Many of us are functioning in a state that our bodies are not equipped to manage – at least not long-term. So how do we shift from Survival Mode to a more productive way of existing?

Join us as we chat with Leadership Strategist and CEO of The Leadership Haven Resource Center, LLC, Tessie Watts, M.SC., as we walk through how to determine if we are in survival mode and figure out how to get into strategic mode for the next year.

The Other Side of 40 is a dedicated space to women who have made positive changes in their lives after the age of 40. Join host, April Grant, as she highlights women to help you find inspiration as you start the next chapter of your life.

Today we are joined by Nanea Hoffman, owner and founder of Sweatpants and Coffee. Listen in and find out how to follow your happiness to craft your success. If you lean into your weird, you’ll find happiness.

What makes you happy? Maybe you think you need to go on a quest and reflect on a time long ago to find it. It’s actually much simpler than that. Take a shower and off the top of your head say what makes you happy. That is how our guest, Nanea Hoffman, did it. Sweatpants and Coffee was born out of a desire to just be happy. Nanea leaned in and decided to share her happiness with the world. Did Nanea have an idea how to build a website when she started? No, but she did know that you learn by doing. Nanea set out to learn because she knew that she needed to share her experience. She knew she wasn’t the only one feeling this way and she had to connect with others who felt like she did.

Nanea reminds us of the importance of finding community. Your community can be in person or online. How do you find your community? Two things: It needs to be a place where you belong and it needs to be a place where you don’t have to audition to be a part. You don’t have to go on a mission to find out what makes you smile; you only have to be willing to be yourself completely. Be weird. Be you. Be happy.

Today we are joined by Crystal Holloway, owner of Lyfe Crystalized and host of the Life Aligned Podcast. She teaches people how to create the lives they want by clearing energetic blocks. She is a Reiki-certified practitioner and a Tarot coach who specializes in helping you find your perfect balance of emotional, mental, and spiritual health.

Imagine being purposeful about your self-care. You take the time to do what sustains you: meditate, self-care, prayer. Then life falls into place. Everything you have envisioned for your life has manifested. You have the dream job, the dream home, and the dream life. And then the self-care routines you used to rely on to sustain you, begin to fall away. You’ve got everything you ever wanted and so the meditations stop. The self-care stops. The peace you used to have is nowhere to be found.

This happened to our guest, Crystal. And after walking into a tea shop on vacation, she found her path back to restoring her emotional, physical, and emotional peace. She bought herself Tarot cards, learned about crystals and their healing powers, and became a Reiki certified practitioner. She knows just how important it is for all of us to be at peace, so she uses her training to help other people realign their energy life. This podcast is for you if you’ve found yourself off of your peaceful path and need to restore your sense of calm. Crystal gives some insightful gems to learn how Tarot readings, crystals, and Reiki will help you move to a serene and harmonized future.

The Other Side of 40 is a dedicated space to women who have made positive changes in their lives after the age of 40. Join host, April Grant, as she highlights women to help you find inspiration and support as you start the next chapter of your life.

Today we are joined by Dr. Jameson Mercier, licensed clinical social worker, who specializes in relationship therapy. He is here to share his perspective, not on the gossipy side of the Jada and Will saga, but rather on the dynamic between married couples.

Episode Notes

Marriage is normally a private thing, but a couple as famous as Jada and Will are going through the ups and downs of their marriage in a very public way. Dr. Mercier helps to walk us through the dynamics of long-term relationships. When couples are together for a long time, people grow, and sometimes this means needs, wants, and desires change. What happens when that changes? What do you do? Do you seek comfort outside? Do you avoid the pitfalls?

Dr. Mercier talks to us about the Relationship System—the dynamics of a relationship. There are multiple systems that function during a relationship and when one aspect shifts, the dynamics of all the systems can be thrown out of alignment. Take a deep breath. Dr. Mercier gives you permission to not avoid the pitfalls of relationship to have a best friend other than your partner, and to make mistakes in your relationship in order to keep the relationship real and true. Listen in to hear some sound analysis and get tips on how to operate and adjust to keep your relationship systems in sound operation.

Tune in to hear Dr. Mercier and April have a real heart to heart about the journey of marriage.

Today we are joined by E. Leese Maingot, host of Shall We Proceed Podcast. A librarian by trade, she loves reading and has created a judgment free zone for people to be open, to be honest, and to share their thoughts and opinions.

Episode Notes

E. Leese Maingot’s awakening happened after the passing of her mom. She had a life reset. Until this time, she was coasting through life. She knew how to take care of others but wasn’t taking care of herself. She decided at this time, she started to live her life through the prayers her mother had prayed for that. Part of that includes talking and created a safe space for people to unpack the issues that they tried to skirt around.

E. Leese Maingot loves to have meaningful conversations. She believes in reframing the conversation. It is not as simple as having a conversation about going to church or not eating meat; what is the real issue that you want to dive into. She is not a therapist and will let you know, but as a safe ear, she wants to get to the root of the issue. If you are carrying around stories that aren’t yours, you are creating plotlines that aren’t yours to resolve. E. Leese wants us to heal ourselves so that we can have the meaningful conversations with each other that we need to have. Join us as we have a meaningful conversation about reframing our goals, lives, and stories.

The Other Side of 40 is a dedicated space to women who have made positive changes in their lives after the age of 40. Join host April Grant, as she highlights women to help you find inspiration and support as you start the next chapter of your life.

Today we are joined by Suzette Vearnon, a life coach, relationship solutionist, and creator of Music Math Approach to Relating. She coaches women who have lost themselves in relationships and has created a program that allows you to own your power.

Episode Notes

What do you do when you realize that the things that may have served you at one point in your life, no longer work? What do you do if this awakening happens every 5 years? Is there a way to get the life you want, the job you want, and even the relationship you want?

Suzette provides instruction on what really matters in relationships. You need to learn who you are. You need to learn about your significant other. You need to be coachable. Relationships work when you know yourself and when you understand that your “blind” spots could ruin your ability to have a great relationship. Marriage is not something you should try on. You should also avoid getting married in the romance phase of your relationship. Suzette’s methods of incorporating her Music Math Approach to Relating will make it so that when you have your awakening, the changes you make will positively impact you, your choices, and your relationships.

In this week's episode, we talk to Danielle Campbell, Director of Outreach and Community Development for Black Arms Gun Club, the South Florida chapter of the National African-American Gun Association. In light of recent events, with members of the NRA wearing their guns during protests for having their rights violated without incident and, in contrast, unarmed supporters of the #BlackLivesMatter movement being tear gassed and shot with rubber bullets, I felt it important to address 2nd Amendment rights and what gun ownership actually means.
