Welcome to Seasons 3 Episode 6 of the Psych Life Podcast where we had the privilege of speaking with Clinical Psychologist Stephanie Carinia. Stephanie is a Trauma and Personality Specialist who was able to shed some light on how trauma is not necessarily an event, but the perception of an event. The messages or stories we form is often times more important, than the event itself.

Stephanie enlightened us with some wisdom as to how our own insecurities and past traumas can affect us in ways that cloak themselves from us. In other words, it is until we challenge our own faulty beliefs and emotional wounds, that we can achieve the level of consciousness that we desire.

Hello there Psych Lifers,

Resiliency is often defined by getting up one more time than you were knocked down whether it be mentally of physically. Well, today we had the honor and the privilege of interviewing 2012 UK Rowing Olympic Gold Medalist David Smith. David was born with a "club foot" and a un-diagnosed tumor. Despite these early medical issues David was able to find peace within the sport of Karate, and later switched to sprinting with the hopes of competing in the Olympics. In 2010 with 14 months away from the 2012 Olympic games, David was forced to undergo surgery  that left him paralyzed, for a tumor the was never diagnosed during the earlier stages of his development. David was able to overcome the odds, compete, and win a gold medal with the UK Rowing team in 2012. David is a delightful individual who values the support his family has given him throughout his journey. Throughout his life David has gone 4 surgeries for a re-occuring tumor and every time he seems to come back even stronger. Thank you David, for being an example, and providing a template for us to follow for what to do next time we get knocked down.
