and chase down temporary highs to help us cope with life. When we concentrate on God's will we see the world in a whole new light. Love and others is our focus instead of our selves. God is calling you to a greater purpose. He wants a personal relationship with you. He wants and desires for you to help promote his will on earth, as it is in heaven. Today ask God to show you his vision for your life. Ask him to open your eyes to the mission field he has set out for you and be ready to see your talents and gifts in a whole new light. We've all been there. Had issues with others that we just couldn't handle. Even just seeing some people who have done us wrong boil us to the core. We see red. Most of us have even said things like, "I wouldn't put him out if he was on fire." and other, nastier comments. But whatever they did to you, no matter how sever. Think about it this way, did they beat you within an inch of your life, nail you to a cross and hang you up for the whole world to watch you die? Because of our sin, that is what each and every one of us did to Christ. Being the great example that he was what did he do while he was on the cross? Besides the obvious, forgive us of our sins and even ask his father in heaven to, "Forgive them for they know not what they do." He took time to accept the thief on the cross into his kingdom and make sure that his mother was taken care of. Even in his most desperate time he was more concerned about others than he was himself. May we become as selfless and compassionate to others, especially our enemies, as Jesus was to us. Thank you for listening and be sure to tell all your friends about our podcast. It's sad that as Christians we still struggle with sin. The temptation of the flesh is something that is most powerful. And the world we live in doesn't help us with our daily struggle. They are constantly in your face with sin. Weather it's the sexual sin in the ads of TV or the sin of self fulfillment and looking out for number one, our nation has turned in to a cesspool of immorality. Once you become a Christian it doesn't make you sinless even though some believe that crazy thought. We still make mistakes and need to turn to Christ with our struggles. Becoming a Christian just makes you more aware of your sin and gives you the desire to do better. While we were lost in the world our motto may have been sex and drugs and rock and roll but when we were saved we should have turned from those evil and self centered ways. The sad thing is our old lifestyle still has a way of tempting us and pulling us back in. It's during those times when we need to go to scripture, call on Jesus and ask him to help. If you are going through struggles with your old lifestyle calling you back today be sure to pray to the one who has saved you from the devils snare and ask him to help you through it. Well, here we are at the end of another month. I hope your month went well all things considered. These are crazy times we are living in but also great times to be a Christian because we all have hope in Jesus Christ. Today we are studying about us being the salt of the earth and light of the world. Salt edifies food if you use the right amount. If you use to much it's overpowering. The same with light. If you shine the right amount it let's you see everything clearly, too much and it's blinding. Think about that when sharing Jesus. Do you turn everything in your life into a discussion of Jesus? Think about when your at work and people are discussing their sinful life styles. Do you preach to them? Maybe you say, "I'm a Christian and I don't participate in such sinful natures." or do you just smile and walk away. As in the Old Testament book Song of Solomon, there's a time for everything and there's a time to take a stand and a time to be more passive. Today, ask God to show you just how much salt to pour on people or light to shine. We want people to be drawn to Christ not turned away. Jesus healed a woman on the Sabbath knowing fully well of what the consequences were going to be. You see since Jesus is God he knew the outcome before it ever happened. Did he care what others thought? No he did not. Because the woman's heath was more important to him that what people thought about him working on the Sabbath. It also gave him a good opportunity to put the troublemakers in their place. Today he might have said, "Don't you take time to feed your dog or cat on the Sabbath?" I mean really, if the synagogue leaders knew who they were talking to I'll bet they wouldn't have questioned him. Then again, maybe they would have. The best ending to this event in Christ's life is that he healed a woman who had been sick for almost two decades and also was able to let people realize that there is no bad time to do the right thing. Today, think of someone that you can help. Maybe someone you've been putting off for a while. Make a difference in someone else's life today and show the love of Jesus through your actions. Have you ever had a spat with someone and "unfriended" them. I'm not talking about on social media I'm talking about in real life. Sometimes we have disagreements or misunderstandings that are so brutal that they break up a friendship. I can recall a few in my day. I can also recall, more than once, apologizing to mend the friendship when I thought there was no reason for me to apologize (I mean, in my eyes I'm never wrong!) That apology wasn't easy but it felt better after I did apologize and I was glad I did it. In my life there are very few, if any, people that I have shut off completely. As a matter of fact right now I can only think of one (now it's bugging you isn't it! You want to know who that one is.) There are some who still have shunned me but I will do my best to still help them and talk to them if I ever see them in public. I've mentioned it before but I'll say it again. A hug cures all. If I see people who have done me wrong in public I will run up and give them a hug. First, because I sincerely know that it never does any good to hold a grudge and second, it bugs them to death. But I'm sure Christ would do the same. Today, do your best to forgive those who have done you wrong and move on with life. It's too short to hold grudges. Death is never easy and watching loved ones die is something we