In today’s episode, I am joined by the truly amazing and super creative Amanda Cottrell. Amanda is a full time teacher, self-published author and mother of 1.
It was a truly enlightening conversation. Amanda’s vision is so beautiful and crystal clear. She was born to teach and help empower people by accessing their unique creative capacities.
Amanda’s journey began writing and illustrating Children’s Books to enhance the written curriculum and the unwritten curriculum in elementary school. Through years of experience she noticed that children need support in expressing themselves and in mindful ways.
She first set a goal for herself selling 1 book a day first and easily surpassed this and now sells over 4 books a day. By the time of the interview, she had nearly over 150 books (it ill definitely be way more by the time of this episode).
As a yoga and mindfulness enthusiast as well, Amanda uses her knowledge of yoga and mindful practices to guide her stories and get kids up and moving while or to connect to themselves on a deeper level.
Teaching is not just about guiding the students but also about learning along with them. Amanda believes in lifelong learning and is continuously taking courses in different areas of interest.

As mothers of young daughters (Charlotte being mother to Alissiah, 12 and Alayah, 18 months and Grace being a new mum to now 8 month old Eliza-Rae), we know what it is like to feel that we sometimes place on ourselves that we know all too well the realities of having an unpredictable schedule due to our little ones whilst trying to start and grow a business.

When you build your audience on a social media platform it gives you a platform to sell from, along with, the data to know what they will buy.

The race disparity, which we know has existed for centuries, has been accentuated and brought to the fore during both the pandemic and the senseless killing of George Floyd. This troubling time for the black community has afforded an opportunity for issues such as race disparities to be openly discussed and addressed across the world.
In this episode we get real and raw sharing our personal experiences of growing up as black women in predominantly white communities and our direct experiences with racism.
We also share our thoughts on the recent protests and how we feel that significant change in the world can be achieved by working together, have open discussions, educating your younger generations and taking positive action.

Richard’s obsession with business, sales, and marketing all started when I was 9 years old. The day his dad came home from work and handed him a shiny new copy of “Rich Dad, Poor Dad”.

He started his first business at the young age of 13 after convincing his dad to loan him $50 to buy good candy wholesale and he sold it to his peers at schools for a ridiculous markup.
His love for the entrepreneurial world grew and he dabbled in a few more ventures after he left college.
Richard has grasped so many new things from the different clients that he has taken on over the last decade.
He has written and delivered webinars, online courses, templates etc. He has also invented new ways to solve problems with tracking sales through complex funnels, created methods for getting training courses, webinars and sales funnels done quickly.
He also learnt how to help his clients build audiences, masterminds and automations and helped them to build massive businesses that took very little time to manage and give them financial, time and location freedom.

Welcome to the first episode of the Think.Create.Initiate (from sidehustle to startup) Podcast!
We are your hosts, Grace Nelson and Charlotte Barrett (business partners and besties) and are known in the online space as Business Startup Strategists, coaches mentors, speakers and we will soon be adding “published authors” to our string of talents. Our passion lies in helping people to start and grow their online business without needing to have any prior business experience or be tech savvy.
In this episode, we share exactly where we were at the time we decided to make a change in our lives and start our respective entrepreneurial journeys.
Charlotte can definitely say that “entrepreneurial spirit” has been running through her veins for a long while. From an early age, she always wanted to be an entrepreneur and started her first business at the age of 18 before going on to run a successful restaurant and catering company at the age of 21 for 5 years before the dreaded recession hit and boy did it hard.
Soon after Charlotte had her first daughter and then made the decision to go into the corporate world where she worked for a number of years but was still experiencing the affects “entrepreneurial itch”.
Grace’s journey is very different as she always felt she was destined to be in the corporate world and pursued a career in Law and even bagged herself an MBA to add to her list of academic achievements. Grace started her entrepreneurial journey much later on in life at the age of 28 whilst being in a really unfulfilling job and experiencing bullying in the workplace from her then line manager.
The stress of this horrendous experience badly affected Grace’s health and her auto immune condition grew significantly worse leaving her bed bound or unable to move. This is when Grace woke up to the fact that it was time for change.
Both ladies came together in 2013 to start their first business partnership in bespoke events management which was a huge success before embarking in the coaching world in 2018. They have worked with 100’s of students, entrepreneurs, micro enterprises, SMEs and large corporate organisations worldwide like “The Google Campus”. Having been in their audience’s shoes, they teach from experience and ensure their programmes and workshops are interactive and action orientated.
This podcast is for those who are ready to drop the excuses and start to take the steps forward in pursuing an entrepreneurial career. Every week, we will bring you key and relevant topics to ensure that you start off on the right foot and build the right foundations to create success in your life and business.