will witness many times in our lives. Some are people we grew up with that we may have lost touch through the years. When we see this we might be heartbroken for a minute and even attend the calling hours. Others hit a little closer to home. Grandparents, parents and other loved ones that are in our lives all the time many times leave an empty spot in our lives. These hurt us the most and that's when we can trust in the Lord that we will some day see them again. Accepting Christ as our personal Lord and Savior is a decision each of us need to make. God made it so easy for us to receive salvation but so many people make is so hard. Why is believing that Christ rose from the dead and trusting that he will be with us and help us through all of our troubles if we only accept him so difficult for so many? Is it selfishness? Self centered thinking? Rebellion thinking? I will never understand it. At the end of the day the only person we can control is our self. Today, make sure that your ready for the day you take your last breath so the first person you see on the other side is Jesus saying, "Welcome Home." Sometimes we get frustrated with where we are at in our careers and were God has us. We pray for a new position or something that will pay more or we will enjoy more. Little do we know God's plan in our life and why we are working where we are working at the present time. Maybe God is having you work there to be a witness to someone else that needs direction. Maybe he's waiting for the right position to open up so that you will be doing his will where he wants you. And maybe, just maybe, he's cultivating our patience. Whatever the reason remember that God has you in your current circumstances for a reason. Pray, today, for direction and guidance that God will show you why you are at your current job and what direction he will have you go. He's there for you and will be your comforter though out your current situation and remember, he plans for you to prosper on this earth and in heaven. So be patient and wait on God today. How many of us would have done it? I'm guessing not too many. Put yourself in Jesus's shoes (or sandals would be more appropriate). God comes to you and says, "Here's how we can save the human race." and he tells Jesus his plan. A human sacrifice? One time for all? And who's it going to be? WOW! What a load to bear. And to imagine growing up Christ knew what he was going to have to go through. Yet he still took time to save the lost, heal the sick and even raise the dead. Even in his last days he healed a soldiers ear and cared for the thief on the cross. The selfless acts of Jesus were like no others. And the amazing thing is that he did it all just for you and me. Now that's love. Love that we will never be able to duplicate. Even the term Christian, which means Christ-like, is something that we may strive for but we will never reach. Just remember that Christ died for each and every one of us so that we may have a personal relationship with him. God has a special plan for your life. Turn to him today and turn from the evil and desires that the world puts in front of you. Get on God's track and you'll feel so much better. Silly as it sounds, after reading today's devotion about Malcolm Muggeridge trying to drown himself in the ocean then turning back I keep seeing the end of the movie The End with Burt Reynolds. Throughout the whole movie he tries to kill himself and in the end he tries to drown himself when, at that final moment, he realizes he has so much to live for and asks God for help and starts making promises to God. "If you save me I will give 50% of my earnings to the church." The comical part of the ending is the closer he gets to the shore his promises to God fade because he now feels he doesn't need God any more. He can do it on his own. While the way this plays out makes you laugh, our turning to God only during desperate times is anything but funny. We should spend time with God every day. Similar to what you and I are doing right now. God wants a relationship with us. That is why he put us here in the first place. And for us to only turn to him when we need him, that hurts him I'm sure. Have you ever had a friend or relative that only called you when they needed your help? Being a computer geek I've had that happen many times. I'd see the phone number and think, "Well, they've got a computer question for me." And sure enough, that's what it was. In 2019 we held a Men's Rally in Youngstown, Ohio. One of the speakers there was Michael Vick. Michael was known for his talent as a quarterback in the NFL but more known for his illegal dog fighting ring that he ran. If you listen to Michael's story you realize that he had that moment where he turned to God and turned all of his sins over to God and accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior. He has now done more for the animal community than most of us have and has truly repented and turned from his evil ways. What Michael did was horrible, he'll admit it. But salvation is not just for the good people (and as Jesus said, there is no one good except God himself). There are so many people that are not willing to forgive Michael for the sins that he committed. I'm sure he's glad that he doesn't need their approval. Only God knows the heart and after hearing his testimony I am convinced that the Lord has wiped away all of his sins and cleansed his soul. Michael is now a child of God. God took another murder and used him to write much of the New Testament. We know him as Paul but you read his story in the book of Acts where he started out Saul of Tarsus. If God can take a murder of Christians and use him to write his word and a dog killer and turn him to an animal activist and a great witness there is hope for us all. No matter what you have done God can clean the slate and welcome you in to his family. I hope if you are struggling today that you ask Jesus in to your life and turn all your sins over to him. Can I have your autograph? Some of you may have heard those words before, others of you are probably glad you haven't. When someone asks for your autograph they are putting you on a higher level. Almost like saying, "I want to remember you forever and this scribble you are about to give me is worth something." and they might be right. James Dean's autograph has brought in a whopping $23,320 with Bruce Lee following a close second at $15,547. But even Bruce Lee and James Dean had to know Jesus and accept him to get in to heaven. You see when it comes down to it no matter your status in life and no matter how famous you are or how much money your signature will bring in there is only one signature that is worth your life and that is Christ's signature on your heart. Jesus bought you with a price and wants a relationship with you today. If you haven't made that decision yet what are you waiting for? Life with Christ is easier because you have him to lean on. The troubles may still be there but now you will have a comforter to be there when you need him and even when you don't. Come to Jesus today! When I was growing up I remember getting toys or shirts or other things that glowed in the dark. Well, as kids go, we have the patience of....... kids really don't have patience. They want everything now and when I would get anything that glowed in the dark I wanted to see it happen now. But how was I supposed to do that? Well, until we put the addition on our house it wasn't easy, but after we did I knew right were to go. Our bathroom. You see before the addition there was a window in our bathroom but after we put the addition on there was no widow. So I would go in there, close all the doors and shut of the light and wella, my toy, shirt, etc would glow. We need the darkness, if for not other reason than to help us appreciate the light. Jesus is the light of the world. During these dark times when the world seems almost upside-down we need the light of the world to bring it back. And unlike my glow-in-the-dark items that only shed light central to it's location, Christ sheds his light throughout the world. All to Jesus, I surrender, all to him I freely give. I surrender all. One of my favorite hymns to sing and one that is so hard to do in real life. As Christians we like to pick and choose what areas God can have total control over. God, you can have my Sunday, at least up to one o'clock in the afternoon because that's when football starts. God you can have 10% of my money but I'm trying to save up for that down payment for a new car. God, you can have all of my time, unless something better comes up. When Jesus told the rich man to sell everything he had and follow him the man turned and walked away. Yet the widow threw her last coin in the collection plate. It's all where our heart is and where your priorities lie. Examine your heart today and see if you need to make some adjustments in your life. Grandchildren! When I think of the title today this is who I think of. My beautiful and rambunctious granddaughter Izzy and my awesome bundle of joy Noah. If you have grandkids you know exactly what I'm talking about. Today's title is Treasure the Moments and it's crazy but Sue and I seem to notice every little thing that our grandchildren do. Every small thing is a miracle to us and they are a blessing beyond anything we can imagine. Why is that? I remember our kids being that age but don't remember being in such awe of them. Is it because we've matured? (Not really because if you know us you know that we are still as crazy and childish as we were when we were in our 20s). I don't know what it is or why it is but our grandchildren are almost like an addiction to us. If we go a couple days without seeing them we start getting the shakes. We have to see them! We go into grandkid withdrawals. I am so thankful that we live close and not to far away from both our kids and grandchildren. I couldn't imagine them living across the country. But I'm rambling. I guess my point today is we treasure the moments a lot more with our grandchildren than we did with our children. We used to have a New Year's Eve party at our church. A place for the sober to go and ring in the new year as we worshiped and I remember one year we all sat in a big circle and shared our talents. I was playing trumpet at the time and had only been doing it for a short while. Typical of how I was and still am to a certain degree, I didn't practice the song I was going to play until the last minute. When it finally came time to play I picked up my horn, started playing and chipped a note. Was it that bad? I stopped, tears began to build up as I put the horn back to my lips and finished the song without one more error. I learned a couple valuable lessons that day. One, never stop your performance because of a mistake and two, practice until it's near perfect. I also learned not to be embarrassed because you made a mistake. Everyone does and mistakes are just going to happen. It's how you react to them that makes all the difference in the world. Making mistakes show us that we're human and that's why we need to rely on God. When you are arrogant and you think you are perfect, that is when the fall comes. God wants us to be humble and come to his throne with a heart that we need him. We can't do it alone. And no matter how great you feel today remember, without him we can do nothing. The glory of God and his Majesty are simple to find. Just wait for the sun to go down on a clear night and look up. It says that he placed every star. How wonderful is that. When we realize that God created it all and still has time for a personal relationship with us, now that's amazing. Why anyone would want to turn from such a loving God. Someone who is all knowing, ever present and yet still has time for us. Let's take it a step further, sacrificed his only begotten son for us. No greater love has any man than this, that he lay down his life for a friend. And to think that people are willing to throw their relationship with God away for their own selfish and self centered reasons just amazes me. You can have a personal relationship with God and you say, "No thanks. I'd rather do this so I feel better temporarily." or "That's OK, I'm fine on my own." Folks, if that's you, you're missing out on the whole purpose you were put on this earth in the first place. Isn't it time to stop running from God? Turn to him today and open up that relationship. What would you have done? That's the question I always ask myself when I read the story of Paul and Silas in prison. First I probably wouldn't have been singing and praising God when I was locked up in shackles just being beaten and stripped of my clothes. I would have probably been sitting there wondering, "Why me? I'm trying to do your will and this is the thanks I get?" Next comes the earthquake that shakes the shackles off and causes all of the prison doors to open (which wouldn't have happened because I wouldn't have been praising God.) After that earthquake I would have been saying to my buddy, "Let's go. God did this for a reason let's get out of here. PRAISE GOD! (Yeah, now I'm praising God!) But Paul had other ideas. To bring the guard and his whole family to Christ. Interesting that even before Paul met the jailers family he knew they would be saved because Paul told the guard that. You have to wonder if God told Paul and Silas, "Stick around, there's some work that needs done. Salvation is coming to the guard and his family and you are the ones that will help him with that." Putting our faith in man will always cause heartache and disappointment. That is why God's plan is perfect. We are not putting our faith in man but in God himself. Man will always fall and make mistakes. When the world thinks that it is understanding TRUTH when it comes to evolution they are sadly mistaken. And when we try to get evolution to fit into the Bible we are just as guilty. If God says he made everything in 6 days, it was 6 24 hour periods. We are just as foolish as the rest of the world when we try to get a big God to fit into our little ideas. The theory of evolution is flawed. The testing is inaccurate and nothing can be proven. EDUCATED GUESSES. And think about this, if you do believe in evolution then you are putting your faith in the same people that can't tell us whether eggs or red meat is good for us or not. Science has done a lot of wonderful things through the years and it should not be ignored. God gave us that knowledge for a reason. But when we use it to try to disprove the word of God that's when we start getting into trouble. It's sad that today evolution is just accepted because we will find out in the end that the earth is really just as young as the Bible said it was. Pray today for an opening of the eyes for the world to see that God is right and man is wrong and will continue to be until everyone turns to Christ. We've all made mistakes in our daily walk with Christ. Interesting to think that some things that were never considered a sin before we were Christians are now places we consider falling short. A good example of this is when we are presented an opportunity to witness for Christ and we don't take it. We have to cease every opportunity we get to share the good news and reflect Christ's love in our actions. Don't be discouraged when you miss a chance to share the gospel but ask God to give you the courage the next time the chance to share Christ presents itself. Pray everyday that God will open doors so that you can present your faith to others. In the mean time show that faith through a loving attitude and let others see Jesus in you. God grant me patience and please hurry! It's crazy how now more than ever we are a "right now" society. We want everything immediately. Technology has made us this way. I remember one time a friend and I were talking about Mr. T and I mentioned that Rocky III came out before the A-Team. He was so adamant that I was wrong that he put a wager on it. This was before the internet so I had to go to the library, find two different books that each had the date that the programs came out, copy them, and bring them back. I won the bet with a little bit of work. Today we would just speak into our phone, "Which came first Rocky III or the A-team." Ta-Da, like magic the answer immediately shows up on our phone. Today, more than ever waiting for results is frustrating. I remember having to wait till Christmas time to watch my favorite Christmas shows. Now I can watch them every day. So when God has a plan laid out for you and it takes time. We get frustrated. Maybe we're not happy with our current situation. But God's timing is perfect. Even if it takes 60 years like it did in the book of Habakkuk. But have faith, and remember Isaiah 40:31 "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." George Carlin did a routine about how we all had stuff, he used another word but we'll keep it with stuff. How we always needed more stuff and we wanted stuff that other people had and we needed to get a bigger place to live to hold all the stuff we had. Even though the comedy of it was good STUFF and even though it was a little crass it was all too true. One of the things that God gave us was desire. Many times we use this desire to seek objects that will fulfill our lives. The problem is that those things, once obtained, put us on the next mission for the next thing. Because the desire God put in our hearts will never be filled by material possessions. The only time we will be totally filled is when we seek God and his righteousness. It will also make it easier to obtain the TRUE desires of our heart as it says in Matthew 6:33, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you." Daniel Robison's Input on Today's Devotion
Stick and stone may break my bones but words will never harm me. No words have ever been more false than these. And while the first part of that childs quote is true, stick and stone can break your bones word certainly can harm you. As a matter of fact, most of us have cut off ties with some people because of the words that they have said and can still tell you today exactly what those were. So when we say words can't harm us this is far from the truth. While they may not physically harm us they cut us to the core emotionally. But words can also lift us up. Words can make us feel good. Hearing praises from a job well done or being recognized for your achievements make us feel good. So words can harm us and words can help us. Words can also heal us. James 13:10 says it this way, " Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be." As we roll in to this 4th of July weekend let's do our best to use our words to help and to heal and not harm. Ask God for wisdom as we talk to others this weekend and ask him to help you think of encouraging words to say. Thank you for listening and be sure to tell all your friends about our podcast.
